  1. Hi everybody; many of you may know about the recent releases from FineMolds of various Phantom subjects. My dear friend @Gene K was so kind and donated me this: This is going to be my first Long Nose Rhino; I thought (upon Gene's advice ) of throwing in also the Finemolds armament set and their pitot pipes brass set However, it just so happens that a while ago @Gene K had already donated to me another Long Nose Phantom kit, this one So I thought: why not a double build? Maybe trying to duplicate some of the features form the modern Finemolds kit and use them to improve the venerable Hasegawa kit? And maybe viceversa? Back then, I also acquired a few AM sets to spice up the HASEGAWA kit: Aires exhausts, Eduard PE set (full, not only the cockpit set) and Master Brass pitot pipes. And obviously, Gene's seamless intakes Right. Which subjects to represent, though? I don't really feel like I want to build a Japanese aircraft, at the moment; and I don't particularly care for the schemes proposed in the Hasegawa boxing too. So I ordered a decals set for an Iranian AC and one for an Hellenic Air Force Phantom. They're on their way from Poland and should hopefully be here soon. Both airframe have slatted wings, so the HASEGAWA kit is just fine, while the Finemolds one represents a model of the "hard wing" type, so the first challenge will be to upgrade that, copying the Hasegawa parts or sourcing stuff from other kits (a Revell F-4F, for instance - currently waiting to know from a friend if he has one to spare). This is going to be quite a long term project, also because I will put it on hold at a certain point, as soon as I receive my kits for the 453rd Museum build. It should hopefully be fun though. As usual, any comments, pointers and advice welcome. Ciao
  2. I'm looking information about camo of Fw 190 in Turkish A.F. Some sources claim that were standard LW camo RLM 74/75/76 but according to others (for example Tiger Head Decals) RLM71/02/65. In in the end od service 190 received own camo - by RAF Dark Earth/Dark Green/Azure or all green (US Olive Drab?). Every helps are welcome - eduards kits is waiting.
  3. Turkey flew quite a few Spitfires, during and post WW2. When their MK V's were withdrawn from front line duties and replaced with Thunderbolts and later model Spitfires, some Mk V's found their way to the Turkish Central Flying School, or Hava Okulu from about 1948 onwards. I'll be using the Tamiya kit with decals from Blackbird Models.
  4. Probably shouldn't start this one yet since I'm not finished with my Bf-110 but I made the mistake of using Vallejo primer on it, there was some spatter and a couple blemishes, and I can't sand it for 48 hours ... so I'm going to do what I can on my P-40 instead. I chose the Airfix 1/72 P-40B, which seems like a really nice kit so far. Very simple, not tons of detail, but so far decent (yet far from perfect) fit. I won't do box shots or sprues because everyone else in here already has. Instead I'll post shots of what I have done so far in barely an hour's time while running in and out of the house on errands, so you can see what a nice, quick build this really is. And shots of the decals. Haven't decided yet whether I want to do White 17 or AK992 yet. But it's gonna be one of those.
  5. Zvezda's new Airbus A320 finished in the retro colours of THY - Turkish Airlines (Thanks to 26 decals) I also used Skyline's stencils and etched metal set - pretty comprehensive. No apologies for the number of pics - it was sunny today and I got carried away ! Followed by four from the top : I'm afraid I haven't any family / comparison shots, so I'll have to resort to a couple of full frontals. (Sorry team.....) I hope MikeW (aka "cheatline central") is proud of himself for talking me out of using my home-made decals for this one. You've just delayed the inevitable mate. Pretty pleased with the outcome - hope you like it. mike
  6. Hello fellaz, I have been away from the forum for quite some time cause of busy work schedule etc but I kept building models on and off so in the last few months I completed 4 and about to complete the 5th... Here is one of them, Fokker E.III with Ottoman markings: Regards
  7. Hello people, I just finished this build. On thursday I found a Revell 1/72 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.V kit in the local store I buy most of my kits from and I felt like I had to buy it cause from what I see most modelers build at least one, it seemed obligatory. After taking a first look at the kit I thought many build spitfires so many may have built the kit and built it OOB as I usually do so I thought I might try something different. Why not build a Spitfire that flew for my country, served in my city and I found this as a reference: I checked the only online store that sells after market stuff in Turkey but there were no specific decals for this specific plane, even the common Turkish markings for the time were sold in only 1/48 scale so I had no luck. Then I said why not try to create them by painting ( no I don't print decals myself and don't plan to for now) and use the common decals from the kit. The worst that could happen is I'd make a mess and return back to RAF decals. While making the plane I remembered the bases left from my die cast car models so I thought of using one as a base (1/24 seemed too big so I used a 1/43 model's base) and also create kind of a small diorama, that would be a first for me, so this was overall an experimental build and here is the result I am pretty much satisfied with: OK.14 Central Flying School Eskişehir/Turkey , Hope you liked it Regards
