  1. Thanks for the appreciation of my work. About the glue, your question actually makes sense - gluing resin solvent has not much of an effect... One thing that can help is to roughen the surface. And you need more patience because, according to my experience, the "instant" doesn't fix resin parts instantly. I use the following one and I'm quite satisfied with its results: https://shop.swiss-composite.ch/pi.php/Klebstoffe/Sekundenkleber/MD-Glue-Xtreme-2-Cyanacrylatkleber-mittelviskos.html I wish a nice weekend - and keep on gluing!
  2. Yes, I use a semi-viscose, solvent-free cyanacrylat superglue. However, for larger models I would recommend one with sovent.
  3. I've done some more detailded work with 0.01 and 0.03mm rigging and the Stars and Strips are hoisted up now - in the case that you can see the flag;)
  4. To be honest, doing my pocket Rodney made my eyes aging for years... Well, using a smart phone by night gives it the rest! Seriously, since I'm in my early forties loosing eye-sight is just a law of nature. It's what my optician said. 🥲 If you change your mind and want to imagine how I built her, you can check out: ...looking forward to see your chef d'oeuvre finished!
  5. I would say, one fine day, our two beautiful ladies should meet.
  6. Yes: rigging and weathering - superb! A joy to look at your Prinz Eugen...
  7. maybe, you want to check out that one: http://www.modelshipgallery.com/gallery/ca/ca-26/700-js/js-index.html
  8. I think this pre-war August 1941 scheme is quite interesting: white observations decks and a nice fake bow wave: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northampton-Klasse#/media/Datei:USS_Northampton_(CA-26)_at_Brisbane_on_5_August_1941_(NH_94596).jpg
  9. True, it can be verrrrrry frustrating!!! Especially the super thin coiling around rubber threads... However, it has a tremendous effect on the appearance of the model at large, isn't it?
  10. SSModel in 1/350 - must be a hellish heaven of detals!? I work with superglue, however it doesn't work too well with the very hard resin my model is made from because the glue doesn't interact with the material in a chemical way. As the parts of my model are very small it's not that kind of a problem. However, I can imagine that larger 1/350 parts won't stick together so easily - a clear disadvantage of resin compared with plastic. With plastic glue on resin I've no experience... Curious about the pictures of your Pensacola - have you already started with a review?
  11. Slowly, slowly - step by step... I've done some rigging last weekend. Not without breaking off the main radar antenna. Actually, some of the work was done by my wife. Well, it's my fault to deploy my fleet within the range of her destruction potential. It's all just about a certain amount of patience and work in progress - modelmaking, and being married. Loving both for sure...
  12. I think the side about the colors schemes recommended by @beefy66 is superb. I also use these two sides: https://www.sovereignhobbies.co.uk/pages/united-states-navy-colour-scheme https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_ship_camouflage_measures_of_the_United_States_Navy Most important is the supposed date you want to depict your model from. Why are you interested in the USS Northampton? Any particular action in the ships life? In my case, I'm interested in her attempt to save the USS Hornet. If not, I would choose the color pattern you think is most beautiful. And in that case I would go with a bright wooden deck because it shows more contrasts.
  13. ...and the SSModel in front of Revells hulk of the USS Hornet - I hope, in the future, they will somehow fit to each other:
  14. Its weekend and time to work a little bit on our models, isn't it?! First, a size comparison after adding some salty crust and rusty dust to the ships coating:
  15. Dear Tim As a big 1/1200 scale fan, I fell in love with your Bismarck model from first sight: The painting and decals are done very even and precise and your extra details invite to explore the ship with much patience and couriosity... Much appreciation and respect for your work of fine art! Actually, my miniscale career started with Revell's Bismarck-version. Doing research on other ships of Bismarcks short, however legendary life I came across with the Airfix "Sink the Bismarck"-series, which indeed represents a more accurate version of the German battle waggon. However, until now not understandable to me: why is there no HMS Rodney to the kit included?! Is she so ugly that her role as the main opponent of Bismarck had to be forgotten? 🧐 I think she is a pretty gun loaded tanker, so I had to build her too: https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235125683-hms-rodney-slayer-of-the-bismarck-11200-shapeways-scratch-built/#comment-4686252. Let's make a group build one day! Mast- und Schotbruch, Leo
  16. Now the boats crane, the side boats, and some further details are added and a first layer of weathering applied:
  17. To be fair towards SSModels: i checked the details on main turrets of the War Thunder designs and I think that the SSModels-version is too detailed for being a copy:
  18. ...I think in 1/700 you don't need 3D-models from SSModel anyway - isn't Flyhawk producing enough kits in superb quality? Regarding the USS Northampton: it is possible that it is a copy from a game's design too - however, it is depicting the ship quite accurate how it did look like in 1941. Only the funnels do not represent excactly the shorter versions of 1942 I'm trying to replicate. I guess there are some compromises you always have to make, isnt it?
  19. Here comes the ship out of the airbrush-box: The crane and the tenders are yet missing, some weathering, final water effects and the rigging - and we are almost done... Well, maybe some crew members too would be nice. And the laundry...
  20. Sadly, my experience with ordering the SSModels from China by ebay so far is not too good: one parcel never arrived and the seller and delivery service did never answer to my request. The three hulls of another seller were all warped. At least that seller responded immediately and replaced them for free - only that the new hulls came without the super detailed anchor chains... Another questionable detail: the WW1 battleship SMS König comes with enlarged funnel, a radar systems from 1941 and SK C/33 heavy AA-guns from 1933 (as seen on ships of the Kriegsmarine in WW2): https://www.ebay.ca/itm/166140642009?hash=item26aec102d9:g:nAsAAOSwSNRk-r-o ...what really makes no sense as the ship was scuttled in 1919 at Scapa Flow. And there is no remark on the product which says that it is a "what if"-model. I can imagine that the SSModel-designers even are not aware of their mistake. Honestly, it looks like they simply fed their computers with date from a "world of warships"-model: https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/konig-d38da12b95324fc5bfbc931a47c80741 However, as they produce the most detailed ships (some parts are really insane) in that scale, there is not much of an alternative...
  21. As seen on this picture, the build-up is almost finished. Some parts (radar antennas, range finders, railing) are enhanced by PE elements from Toms Modelworks - and yes, the glueing together on a flyspeck scale was quite nerve-racking. 😅 The carley floats (from shapeways) on the ship's side are added from my side to the SSModel as well. The modelled water surface is covered by tape - so, everything is ready for the priming in a dark 1942 navy blue-gray by airbrush:
  22. Not to add much - just really a painting style of its own!
  23. Toutes mes félicitations de l'outre-Sarine sur ce forum internet anglais! I do enjoy especially the view along the flight deck: looks very realistic with the braking marks and crowded with all that equipment...
