  1. This was a fun kit and I enjoyed building it. Some different plumage than the usual US, which I also like to do--different plumage, that is. Paints were all Vallejo and Vallejo Air...oil paint pinwash...Decals are from the superb Xtradecal Sheet for 19 Squadron. This is the fifth 19 Sq aircraft I have built so far. Some aircraft are in the queue for assorted GB this year and I will be building others along the way. Next up is a Phantom, the last aircraft to be officially used by 19 Sq before they disbanded in 1992 and became a reserve unit. Don't worry folks...I have at least 2 Spitfires lined up... Here's some Mustang pics... --John
  2. Another 19 Squadron build from me, ticking the boxes on my 19 Sq. Project. This time a nice little Mustang Mk. III from 1944. Decals are from the excellent Xtradecal sheet for 19 Squadron. I'll be using the KP kit for this, so I am sure it will come together with some sort of resemblance to the aircraft. I recall building one in Swiss markings and feeling good about it. Here's the box art... Decal sheet and profile...yes...I will eventually be building all that are on the sheet! The sprue looks nice. Some decent detail. No flash. And off I go. I have some time before the next GB begins for me in 2022 (Matchbox, January 8, wherein I will be building yet another 19 Sq aircraft!) --John
  3. Here's my next...KP Model's Piper L-18C, 100th Sq. IAF, Dov airfield, 1965. It looks alright. there are a couple of odd bits in the instructions, but I'll get the those later. Here's the box art... Back... My choice of profiles... And the sprue... Let me finish up another build (Sopwith Tripe) before I start this one. Next week I'll dig in, I think. --John
  4. Here's is my first contribution, KP's 1/72nd scale Piper L-4, RAAF, New Guinea, 1943. Here's the box top! See you all soon! --John
  5. Hello everybody... Id like to present my KP Spitfire Mk.Vb in the Markings of R.S.Tuck. The kit was a gift from @Procopius awhile back and was saved for the Spitfire Group build. This is the first of four Spitfires I am building for the build. It represents his plane on or about the day of Tuck’s last mission. A quote from Wiki about that. “Tuck's last mission of the war occurred. On 28 January 1942, while on a low-level fighter sweep "Rhubarb" mission[23] over northern France, his Spitfire was hit by enemy ground-based flak near Boulogne and he was forced to crash land.” I do hope it meets with your approval. A link to the build if you are curious and interested. A picture with his squadron mates, The Dicer is an Eduard Mk.IXc late kit and is also finished. I shall have an RFI shortly for it. The other two are Eduard Mk.VIII’s all of course are 1/72. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments, and or add thoughts. Dennis
  6. Here's my latest completion, started just before lockdown but finished the other day. It's the KP Vc "Aces" boxing, but the kit comes with all the parts for "going troppo" so I added a bomb from Eduard spares and the decals from the old Airfix Vc to build the SAAF 4-cannon version. As always, the KP (like the related AZ) model went together fine if not click-together like Eduard. I painted in Gunze upper surfaces with xtracrylics for the Azure Blue (which seems completely different in my photos to on the model!). I also used some Xtracrylics Dark Earth on the cannon covers, but the contrast wasn't as strong as I hoped or I've achieved before - on the famous line astern photo of the squadron you can see the cannon covers are clearly much darker than the rest of the dark camouflage areas. I also dulled down the whole plane with a Humbrol enamel sand wash to give a dusty desert feel. That worked but I had a bit of a trauma with the rear view mirror, in the end it was fixed with an Eduard spare but the repairs cascaded into having to rub down and polish the canopy and touch up the fuselage roundels. I also had to respray the front areas of the fuselage several times after the exhaust ended up looking like a catastrophic oil leak. It's still been run a lot richer than I'd like to see, perhaps the fitter will be on a charge? As a result of fixing these cock-ups (none the fault of the kit) the canopy has a weird crazed area in certain lights or angles, hopefully disguised in my pictures! So its not my best effort to date but there's still fifty or so Spitfires in the stash; so each mistake can lead us to a higher plane of enlightenment, perhaps... Here's my version of the famous head on shot, though not in flight and without the pilot gurning at the camera! As you can see the contrast on the cannon covers is a bit lacking, maybe as they're a bit glossier than the rest of the airframe in the original photo. I also thought a DAF fighter would avoid the annoyance of the usual yellow leading edge stripes but instead they wrapped the Azure Blue round, admittedly slightly easier to achieve. The original photo shows lighter tape over the redundant 303 ports so these are some painted decals. They definitely aren't red in the original, but whether dirty white, band-aid pink or a poor match of blue is probably lost to history now. Back to the Eduard VIII in the STGB now... Cheers Will
