Here's what I had done before the GB started, got given the go ahead to join up. :)

I sprayed the body, doors etc with Hu220, wasn't happy with the result so I stripped it back with oven cleaner and re-primed. Built and primed the chassis and engine.

I covered the interior with glued tissue paper cos I thought it looked too smooth, also used some milliput on the seats. Black flocking powder used on the floors.

Got the engine and chassis painted today. I'm using some of the skills I've learned on my armour builds to weather it, a bit of salt chipping, I want it to look like a 50 year old track car.

I'm enjoying this car building lark!!

Cheers guys, I've been lurking on a few car modelling forums looking for building tips, don't know if you can see it very well in the pic above, but both seats were sprayed matt black, the drivers seat has a bit of a sheen as does the dashboard..... oil from my forehead rubbed on with my little finger!!

Interesting start, and some useful tips there. I might steal a couple of those for the future...

blimey we're all doing the same car.

I think i'll post a week or so behind you so that I can pick up all the tips. If you have a close up of the tissue paper in situ it would be much appreciated.

Will do, won't be able to get some pics till wednesday or thursday. I found some pics of a well used GTO online, the interior was covered in a padded leather with diamond pattern stitching. I tried to replicate this by placing the tissue paper on a piece of metal mesh (the kind used in car repairs) and brushing on some diluted white glue, when dry I carefully peeled it off, the diamond pattern still was in the paper, but it kind of disappeared when I glued it onto the body. I still think it looks ok though.

Here's a handy guide to applying adhesive foil for chrome trims around windows.

This build might be put on hold for a while, I broke the nozzle on my AB this morning, I've emailed the company in the UK where I bought it to see if i can get a replacement.

Continued on without an airbrush, working on weathering the chassis and engine....

SL380237.jpg

Got the interior pretty much finished, going to scratch-build some seatbelts, I wonder does anyone know if a normal GTO (not a racer) would have had seatbelts just across the lap, or 3 point belts? It's hard to find some good interior shots online. I put the wheels together, painted over the chrome with flat aluminium.

Here she is with the body fitted in place on top, can't go any further without an airbrush, hopefully that will be sorted this week, ordered a new one! :D

Not sure about the seatbelts, I'll have a shufti through my Ferrari books and see if I can find any pics.

Got some more work done on the GTO over the last week, I've learned a few things too....

Chassis and interior pretty much done. Finished weathering it with pro-modellers washes...

SL380260.jpg

SL380251.jpg

Painted the interior of the shell black, did some more weathering around the wheel arches....

SL380263.jpg

Primed the body with Hu34...

SL380266.jpg

Then gave the body several coats of Hu220, rubbing down in between each coat with Tamiya compound... (this pic is with a flash so it looks a wierd colour)

SL380269-1.jpg

Then i fecked up... I put on the decals and gave the whole body a coat of Halfords clear lacquer, I found out gloss enamel paint doesn't like this lacquer, it ate into the paint in some places, so I had to sand all the lacquer off to sort it, which wasn't easy. Still, I'll know for the next build not to use this stuff.

Here's where it's at when I left it today, scratched some seat-belts, also cut out the air intakes on the bonnet and added some fine metal gauze.

I'm not happy with the fit of the bonnet, it's not glued so I'll try and do something with that. I'm still having fun with this one. :D

This one is finished, I'm happy enough with my 1st car build since i was about 12 (the last one was a 1/24 Lamborghini Diablo). Will post more pics in the showroom. :)

On to the next one now, a 308 GTB.

It's going to be a lot quicker, only a few parts in it.
