Fifer54 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 (edited) I'm another one building the Airfix MiG-15 for my first entry in this GB, probably the North Korean machine. Like F111fan, I'm aware of the inaccuracies, but I just want an OOB build, hopefully a quick one as I have several candidates for this GB, and I don't want to build in parallel. Here are the kit's box and sprue shots. Looking forward to the start now... Edited April 23, 2011 by MadNurseGaz
Deon Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 There will never be too many Mig 15s looking forwards to your build Gaz Cheers deon
crookedmouth Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 and don't let anyone tell you it's a cr@p kit!
Fifer54 Posted March 4, 2011 Author Posted March 4, 2011 and don't let anyone tell you it's a cr@p kit! I wouldn't do that- I've built the original Airfix MiG-15!
Fifer54 Posted March 5, 2011 Author Posted March 5, 2011 I've made a start with some painting of parts, but nothing worth illustrating. Unfortunately, I've also made a silly mistake which will delay this build. I've lost the clear sprue! I think it may have been with the plastic bag (that holds the main sprues) that I've thrown out... If anyone has a spare canopy for a MiG-15, it would be gratefully received. In the meantime I'll contact Airfix... :shithappens:
Fifer54 Posted March 7, 2011 Author Posted March 7, 2011 This build may be delayed, but it hasn't stopped. Maybe I'm out of touch with modern kits, but I found the cockpit of this MiG to be delightful! 4 parts, 3 decals and it looks like this: I'll carry on until lack of clear parts stops me!
Deon Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Looking good, lets hope Airfix can get the canopy to you in good time
Fifer54 Posted March 8, 2011 Author Posted March 8, 2011 Progress! Got the airframe assembled. This kit really does just fall together, a smear of filler along the top of the fuselage and she's ready for primer...
Fifer54 Posted March 8, 2011 Author Posted March 8, 2011 Have you added any weight to the nose? Ooops! Tailprop time, I think! D'ya think anyone'll notice?
crookedmouth Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Ooops!Tailprop time, I think! D'ya think anyone'll notice? Well, you can pretend it's just taking off I s'pose
Fifer54 Posted March 21, 2011 Author Posted March 21, 2011 Painted, decalled. Still awaiting a replacement canopy from Airfix, then details adding to finish...
Metallicus Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 WoW that was quick! Great camo job! cheers Brenden
crookedmouth Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Painted, decalled. Still awaiting a replacement canopy from Airfix, then details adding to finish... Hey! You nicked my MiG! Nice brushwork...
Moofles Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 really like the choice of camo on the mig, looks really good.
Fifer54 Posted April 4, 2011 Author Posted April 4, 2011 Well, this is almost ready now. I just need the canopy. Airfix, how long will it take? The plane is otherwise ready...
Fifer54 Posted April 10, 2011 Author Posted April 10, 2011 ...and here are the pictures to prove it! As I said, just waiting for that canopy...
Fifer54 Posted April 23, 2011 Author Posted April 23, 2011 Finished!!! Thanks to a kind gift of a vacform canopy from a fellow Britmodeller (Ta very much, Col!), the North Korean MiG-15 is now complete! That completes my involvement in this GB. Thanks to the hosts for such a well-organised and fun GB, that has really brought some obscure colour schemes into our collective view. I finally soved the noseweight problem by sticking a tiny dab of Blu-Tak under the nosewheel! More pictures in the gallery!
Fifer54 Posted May 25, 2011 Author Posted May 25, 2011 As a postscript to this build, today the postman brought my replacement canopy from Airfix... I emailed them on 5th of March with the details, received an automated response then heard nothing till last week, when an apologetic eMail arrived to say my parts had been posted.. Two months and three weeks...
Deon Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 At my build rate , that would have been perfectly fine, but 11 weeks plus seems a little slow . Still well done on the MiG, you finished it despite Airfix's help
