No rules broken, only 1 thread, only up for 2 weeks, no notification of any sort....just missing. Darren

Having searched for my recent for sale thread, I cant find it anywhere?. It wasn't breaking any rules and had sold a couple of kits. Even asked a fellow BMer to check, and he couldn't find it either. Has this happened to anyone else? Cheers Darren

hahaha Surviving RPGs not the point? Ridiculous an MBT needs to survive being hit from all sorts of threats where possible. I don't waste too much time on TV, so if it was 20 yrs old it wouldn't bother me and i don't own a mobile phone. And why? we were the masters of VSTOL with the Harrier, so much so the US bought from us and are still using them. Going by our last carrier the new carrier will need replaced in 25 years.
-
Because its a proven winner, no Challenger has been lost to the enemy to date, (despite one being hit by loads of RPGs and ATGM). Google destroyed M1 Abrams or Leopard 2, plenty of pictures. Why did we buy into the overpriced F-35? we just spent millions on the Typhoon, Why did we make 2 new aircraft carriers? navy had no jets for it.

Interesting indeed, I've avoided doing BEF colours for years, but decided to take the plunge with this kit. I've just today finished painting my Bronco A10 Mk1(not too worried as i have the superior Gecko A9/A10 kits). I used DOA paints i bought a long time ago. i've read all debates about the colours, and i think DOA Khaki Green G3 is spot on but the Dark green G4 is a little to olive for my liking. I've bought several companies versions of these colours but a lot of them still do G3 as a light green and the G4 really dark. Interesting as the MAFVA site states: Dark Green G4, provisional. No standard. Mix: 8 x Revell 361 + 1 x Revell 8 or Humbrol 33. Alternatives; Humbrol 116 or Humbrol 195 Tamiya 3 x XF61 + 2 x XF58. In use: 1939 till early 1941 as the disrupter over G3. Description: a dark yellow green of fairly low contrast against G3. I did a mix of the Tamiya colours above, and i should have gone with that but i wanted to give the DOA paints a go I think you cracked it there with the contrast. The image you posted of the restored Hillman is good, has anyone enquired as to how they came about that green? was it on the vehicle already hidden under something preserving the colour or did they follow a mixture from somewhere (it has the look of Humbrol 30 dark green to me) I'm hoping after washes and weathering it might darken the green up a bit. Cheers Darren

1-48th Aeroclub EE/BAC Lightning F6
MADMUSKY replied to MADMUSKY's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Yeah wings can be quite tricky to get correct, I align the wings up and tape together then use thin superglue and glue inside the wing allowing it to flow around every join. Yeah thanks for that Keith I've built a few so it's getting easier. Yeah I was the same, only it was my first Vac form kit, needless to say it didn't end well. 1-48th Trumpeter? did I miss the release of that?. No it's the Aeroclub canopy. Yeah I know the probe is angled down, its a small white metal piece with a small locating pin into the probe, it's fragile and I wanted it completed for the Group build in time. I will adjust it at some point. Cheers Darren -

Yeah the wing can be quite tricky, my first ever Aeroclub Lightning build had a different profile on each wing🤔 Today work. Assembled the undercarriage, the front required drilling and inserting a small brass pin for strength undercarriage fitted, yeah......no tail sitting Final few pieces parts added, A few small bits too add and its done!!, hoping tomorrow to get the missiles done in time. Vacform Lightning - I have no idea what I'm doing
MADMUSKY replied to chrislowe's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Good work so far just take your time and test fit, test fit, test fit, before you glue. It builds into a nice kit. Airfix my have the nice recessed panel lines but lacks the correct width, its just too skinny. And there's no angles in the leading edge of the wings. Darren -
Wow times getting short. To be fair I got offered some overtime so I worked 14 days straight, a mix of in work/work from home. Off today so had a wee bit of time to get some done. Finished painting and decaling gun panels, different colours to stand out a bit, a bit of pastels around the gun troughs, refuelling probe added Finished painting and decaling the over wing tanks, glued in place. Have to pull the old finger out, still quite a bit to do. Darren

Canopy time. masked around the canopy, then airbrushed yellow around the edges. then using 1mm masking tape I masked around the edge, then whole canopy airbrushed black. then I unmasked to see my efforts, the good side. Note I've unmasked the white metal nose ring. the bad side😟 I don't know what it is but I was left with some marks on this side and the masking tape has lifted a decal. After trying everything in my arsenal to get rid of it, I finally got most of it using 80% ethanol but required to do some touch ups as it removed some paint from the fuselage . Also I used a silver pencil to simulate worn away paint around the top of the front screen edges. The yellow line is a bit thick for my liking but that's what I get for trying to be smart a###, should have stuck with the decals. Cheers Darren

Small update Weathered......Waded through lots of pictures and my books for reference, it might be a bit too much? What do you guys think. I can tone down/touch up a few areas. Its had a coat of matt, still have a few panels to paint underneath, I want these to look like new replacements. Cheers Darren
-
Yeah picture hides it, but trust me it looks worse. Wasn't sure what to do with it, so last night I brushed a thin coat of clear on the grey and left it. Haven't been able to get to the bench today (the wife had me decorate the living room instead😟), so much for my time off🤔 Anyway I've just been and checked it, it's got its colour back, I guess the coat of clear worked. hopefully you can see the difference between the pictures from before. A few more panels to mask and paint, unmask then a coat of gloss ready for decals. Darren

Major bench time today. Got stuck into doing the upper camo that I forgot to take photos, but here it is unmasked. Whilst I'm happy with the green the grey is AWFUL, it was darker!! but when I lifted the masking tape, it's lifted some paint and is matt and really patchy. And looks brush painted?. I used Xtracylics RAF Dark Green and RAF Dark Sea Grey. So perhaps my grey has gone off? Going to have to figure how to darken it up, be it wash or overspray? not sure going to leave overnight and think about it. Cheers Darren

Corgi metal Spitfire, Yeah got it from a boy at work just sits on my desk. Small update A coat of Tamiya Flat Aluminium underneath, followed but adding different browns and black heavily thinned coats on different panels, Barley grey belly and missile pack panels also painted. Not too bad leave as is just now, decals and later on washes/pastels and varnish will tone it down. Next move onto the upper camo. Cheers Darren

Another small update. Decided to give the muzzle flash deflectors a go, drilled 0.3 holes around the edges then use 0.3 brass wire shape to what I need. from the front under a coat of primer, not perfect but will do me, Final coat of primer Leave to dry and harden, then the fun begins.......painting😀 I'm leaning toward a 11Sqn patchy/beaten Camo machine with a touch of low viz greys parts🤔 Cheers Darren
-
So canopy on, sprayed black then a coat of primer over it. Not too bad a few little areas to touch up. Wings have been attached, good joint on the top slight work needed underneath sitting next to Airfix F3 Leave it to dry overnight then some MORE clean up to do. Darren

Small update, Ejection seat painted. Installed, the small l shape tabs have glued in place, this will help with fitment of the canopy. Canopy successfully cut out, masked and glued in place, a few small gaps nothing major. onto the wings, added the small metal parts for the refuelling probe. added brass pins to the over wing tanks, mmmm picture highlights a bit more cleaning up on the tanks required. Leave things to dry, clean up around the canopy then get on with attaching the wings. Darren
