  1. Classic! Thanks for all your suggestions on the unholy marriage of decals and masking tape - will update later this evening! Cheers, Dermot
  2. Many thanks Phil and will give that a shot later. If it doesn't work, lesson learned I guess.. Yep, decals got a coat of Future on top to protect them from the oil wash. Dermot
  3. Morning everyone, Anyone got miracle cures for rescuing decals? After decaling my Tornado and protecting them with a coat of Future, I applied an oil wash - so far, no problem and everything dried ok. But when I then used a thin strip of Blue 3M masking tape to hold the canopy in place while it was gluing, you can guess the rest - no more decals. So right now, the beautiful nose art is on the sticky side of the tape in one piece; is there anyway of removing it? Could I soak it or is it now toast? :shithappens: Any advice would be hugely welcomed.. Thanks in advance, Dermot
  4. Steve, Phil thanks for the advice and update pics will be posted tomorrow! Cheers, Dermot
  5. Thud........jaw hits floor. Wowsers Andy, that's some decal job!
  6. Love that scheme Phil, great work
  7. Very black, very shiny, very cool Phil!
  8. Nice progress there Paul! PM inbound too! Cheers, Dermot
  9. Hi everyone and really inspiring work around these parts - it keeps me motivated! Here's a quick update (and question) on this build. Have tidied up the nose and glare panel and painted some other small parts like the wing gloves and ordinance. Must be the light or my crappy camera but she doesn't look as sandy today. Anyway, my question is (and sorry for being a numpty) are my next steps in this order? Future Wash Decals Weathering Matt coat Thanks for looking and big thanks in advance. Dermot
  10. Brush painting Tamiya acrylics - BIG respect Seve and excellent results. Look forward to more pics. Dermot
  11. Just a brief update before a week off with the family.. Quick coat of Halfords plastic primer (works nice) Unfortunately I'm still beholden to the hairy sticks so this is brush painted with Revell's Desert Sand. Hmmmmmm.....The photo/light isn't great on it and to me it looks a little too sandy as opposed to Desert Pink on some of those Gulf builds here. Nose radome and anti glare panel will be tidied up. Thoughts anyone? I couldn't be arsed stripping it back at this stage as I'll never make the deadline and I'm just hoping that washes, decals and weathering will tone it back a bit. Or am I fooling myself? Enjoy your modelling and maybe the week off will improve my mood! As always, thanks for reading. Dermot
  12. All those lovely 'Cats in 5 months......if there is a religion of the Tomcat build, surely Andy Mullen is GOD!!!
  13. You know how it is - working on a Tomcat (this is Revell's F-14D) and then another STGB comes along.. Please count me in! (kit to be decided soon) Cheers, Dermot
  14. David, this is going to look very interesting! Will it be a Tynado?! All the best, Dermot
  15. Hey everyone - quick update on my Tornado. Added the intakes (terrible fit those) and then filled and sanded.....lots. And took a leaf out of Phil's build (at least I think it was Phil!) and used foil to fill the gaps in the wing gloves. Before.. After.. Hopefully off for primer coat this weekend. Thanks for reading and enjoy your modelling! Best wishes, Dermot
  16. PM inbound! Thanks,
  17. Nice work so far Tim and the weathering is looking good - plus it will all come together once you've got decals, wash etc applied. Could I shoot you a PM on those decals also? Keep up the good work! Cheers, Dermot
  18. Fair play to you Phil, will follow these builds for sure. Loving that blue plastic too...reminds me of those Matchbox days. All the best, Dermot
  19. This is looking very tasty Phil.....makes me want to build that Black Hawk in my stash! (that's an RAF Hawk in black BTW, not the egg-beating Blackhawk) Cheers, Dermot
  20. Hi Tornado-ers and some great work underway here - finally got around to doing some myself...and posting it! First pic is the 2 fuselage halves, with the "loaves of bread" cockpit panels. I added some weight to the nose and decided to glue the working swing mechanism, even though it's a great little feature on the kit. The seats are poorly detailed and lacking in size but am going OOB on this build so just added some belts to them from masking tape. And here's the end result. Will require some sanding on the sides/nose to remove the upper/lower seam. And since the wings now leave a mighty gap behind, have a plan in mind for that. Thanks for looking and enjoy your modelling! Dermot
  21. Could help you out with 1/72 if that's any good....
  22. Looking forward to this one Paul! Do you know is that Modeldecal sheet still widely available? I've another Tonka in the stash (but the decals are shot) which I'd like to build someday as a Gulf War bird.... Cheers in advance. Dermot
  23. Look forward to seeing your pics Phil and must check out your Harrier build too - flirted with the idea of that GB myself but too much on the bench right now! Dermot
