  1. Relatively recently (rather months than years ago) somewhere on the web I saw pictures of the USMC M60A3 from the 1991 Gulf War. But it was not an ERA brick-hung one, but an old "naked" example in the Marines desert livery. The description stated that five (?) such tanks (even some serials were given) were transferred from the 197th US Army brigade to the USMC in Saudi Arabia in 1990. "Of course", I didn't copy the photo, and I didn't even note the source, and now I can't find it anywhere. Maybe some of you have also come across such a copy of the Desert Storm M60? Cheers Michael Update: on Ebay and Amazon you can buy a Chinese diecast M60A3 in desert camouflage with black inverted Vs on the turret sides. But this one is still serialled US Army 983116. Can such a toy (completely accidentally and not intentionally) be credible? Do the US Army and USMC tanks have a common numbering, or (like airplanes) completely separate. If handed over to the Marine Corps, would the M60A3 retain its original Army serial or would it get a brand new one? Is there a list available of M60 serial numbers for the USMC units involved in the Gulf War somewhere?
  2. Hey all, Here's my M60 Patton from Dragon. I picked this kit up from TANKFEST 2017, i think? It was a few years back now... I built the kit straight away and quite nearly finished it but the DS Tracks drove me off, so it sat in a dark corner of my desk for a few years... Until now! I got sick of looking at it so I took a deep breath and painted up the tracks, () and fitted them, then went ahead and plugged a few antennae in. The kits out of the box with all of its beautiful inaccuracies, such as the oversized DS Mantlet. The guard infront of the machine gun cupola was way overize too but I convieniently 'lost' that part so instead this vehicles backstory is that it had a bit of an argument with a tree somewhere in Germany... I painted her using Tamiya acrylics, namely XF-62 Olive Drab, which is ordinarily a bit dark for me but seems to work well on 50s/60s US armour (or should that be armor? 😂). Weathering was achieved through various uses of oil paints thinned to be used as washes or dot filters. I also used some airbrush effects on the exhaust. Finally, just to add, the less said about the stowage rack at the back, the better. It was incredibly flashy and fragile so as you can imagine cleanup was complicated to say the least. In the end I gave up and milliput came to the rescue and I created some 'canvas' covers which hid a lot of the absymal basket. Additional stowage was from Tamiya. Thanks for looking! Also, apologies for the questionable lighting, I've recently invested in new photobox and I'm still finessing the lighting kit supplied. Sam
  3. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT SIGNED UP. THE DATES ARE 30th MARCH 2019 - 30TH JUNE 2019. Ok It covers the lineage from the M26 Persing/M46 Patton as in this Tamiya. If you're planning on doing a late war sherman in that group build you could do a M26 Pershing as a companion. Or if your planning on doing a Korean war sherman like the New Tamiya with a Tiger or Devil face like this. You could do an M46 Patton as a companion piece. They also wore the tiger face art. As shown in this Photograph. Or build any versions thru to the most modern versions of the M60 used by the Israelis such as this Magach made by Academy It covers all offshoots and adaptations in the Patton Family tree of Armor. Hope to see you look into it, even happier if you decide to join. Have a great modeling day Dennis * any photographs used are strictly information use. All rights belong to original owners.
  4. Hi, Here I start new kit build - Marines M60A1 from the Gulf War. This is the ultimate US version of this tank with RISE (Reliability Improvements for Selected Equipment) improvement pack. In particular, it eliminated large IR projector over the barrel, replacing that with passive "starlight" scopes for a driver, gunner and commander. Another change was the installation of Continental AVDS-1790-2C engine boosting engine power. Smoke discharges were added too. This model with represent vehicle C-12 from 1st Platoon, Charlie Company, 3rd Tank Battalion USMC, Regimental Task Force Ripper during the operation Desert Storm in 1991. At the deployment to the Gulf region tanks were retrofitted with explosive reactive armour to increase crew protection. I have chosen this particular vehicle due to its camouflage features. Most of the tanks were repainted in whole to sand colour, but some of them retained their original MERDC Gray Desert camouflage, with all added ERA panels painted in sand colour. I think it may be quite striking visually. Therefore build will have 2 main parts. First build the tank and paint it in MERDC Gray desert, then add separately painted ERA panels with all bracing needed. First impressions looking at the kit are very good. There's very nicely represented cast texture on the hull and turret. The tank has classic yet intriguing shape with asymmetric turret - real Cold War warrior. I skip inbox presentation as it can be elsewhere online. I have started a build by connecting a bottom and top hull. However manual suggest making running gear and underside equipment first, I decided to change an order as fitting hull requires applying some pressure which could damage some delicate parts. After drilling all attachment holes and installing driver's periscopes and obviously careful cleaning of the parts all fit nicely. I couldn't resist not to do the same with a turret 😎 Now I will add all running gear and rest of the hull details.
  5. Hi, this is my first time I publish the pictures of a finished model on this forum, so I would be happy to get some advice how to make the pictures properly as those are the first ones I ever made like that. So to start: The kit is the last re-release of the Revell kit of the M60a3. The fit of the kit was pretty good except the tracks and running gear which was pretty hard to assemble as the instructions are not clear IMHO at some parts. Aswell is are the painting scheme instructions a bit of a inconsistent as the the camouflage in one is neat and tidy painting in three different greys as the other is made out of four types of criss-crossed lines and dots which is a very hard to see clearly what to paint where. I built a M60a3 which took part in REFORGER`85 because I liked the the orange identification marks and I had this photo of it (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:M60A3_Panzer.jpg) and I like building vehicles I have references pictures of (ok; I just favour building them;I don`t exclusively do so). I haven`t weathered it yet and I also intend to build a little diorama/vignette for it. So, here are the pics (finally ) IMG_0187 by nivelnnamkcurts, auf Flickr IMG_0188 by nivelnnamkcurts, auf Flickr IMG_0189 by nivelnnamkcurts, auf Flickr IMG_0190 by nivelnnamkcurts, auf Flickr IMG_0195 by nivelnnamkcurts, auf Flickr Comparsion to its predecessor, a M48 made from the Italeri/esci kit ... IMG_0196 by nivelnnamkcurts, auf Flickr ... and an 1/72 esci/italeri figure. BTW: I think I messed up a bit with the decals IMHO
  6. Hi, I have recently finished building my Revell 1/72 M60 tank and just wanted to start painting but i dont know how. Heres the problem: I wanted to paint it as a vehicle of Reforger 85` as it is depicted on the boxart (http://www.revell.de/fileadmin/import/images/bau/03140_%23BAU_M60_A3_2015.PDF first painting scheme; Boxart: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234987966-m60-a3-172-revell/) as I like the orange identification marks and i have a picture of it (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6d/M60A3_Panzer.jpg ) though in the instruction it is supposed to be a four-tone camo scheme (while it isn´t MERDC summer verdant (http://www.cybermodeler.com/armor/m60/m60_profile01.shtml) as the colors nor the scheme are matching, the boxart shows mostlikely a standart NATO three-tone camo and the original pictures isn`t much help either so: How should I paint it? Thank you in advance Levin
