stevehnz Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 (edited) Hell, talk about leaving my run late, but I think I can sneak in all right. I thought a BTK would be a good one for this & I've resisted all tempataion to jazz it up at all, pretty much straight out of the box (or bag as it were) I've had a few issues with the fit of the wing to the fuselage which was then made worse by the whole assembly slipping a little while clamped. A lesson for the future. For me, this is an important build as, a, its my own, no help from my youngest as my other builds since getting back to modelling have been & b, its been a chance to try a few things out that are new to me having been gleaned from lots of questions & reading of threads both on Britmodeller & other forums over the last couple of years. Some may also see this posted over at ARC, I'm cheating optimising my efforts, by entering this in both, if you know how it is with a wife that works as well & three growing boys, two of them teenagers, you'll understand why First up, the obligatory shot showing its provenance. Some initial interior & detail painting. Coming together. first coat on the underside, the blue really was awful to cover up. Edited May 28, 2011 by stevehnz
stevehnz Posted May 29, 2011 Author Posted May 29, 2011 It was a frustrating day today waiting for paint to dry, its getting colder, first fire of the winter today. I'll be going to go right down to the wire getting this done for the Airfix Ahoy build on ARC which finishes on the 1st, a bit more time for this group build. I'm back to work tomorrow so time will be limited. I got the first coat of Dark Earth on this morning, followed by a second coat this evening. It was pushing it a bit but needs must. It took two coats to cover that horrible blue, I'm hoping the Dark Green might go over the Dark Earth better, I'm still undecided whether to go with Hu30 or 116. Hu116 might be a better match for MAP Dark green but Hu30 is the kit call & its 'sposed to be from the box. paint was still wet from its second coat in this. Steve.
CliffB Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 That's fast work Steve - hope you make it for the 1st! Cliff
Robert Stuart Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 That's fast work Steve - hope you make it for the 1st! Cliff Fast going indeed, much quicker that myself btw - I thought we had until the 5th?
stevehnz Posted May 30, 2011 Author Posted May 30, 2011 Fast going indeed, much quicker that myselfbtw - I thought we had until the 5th? 5th for the Spitfire Group build on Britmodeller but 1st for the Airfix Ahoy group build on ARC, I'm entering this in both. Steve.
stevehnz Posted May 31, 2011 Author Posted May 31, 2011 (edited) Damn, slippage today, it wasn't dry enough this morning for a second coat of Dark green. Ok when I got home from work & its in the airing cupboard tonght, so hopefully OK for a coat of Future in the morning & decals etc tomorrow night. How long do I need to leave future to dry before decalling if it needs second coat? I'll probably try to bed the decals on some thinned Future. I should be comfortable to get it done for this group on Britmodeller but I'll be cutting it fine over on ARC. Heres the latest. Steve. Edited June 2, 2011 by stevehnz
stevehnz Posted June 2, 2011 Author Posted June 2, 2011 Here we are. all done & what a lot of fun its been. A few things that I'd like to have taken some more time over but for a panic build I'm happy with it. I ended up leaving off the fin flash as being more appropriate fro the resy of the markings ie early 1939 but then again, it should've had a silver underside so more in the spirit than the fact. I guess too though seeing as BT-K is a spurious marking in the spirit is near enough. I was impressed with the kit markings, they went on well with some thinned Future, had good opacity & were in good register. I was really impressed with the stance of the finished product, it looked right. Here it is. By the way, what looks like pencil lines on the left wing out from the wing root are exactly that They're not as visible for real though. Steve.
