Does anyone else have this specific set and would you recommend it for a beginner with a tight budget
  2. I want to practice airbrushing a camouflage scheme on something cheap, so I've got a MisterCraft Hunter for less than £6. There are some issues with the intakes and the jet pipe will need drilling out, but it looks like a Hunter so it'll do for the purposes of what is basically a paint test. * Mr Cheap Potatoes is a reference to the name given to the excellent travel writer Tim Moore by his family, because he can't resist a bargain.
  3. hay this is a guide to setting up a bhiner account to buy modelling supplies, kits, hard to find resin kits, photo etch, tools, decals, anything other than paint and liquids as postage from bhiner is always different types of airmail so no liquids or flamables. ok so taobao is a internal chinese selling website abit like ebay or amazon, the website is for china only, you can look on it but the sellers dont do international shipping, so you need a 3rd party agent (bhiner) to buy things. you can get just about anything and many things for modelling that are hard to find outside of china, alot cheaper than anywhere else. seam scrapers for £1, photo etch for £2, metal parts and thrusters about half price of ebay, decals for £2, ect ect. it is a gold mine for gundam and scifi modellers, but is useful for other types of modelling but not sure of how good the savings are for stuff related to your type of modelling. so il tell you how bhiner works then walk through the process. so after signing up to bhiner, you can buy items, they will be sent to bhiner and saved in their warehouse to build up a big package or send as soon as item gets to the warehouse. so after signing up to bhiner you can search for stuff you want on taobao using bhiner search bar or look directly on taobao, id say it is best to look on taobao as you can search easily in modelling shops, id suggest you use google chrome browser as they have a translate feature and after finding what you want you can copy and paste the taobao address of item into bhiner search bar to find and buy on bhiner. the bhiner website will ask for quantity and if there are options for item choose what you wish and "add to cart" now, once you have the item or items in cart, you can check out straight away or "quote items" which just means someone at bhiner will confirm the price before buying. once you have paid for item the order will be moved for the orders page. on the orders page will be a list of all the items that are on their way to the warehouse or at the warehouse(the items at the warehouse will have a photo next to them taken by bhiner staff showing the actual item) and when want your things posted to you just send them a message with what shipper you want to go with and they will get a quote pay that and you are done. something to note is when you pay for your postage you can alter the marked value of the package, last month i got a £300 package through customs with just a £14 customs charge, which would have been £72. hope this helps, it really isnt as confusing as it first looks.
  4. Morning all, I haven't done a WIP in a while so I thought I might have a go with the new Airfix BE2c (1:72). I'm planning to do this as an "out of the box" build-apart from one or two scratchbuilt details along the way. First, the kit. A nice, small and sturdy box The contents. Exceptionally good decals, very neat! Clear windscreens without any blemishes, the only problem is that they are terribly small! The sprues- one or two ejector pin marks on the inside of the fuselage- but these are out of sight when the cockpit is fitted. Sam
  5. Hi All, I'm thinking of getting a second airbrush for clear-coating, as I don't want to risk putting too much Klear through my H&S Evolution. I'm after a reliable single-action model for £20-£30. I have a little-jet compressor: http://www.modellingtools.co.uk/little-jet-compressor-3441-p.asp Does anyone know of one (or better have one for sale?) which will work with this compressor? Or (forgive my ignorance) can I get an adaptor so that it fits? Any help appreciated, cheers, James
  6. I've just bought X-plane X cheap from Game in Cambridge. £30 for the global edition with 8 DVDs which take nearly 3 hours to install and a big update afterwards. Thought this was a bit of a steal. Now to try and fly the ruddy thing as it won't recognise my old Wingman extreme joystick! Well it will but the aircraft does veer off the runway and a really good rate!
  7. Greetings. My participation in this Group Build will serve little purpose other than to counterbalance the landslide of Eduard masterpieces taking part and to get rid of some loft insulation. The starting point is that old pony, OEZ Lethorad's MiG-21 MF/SMT/bis, which for years has been the only way to represent a late model Fishbed. For those unfamiliar with its appearance: (Clicking on the images above will lead you to a high-res version). The optional canopies: The surface detail: The external loads: Other than some well documented problems with the shape (wrong fuselage section, canopy size, and tail surfaces sweep) and fit (multiplied sevenfold if you're doing a bis or SMT), the kit has an odd feature in which all the mating surfaces of the wings and tail fin have an inner ridge that will prevent you from getting the right section. To my knowledge there is only one way to overcome this: Before and after: Before and after - the outcome: One of the MiGs will be all buttoned up, undercarriage included, so I did the wings as well: And that's all for today...
