  1. So this little beauty arrived in the post this morning, being an ex Boscombe Down guy there was only one choice about which scheme it'll be! Annoyingly there's errors in the scheme. The decals are for XX830 but 830 never had the NDT stripes on the tail, also they were yellow not white although I've seen photos where the underside ones look like chromate primer. then there's the box showing two fuel tanks then only suppling one. Anything else I should keep an eye out for? Cheers, Chris
  2. The Short SB5 was built to test the wing shape design for the EE Lightning and could be configured for three different angles of sweep, it could also be fitted with a T-tailed rear fuselage. The real aircraft is now preserved at the RAF Museum Cosford. This is the Maintrack vacform with home made decals for it's later life as Tester 28 from the Empire Test Pilots School. Steve
  3. Built from the old Airfix kit as I needed a Sikorsky rather than Westland Sea King for this very early aircraft as used by ETPS for many years. Scratchbuilt instrumentation boom and Airdecal markings. Steve
  4. Ancient Airfix Scout with scratchbuilt vacform side blisters and extra engine details. ETPS markings from a ModelArt decal sheet. Steve
  5. Yak-52 as used by ETPS built from the Amodel kit and home made decals. Steve
  6. The ancient Airfix Chipmunk straight from the box except for removing the rivets, with home made ETPS decals for "Tester 3" Steve
  7. Built from the Airfix AH1 with modified rotor blades, scratchbuilt intake guards, winch and instrumentation boom. ETPS markings from Airdecal. Steve
  8. Hello, just a placeholder for my build which will start a bit later. I have the 1/72 Italeri kit and the Flying Colors Aerodecals tiny sheet for the ETPS logo, hope the box decals will suffice for the standard colour scheme.
  9. Airfix Tornado F3 with Xtradecal ETPS decals. Thanks for looking. Steve
  10. I had this old airfix kit of the hunter hanging around and decied that as the decals were out of register I would cobble togeather the markings for the Raspberry ripple aircraft XE601. This is not a faithfull reproduction of the aircraft there large gun casing mouldings are still there and I have not modified the kit in any way except to put in a white metal mk4 martin baker seat that I found in the kit. this is the first time I have used acrylics and enamals on the same kit and it seems to have worked ok. Normal 5ft viewing distance please Many thanks for looking Rodders
  11. Got this kit as I wanted to do the Empire Test Pilots School scheme it comes with. Trumpeter seem to have copied the profile in Warpaint 23 on the Gannet as it shows a very plain font for the ETPS lettering on the nose, so I printed my own decals in the correct font. Also the T2/T5 has a deeper fairing on the left side under the cockpit which Trumpeter have missed, so that was extended with some filler. Steve
  12. The UK Empire Test Pilot School uses a single SAAB Gripen apparently to train pilots.... The airplane has a blue vertical stabilizer, with a gold griffin or lion above the initials ETPS... Can anyone tell me if the symbol represents the type of airplane... or the school...? Thanks....
  13. My first 2 completions of 2013 are two SAAB Gripens, a JAS39B and JAS39C to add to my existing JAS39A. Unusually for me, they have been built together in parallel out of some strange idea that it would be easier (it wasn't). Both kits are 1/72 Italeri built out the box, but with markings and weapons loads modified and some very minor tweaks. The ETPS markings for the JAS39B came from Flying Colours Aerodecals, the Taurus and IRIS-T missiles for the JAS39C air to ground weapons load from the Revell Typhoon kit. The final kit of the 3 is an old Airfix JAS39A (essentially the same kit), built in 2006 and with an air defence load-out. And the "fleet" once again.................... FredT
