Tail fuselage lights- clear- lower aft of tail bumper cover- top one directly above. subdued orange downward ident light to the front of the ecm bulge. Landing light located in outer wings- these have to positions- partially extended TAXI- fully extended- LANDING. Many is the time as part of handling party we have watched the eyeballs in the sky- turn left for Waddington or right for Scampton over Lincoln Cathedral. Cheers vulcan-rigger
  2. Permissions chanfed- please try again. Cheers V-R
  3. Ye gods I remember being the ground eng on the tanker that dragged them there. Thanks for the memories. Cheers V-R
  4. Is this the area you are referring to ? http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigbirdavn/4344859960/ XM607 durung Corporate. This modification was applied to airframes intended to carry Skybolt. Vulcan intakes: Only two sizes were used. The first batch used the remaining centre sections from the tail end of the B.1 order and were smaller. The main batch of airframes used the same sized intakes however as the engines were of different sizes therefore the make up peices between Oly 200 ECU's and the intake were heavily tapered while those for the Oly 300 series were relatively flat- for a given value of flat. 5. >>Just to clarify - Our etched Vulcan set does not include FOD Guards.<< No FOD gaurds on Vulcans- the height of the intake was deemed high enough to remain FOD free although you could get some good twisters entering the outer corners if there were a few puddles on the pan and a bit of a crosswind and the engines were running above idle. HTH Cheers Vulcan-Rigger
  6. Strangely enough that was catered for by the anti flash screens and curtains in the cockpit that covered all the windows. Don't remember any of our crews playing pirates ! HTH Vulcan-Rigger
  7. >>I read somewhere that the ones that had 2 plates were blue steel equipped Vulcans. << Not strictly true however just to muddy the waters most were fitted with two counterpoise panels. Originally both had three Red Shrimp domes although at a later date a 'L' Band aerial was mounted on the starboard rear. HTH Cheers Vulcan-Rigger
  8. Managed to have a skive round 44 one day and had a look at both birds- neither had the stencilling- given the experience level of the guys working on these aircraft it wasn't needed especially as the finish was only temporary. HTH Cheers Vulcan-Rigger
  9. >>As part of the tanker conversion, I think the cooling scoop on the starboard (?) side was deleted<< Yes it was- the item removed was the cooling matrix for the vapour cycle cooling pack- this was used to cool down the water glycol that was pumped around the ECM cans. Get an armpit full of that in the summer and wasps would follow you antwhere! HTH Cheers Vulcan-Rigger
  10. >>The intakes might also be narrower for some of the earlier 200 aircraft, including 558. << The first small batch of B.2's were initially ordered on contract as B.1's. By the time the B.2 was ordered the centre sections, including intakes, had already been constructed therefore it was decided to utilise these and build the remainder of the airframe as B.2's. There was no problem in fitting Oly 200 series ECU's in these centre sections as the trials aircraft had been a B.1 anyway. HTH Cheers Vulcan-Rigger
