  1. Bit brassed off today, sorry, had to be said. This one goes just aft of the bridge. And these are the bridge components. There are more to fit, but I have to rest the old eyes. I think, I might do the painting here, and then add some wooden deck to the planked areas. Jon
  2. TWO updates in ONE day. Here's most of the bits and bobs. And just for fun, I've dry fitted the funnels. Be a while before they go on with any permanence, 'cos I doubt they'd survive. Jon
  3. Can't think of better company to be doomed with. Jon
  4. So, just for @robgizlu (sorry it's late, will try to do better) here is todays update, I've painted the superstructure parts. There are some more, but not shown here. And I have gone a bit OOT with the windows (glazed) and I had a thought (very dangerous) with the folded down window covers. My thinking went so...... "The inside of this cabin (?) is probably white, as per most internal walls of warships" "So, it makes sense that the inside face of the shutters would match the internal walls" And here you have it...... I think it looks quite good. I seem to be catching this detailing bug from @robgizlu @Jeff.M @beefy66 so I guess I'm officially doomed, I tell'e, doomed. Jon
  5. Sorry Rob, they came with the PE set from Eduard. Patience, grasshopper, patience. Jon
  6. I've been trying to get all the superstructure PE bent and assembled, ready to paint. I THINK I'm there, just need to stick to a piece of card and spray them. Before, here they are as a dry fit. Jon
  7. And there was me thinking you were going to convert that Landing Ship. Oh well, I suppose this’ll have to do. It’s a nice kit, as are all Atlantic Models and what you are going to do with it looks very interesting, funnily enough I almost changed Badsworth to carry the bow chaser, but chickened out. And yes, I have fond memories of the colour debate, but I did learn a lot from it and hopefully made a more accurate model. So, I’ll settle in and watch. Carry on that man. Jon
  8. These portholes go through the hull, so once the deck goes on there is no light behind them. Unlike those in a solid resin hull, where I agree you need to blacken them before glazing. Or I could instal LED’s and have them lit, but I think I’m drifting into my fantasy world. So I’ll go and lie down. Jon
  9. Deck in place. Now I can start building. Should look nice with yellow superstructure. Jon
  10. Buff paint applied to the hull. And just for @robgizlu at great expense, I've glazed the scuttles. If you think this is a bit over the top, I did find a WIP of this kit, where the builder actually added PE circles to these scuttles AND added eyebrows over them. Now that IS dedication. Jon
  11. As always, very good. And an inspiration to us all, and it’s the first time I’ve seen a crewman in the crows nest. Jon
  12. That was the first aeroplane I ever flew in. I think I was about 6, so that would make it about 1958, my father knew a pilot of one of these. I think we flew from, what was then Baginton Aerodrome, now Coventry Airport. Jon
  13. Enough enough, for today. I've given the hull its greyish paint. From what I can gather, although these ships looked white they were a very light grey, I think it's about right, maybe even a bit dark. I would have, as usual, used Colourcoats but I've run out of white and there is none in stock at Sovereign. So I'm using Lifecolor, not my favourite paint to spray but I've brushed this grey on and its come out ok. Mind you it has taken 5 coats. I've also been finishing off the deck houses/superstructure, so they'll be ready to paint after a light primer coat. I had a suspicion that the wood deck wouldn't quite agree with the PE footprint, being as it was made to go with the kit parts. But it's not that noticeable, so I think it'll do. And once the life boats go on, it'll be difficult to see the wood anyway. On the whole, its coming together quite well Jon
  14. Deck painted and wood added. I think I've got the colour right, as I believe the deck was Corticene. I've left the centre of the wood on for the moment, as I'm not sure how well the PE superstructure will stick down. These are the MicroMaster guns compared to the kit supplied ones, a little difference in detail
  15. Half complete ………😂😂😂😂😂😂 Funnels………………. MM…………………I’ve yet to remove the guns with shields, but they do look good. I’ll do a kit part comparison later. Jon
  16. Three funnels done and the start of deck houses in PE. The kit supplied superstructure is replaced by this PE, lot more detail. Although how much will be obvious under paint, remains to be seen. Antifoul and boot topping. And yes @robgizlu I will be glazing scuttles and windows, in fact if it can be glazed it will be. Jon
  17. Looking good there. Make sure the ‘water’ is really dry, before you add the ‘foam wash’ I did one base and added the ‘foam wash’ a bit early and it slowly took up some of the ‘water’ colour. Time to step up your game and try 1/350, after your successes with 1/700, it’ll be a doddle. Jon
  18. Thanks Beefy. Yeah, storage/display is become a slight problem. Jon
  19. I guess you watched the video ? But sorry disappoint, not a hope, three are quite sufficient. Jon
  20. That's me done for the day, I think I've gone crossed eyed. One more funnel to do, the first one is a bit rough, the second on better, so the third should be good. I have 6 extra PE pieces, so I might redo number one. Jon
  21. Fascinating. Thanks for sharing. Jon
  22. Just sprayed the hull with primer and whilst it dried I thought I'd add some PE to the funnels. I mean, how hard could it be ????? Hah......... First bit Next, this little b****r has to have each tab bend to 90 degrees. And fitted so.... Next....... These rings are in halves, this is definitely an aaaarrrrgggghhh job. As with all these macro photos, it looks a lot better with the naked eye, and will look much better once painted. Jon
