Hah cheers nigel no the dioramas are easy it's working in a mental health home that's tough being up all night with disturbances. Snow is relaxing. Except for when its real like the last 4 years we have had. Pretty but deadly.

I prefer precision ice and snow I can enjoy it in the warm. Rob ;)

Mine will be too Rob. The last one had grown from a 4 foot board to over 12 feet & I realised I was just getting nowhere with it (I think my problem is I'm not dedicated enough & can't just stick to one form of modelling!!), so I scrapped it last week & am just about to start a new one on just one 4 ft scenic board with a small fiddle yard - maybe I can 'finish' that! A snowy setting is still mighty tempting....

Hey Keef you go for it mate. mine will likely not even have points just two bits of mainline I really have not got much space. That said I have another board to be built. Both will be 4ftx1ft that I know Its so easy to go over the top with the track. I really think I will go minimalist on the track and just focus on the visual feast.

It will be a dcc layout the sound adds so much more to operation and with my new zimo sound A4 which is so much fun to just go up and down and able to coast it will be fun.

I the other reason for minimalist track is I am using C&L Finescale steel track which costs more but you get better looks, bettter running, more grip and better conduction. the flexi track aint to expensive the points are at 45 quid but worth it. as the locos looks so nice running on them.

The idea of a signal box in snow with the lights on shining out onto the snow outside really appeals to me.

I cant wait to get started on this. Just need to sort out the back scene wood and then I shall get cracking on it.

On the second board I may stretch to 2 points. we will see. It wont be based on anywhere in particular or period if I can help it. Just a nice little bit of railway to enjoy whatever locos I want to run on it. I guess I could just say Its a fictitious preserved railway. The locos could therefor be anything Even if they had not been preserved in real life. there is no reason why they could not be preserved in an alternate reality or another loco in disguise or a new build even.

Much as I would like to model an accurate location especially one I remember from childhood Wigan springs branch. Right now I just want to have fun and enjoy whatever.

I am like a child excited at the moment by a new railway to play with it feels like Christmas I guess its all the snow.

I could just go a mince pie and a glass of brandy right now. ,mmm

Nice work Rob! Have you got an O gauge figure that you could use to maybe just put some footprints in the snow disappearing off scene from the Landy? Could be a nice finishing touch?

This is 00 Gauge. But I will have ago. The landy is not fixed. It can be taken off and repositioned.

Glad you like it.

Cheers Rob

D'oh - I missed an O out....!!

Ah damn and there for a second I thought I had fooled you into thinking it was 0 gauge lol. I have posted this In RFI too I thought It would be cool to put it there for armour fans to see. :)

I am puzzled though, is the snowman to be used else where?

Hi Nigel yep the snowman is to be used on a second dio. I have been painting up a shed to put with him and my mrs shaped the other base for me while is was adding the snow to this one. She wanted to help with the foam sanding as it looked fun.

She also added the PVA newspaper strips.

Tomorrow I shall paint the base and then start doing the next dio. I am not sure what to do for it. So far the idea is contoured base with a little shed and a snowman. not sure what else I have to put with it but I will do something. Possibly another car and a stack of coal next to the shed and maybe a hedge made from foam and covered with flock foam might be nice. Maybe even a christmas tree of sorts.

I Have got some A4 pacific locos to paint and rename and a vulcan or too to build to many things to build not enough time as usual eh.

Cheers Rob

That sounds good. It would be brilliant if you could make a video or U-tube thing with your snowman and the Gabrielle Aplin song "The Power of Love".

You did Rob - I was joking about the missed O...!! I did think that Landy was a 1/43 scale one & the snow effect, & your photos of it, does look that convincing!

Well That is cool that it managed to make you think that. I am really please with the photos they are taken on my iphone and make it really easy to get great photos.

I am thinking of doing some youtube videos on this actually. I have a radio control tiger tank. It would be nice to make a woodland course that you can drive it around and have some loose Precision Ice and Snow to drive her through. should look nice on video.

Cheers all Rob

Crickey, no, I'm just enjoying yours. As I think I said long ago, this is something to file in the future possibilities folder...

Ah I remember. I just thought I would ask as I would love to see what others do with this stuff. I have many things filed under that header. I sometimes wonder if I will achieve half of what I dream I want to do. I have about 50 kits I want to build I wonder if I will do it.

50? I've got well over 500 - I know I won't do it....!!! (I probably won't get even 50 of them done either, I look on them as an 'investment'!! :D )

Precision are listed as being at Telford in November, so I hope to pick some of the stuff up then to have a play with!

Great Keef I look forward to seeing what you do with it if you are going to share it with us that is. Got any ideas what your going to do ?

I really would like to have ago at a Stalingrad scene. I could watch Enemy at the Gates now.. It has got the lovely Rachel weisz in it.

500 kits !!! WOW. That is an investment.. I thought I was in trouble 50 suddenly seems easy. You got many frog kits ?

Currently I am late night modelling again. this is what I am up to at the moment Painting A4 pacific locos and modding them. Another ongoing thread..

Morning Rob. No, only have a few Frog kits left. I've been accumulating kits for over 30 years now, & disposing of quite a few over the last couple of years, so as most of the Frog's have been superceded by more modern kits I've been getting rid of them. Comes a time when you realise that it's just getting daft having 10 times as many kits as you can ever possibly build. And you run out of room too....!!

As to the snowy stuff, I did a dio. of a Swedish S Tank for one of our club comps last year & was never happy with the snow on it (I used some of the 'snow' stuff I mentioned earlier, can't remember the maker now. but I have a suspicion it was only bicarb of soda!), so would like to try & improve that first. And I still have that snow covered micro layout idea nagging at me...!!
