  1. Here’s my entry, GWH’s 1/48 Northrop P-61B Black Widow night fighter. My preference is to do one of the all-black with red versions operating out of Iwo Jima in 1945. I acquired this kit when it was first released (2015? Nine years ago! Egads!) and forgot that I bought a bunch of after market (back in my flush working days before my 2016 retirement): I’ve also collected the following reference books through the years which should also help me narrow down the exact aircraft I will attempt to model: Im thinking of doing either “Lady in the Dark”, “Cooper’s Snooper” or “Night Take-Off”. It will be fun to research the differences other than nose art and ID numbers if any. The wife and I are headed out of town for a three week trip next week so I probably won’t make much progress before mid- Feb but I wanted to put a stake in the ground. I’ve always loved the weirdness of this aircraft and have fond memories of building the old Aurora kit as a kid (60+ years ago!). Looking forward to sharing this one with all my friends here. Cheers, John
  2. So for the GB I'll be attempting this kit: Seems I have a love for odd looking, twin boom / twin bodied aircraft, so this will be in fine company with my recently built and similarly black F-82 Twin Mustang. I've got a few after market bits - a set of Print Scale decals, plus some Eduard canopy masks and their small interior PE kit. In terms of Journey's End, according to Wikipedia: So I might do that decal option from the pack or maybe "Cooper's Snooper" (P-61B-2 42-39454 flown by 1 Lt George C Cooper, 548th NFS, Iwo Jima, Spring 1945) since I like the look of the nose art. I've got 3 other GB builds to do first, so you might have to wait a while for the sprue shots and build start!
  3. Hello all; I present here my recently completed GWH P-61. The short version is that I really enjoyed this one and think it came out quite well. The only missing is the drop tanks; inexplicably they are missing from the kit (or at least missing from mine) and one day I'll add some. All comments welcome! The long version of the story, with more pics, can be found on my website, making-history.ca Cheers; Mark.
  4. P-61B Update sets & Masks 1:72 Eduard for Hobby Boss Kit The new tool P-61B is welcome for those who build WWII American Aircraft, Eduard are now along with some sets for it. Get what you want for the areas you want to be more of a focal point. As usual with Eduard's Photo-Etch (PE) and Mask sets, they arrive in a flat resealable package, with a white backing card protecting the contents and the instructions that are sandwiched between. Interior Set (73638) This set has one pre-painted fret, and one brass one. You get cockpit details, seat belts (for both stations), instrument panels, and the other panels. There are parts for the turrets and many internal features. New sides are provided for the inside of the gunners station. A new entry hatch is provided, as many internal parts. Zoom! Set (SS638) This set contains a reduced subset of the update set, namely the pre-painted parts that are used to improve on the main aspects of the cockpit, as seen above, with the seat belts. Whatever your motivations for wanting this set, it provides a welcome boost to detail, without being concerned with the structural elements. Exterior Set (72674) This set contains as the name would suggest parts for the aircraft exterior. There are new interior parts for the main gear wells, mud guards for the wheels, engine vent panels. engine wiring harnesses, main gear brake lines & links, a new fuselage aerial, wing radiator inlets, and flap guides Masks (CX519) Supplied on yellow kabuki tape, these pre-cut masks supply you with a full set of masks for the glazing. In addition you get a set of hub/tyre masks for the wheels, allowing you to cut the demarcation perfectly with little effort. Review samples courtesy of
