  3. I'm at the stage on my builds now that I am fairly confident that I can add another 'Trailblazer' kit to this GB - the Bleriot XI. I picked this one because it is fairly small and uncomplicated and should mostly be painted before assembly and it's also a really fascinating subject as well. There does look like there will be rigging though! Also, what other kit comes with a piece of the Dover Cliffs turf as a diorama? The kit colour is 'linen' anyway so I can leave those parts 'bare' Educational list of parts included. There's the extra piece of history text that comes with the Trailblazer kits - lovely! Oversized figure also present as well as the scaled pilot - hope I get the colour of Louis' moustache right!
  4. The Musée des Arts et Métiers is in downtown Paris is a science museum and has a small aviation collection of interesting artefacts. The full size airframes are historic each in their own right, which makes this a worthy destination after visiting the Musée de L'Air at le Bourget, especially since the pioneer and Great War gallery there seems to have been stuck in refurbishment limbo for years now. Some images. By far the star at the museum is Clement Ader's Avion III. Europe 204 Ader's novel and complex steam engine that powered the Avion III. Europe 206 The vehicle gallery inside the old church. Europe 210 The ungainly Breguet R.U.1. Europe 211 Robert Esnault-Pelterie's R.E.P. of 1908. Europe 212 Louis Blériot's English Channel crossing XI. Europe 213 Not an aeroplane, but Marcel Leyat's Hélica D.21, which was known as "L'avion sans ailes" - the aircraft without wings. Europe 214 Another 'not an aircraft'; this bicycle was designed by Clement Ader. Europe 215 Model of a Deperdussin A. Europe 216 A model of an Antoinette monoplane. Europe 217 Swiss brothers Armand and Henri Dufaux's unpiloted hélicoptère of 1905, which they flew from the Parc de St Cloud near Paris. This is the full size vehicle. Europe 218 Thanks for looking.

From 11 years ago, another scratchbuilt model associated with the series of early pioneers, this time part of a series of Bleriot designs (previous to the flight across the Channel) Here is today the Bleriot V "canard". Actually, it seems to be that this was the first airplane nicknamed after the not-so-elegant quacking relative, later to become a generic for the stabilizer-first airplane configuration. This one wasn't really very successful, achieving just a few promising long hops and several failures of the landing gear in the process. Rebuilt, as usual, a few times with modifications, this model represents one of them. Hidden in the back is a very simple replica of the Antoinette 24 cv that supposedly propelled the plane. The off-center position of the prop blades axis is correct, and was used in other Bleriot planes. Control was executed by twisting the wings, moving the stab, shouting loudly, kicking the cockpit floor and generally spanking the fuselage to encourage it to leave the ground.

  7. Hello, My second 1/48 model ever, the Inpact Bleriot 1910 Monoplane, as re-released by Round2/Lindberg. OOB except for stretched sprue rigging and home-made wire wheels. WIP is here. I got home today and took these pictures outside on my step in fading daylight. If they are blurry it's because I was shivering from the cold! Thanks for looking, Adrian
  8. I picked this up for a fiver on Ebay. As with most of the kits I've built recently, I have no idea what I'm 1 doing, or how it will turn out - except that I'll do my best too not squash the damned thing. The plastic is more like the stuff Hornby & Peco make sleepers out of for their railway track - so I have no idea what glue works with this. Looking at the few attempts at this kit on Flickr, the wooden frame is certainly a little thick, so one of my first tasks was to start filing it down a little. This was going well until one of the struts pinged off & got swallowed by the carpet monster, so at some point I'll have to replace that with something out of the spares box. The kit is certainly very basic & also fairly inaccurate - the number of struts making up the rear section of the fuselage doesn't match photos of the real thing - probably because they're so thick. I've decided to use Vallejo "aged white " for the fabric colour. Most pics of the real thing that I've seen show the shadow of the wing structure through the fabric, so I'm using revel reddish brown to mark out the frame inn the hope that it will show through the white without being too dark. So long as I can get it all together in a reasonably tidy fashion I reckon rigging it with ez-line will make look reasonably good, even if it isn't all that accurate. after three short evenings here's where I've got to... I reckon it'll take about two weeks to complete using my ham-fisted methods.
