Chuck1945 Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 I’m starting the Airfix Vintage Classics HP 42 for the Classic Airfix GB and am wondering about the exterior finish. Photos would indicate the fabric covered aft fuselage and wings were probably doped aluminum while the metal skinned fuselage was a different color, appearing darker in at least one photo I’ve found on the ‘net. Would it have been left in natural metal?
Farmer matt Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 As far as I can recall seelng they were spray painted allover. Interestingly, whilst many people have gone to great lengths to use different shades to represent the apparent tonal variations, I actually found they pretty much self-occurred on the model in most lights, using just one colour. rossm Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 I'm building one at the moment and the photos I've found seem to show a shiny metal fuselage and nacelle fronts. PM me an email address and I'll send you copies.
Chuck1945 Posted July 11, 2024 Author Posted July 11, 2024 I got as far as having to pay £15 to join using @modelldoc’s link but did copy the photos. The one from the rear is one I had seen before and that led me to think perhaps different treatments for fabric and metal surfaces. @rossm, PM sent
