  1. Hi guys, so this will eventually be the spot where you'll be able to follow-on with me while I build my Kinetic Su-33 + Quinta cockpit detail set. But that won't be for a couple of months as I have another "What if" in the pipeline atm (RAF Skyhawk). The very basic background story to this build is, 20 ex-Russian Navy Su-33 fighters were bought cheap (engines and spares included) by the People's Liberation Army Air Force and put into service in Niger, Africa. Serving as part of a forward deployed unit (Su-33, J-20 and J-10) protecting precious mineral mining operations in the South of Niger. With the United States Government desperate to holt even more advancements in Chinese computer chip technology a U.S. Military Special Forces detachment (Delta Force) was forward deployed to Cameroon to try and get close to the mining operations to see if it could be sabotaged. In support of the Special Forces detachment was a mixed squadron of US Navy F-18E Super Hornets and one squadron of USAFA (United States Air Force Africa) F-16's. It was decided to camouflage the jets as Cameroon Air Force aircraft to alleviate any Chinese suspicions about their intentions in the region. With Cameroon politicians sufficiently convinced (bribed ) into believing this move would be a beneficial one for the country the way was set for the building of the base of operations in the north of the country. Things turned hot one day as a hotshot Navy pilot got a bit too close and was shot down by a Chinese S-400 SAM system. The subsequent rescue operation for the ejected Hornet pilot was a complete failure with the Australian Army MRH-90 Taipan rescue helicopter being shot down along with its onboard SAS rescue team. Following SEAD (Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses) operations lead by USAF F-16's were neutralised by J-20's and Su-33's. The camouflage scheme for the US Navy F-18E Super Hornets looks like this. (I intend building the Meng kit for this with a Reedoak sitting pilot figure in the cockpit, probably late 2022 ) As I haven't drawn-up an Su-33 profile yet I'll be using top and eventually side views of an Su-35 so I can get an idea of what sort of camouflage scheme I'm going to settle on for this build, and I'll be bringing you along on this journey of discovery so you can see how things evolve as the project moves forward. For those of you that are familiar with my work you'll know that I love "What if?" desert schemes more than anything else. And this hypothetical story lends itself to a lot of possibilities, both now and in the future as I could include not only a Super Hornet as seen above, but also the other aircraft types involved in the story as it too evolves along with the project. The PLAAF forward airbase at Kaadjia in Niger obviously doesn't actually exist. but looking on Google Earth the location does. The desert in this area looks very bizarre and has lots of variation in colour and texture. So, for me it's a Smörgåsbord of camouflage possibilities. I will spend some weeks messing about with various schemes until I decide on the definitive scheme. All of which I will share with you here. Cheers Richard.
  2. China's modern air arm is noterious for being filled of 'rip-off' aircraft. The J-10 is apparently the Lavi. The J-31 is apparently made from hacked F-35 designs. The J-20 also follows this pattern, but less obviously. It's alleged that this aircraft draws it's origin from the Mig 1.44 - an aircraft that (sadly) never got into production. I don't know why, but Chinese aircraft have fascinated me recently. Ever since finishing my J-10 I've just become completely obsessed with Chinese aviation! So, a J-20 had to be made. Construction is/was beautiful! It's fit together so seamlessly. I actually forgot to put this up here, however, so I'm pretty far in now. Really I'm nearly at painting.
  3. Hi, Want some wild colour schemes and bizarre partnerships? What about Bangladesh Let 410, Sri Lankan Kfir, Taiwanese B-24, Malaysian A-400, Myanmar MiG-29, South Korean Hawk, Communist Chinese La-11, Indian Navy Do.228, PLAAF Divine Eagle? And on, and on and on.....! Asian Air Arms SIG has been set up to enable modellers to access a huge resource of post-1945 military aircraft subjects from 26 Asian countries: Mongolia to the Maldives, and from Japan to Afghanistan. Huge website http://www.asianairarms.com offers thousands of photos, colour schemes, research, contemporary accounts, kit lists, decal info, photos of members' models and air arms' lists of serial numbers. We exhibit at many UK shows including North East, Midlands and South West. Members are encouraged to display under our banner. Next two shows: Boscombe Down 6th August, and IPMS Avon 13th August. We welcome all, particularly those with specialised knowledge to help add to, and improve the accuracy of, our resources. Costs nothing to join, just click "Join Here" on our website and you'll go straight on to our mailing list.
  4. No photos yet gang but simply nailing my colours to a mast and making a commitment. Plan is to finish a couple of long-term projects and thus create a bit of bench space before starting this one. I've a few examples of the new Airfix 27nd scale kit in the stash and plans for all of them but the simplest and most likely for me to realise within the GB timescale will be one from the Chinese Peoples Liberation Army Air Force. From what I've read these were abandoned Taiwanese aircraft captured at various airbases and impressed into service with the rapidly growing PLAAF along with a plethora of other types including P-47, B-25, C-46, Mosquito and anything else that was servicable during the civil war in China. The few photos I've found on-line show war-weary aircraft with little more than the yellow-trimed red star and bar we now recognise as of the Chinese Air Force along with a red striped rudder and red spinner. I have, however, failled to find a suitable after-market decal sheet that covers this subject so instead am using the markings from the Airfix MiG-15 kit kindly sent to me by a fellow BM member. It'll be a wee while before progress begins with this one but in the meantime I'm gathering as much lnks and information as I can find on the subject. First off some inspiration; http://russiancouncil.ru/common/upload/avianoak111.jpg
  5. Hello! Let me intruduce my 1/72nd Trumpeter "G" Flanker from the PLAAF. At sunday late night I've finished this project. I am not 100% satisfied with the kit itself and neither with the result of my job, but I am happy to see this giant in my cabinet. However its a farly nice model kit, its not precise enough for me. Actually it had a lot of irritating issues with the accuracy of the details. Or the lack of the details. Either the armament is chaotic! If You want to build a Flnaker it'll do it, but if you want to build an accurate SU-30 MKK, well... as we say: tie up your pants. But I also have to say that the fitting wasn't bad at all. I would give a 7 on a scale up to 10. And here you are the pictures: For the details of the construction, visit: '&do=embed' frameborder='0' data-embedContent>>
  6. Szervusztok! My F-4ETM is in finish, so I looking for the next challange. I bought it one year ago and after this one year salivation I preparing to start the buildig. Also, the Summer Santa give me a box os Rus. A2G armament. I choose the other painting variant, this a/c belonging to a testing and training unit. I still hesitating on the arming. I going to add some strike congig, but have not decided yet, exactly what. Maybe that one from the box art? Or do a Wild Weasel? In Wild Weasel rola MKK carries up to six(!) X-31 missiles. If not all of the six, but I would happily mount four X-31s just to make it looks like a real strike-fighter. http://chinese-military-aviation.blogspot.hu/p/attack-aircraft.html Also here is written, that MKKs go to patrol with R-77. On this way I think about such a loadout that contains the two ECM pods on the wingtips, two R-37, two R-77 and four X-31, but I am not sure if it is a "clever" choose? Atleast is it may possible at this unit... SU-30MKK serving in other Chineese units I also could find such loadouts: So is it possible that 2+2+2+4 config? Anyway, has anyone references for SU-30MKK cockpit? I tried Google, but how should I know I found exactly MKK cockipt (not MKI or whatever) ?
  7. Made from Trumpeter kit. Thanks for viewing.
  8. Hi, Anyone got a definitive colour for the upper surfaces of the PLAAF Il-76MDs that are now in camo? Have seen many colour photos, and upper surfaces look anything from light grey to yucky duck-egg green.
