  1. How could I not join an Interceptor GB with anything other than an Angel Interceptor!!! This is an old resin kit from UNCL, also known as the legendary 'Uncle' Bill Oram. I'd been looking for this kit for years as its been out of production for quite a while and then this one came up on Facebook last month for a reasonable price so snapped it up. Its UNCL's old cream resin, with a vac-formed canopy and some small white metal parts for the pilots arms and the wing skids. It came without decals but I have spares for the Spectrum roundels in 1:48 from my What-If builds, when I sourced a bunch of decals from JBOT in the USA. The large A on the underside will be masked and painted For the A on the tail I've got examples from the 1:24 Angel I built last year I have photographed to turn into an image I can print myself. I'll raid the spares box from some other decals for the ejector seat warnings etc. The first job will be to wash it all in soapy water and then cut all the excess resin from the pour stubs and clean up the mating surfaces and joints. This is going to be a bit messy so I might try to do some of it outside weather permitting. A mask will be worn of course, we're all getting used to wearing those beyond the resin modelling arena!
  2. Rejoining to build an idea I've had for a long time, with this Airfix Angel Interceptor kit, in RAF Interceptor scheme. g Kit cost me £2.50, well 4 for £10 at a local car-boot sale in 2015. Rest of the litter was an Assault Gun, an 88mm plus tug, and a P-40B. This is the last built of that spend, so £10 well spent. To build with with leftover Fujimi Phantom decals. I'd really love to know how this would perform in combat, at least we'll see how it would look. Twisted News Reports: In the dark day of 1966, the RAF has no effective interceptor force. The promised Lightning was cancelled at the same time as the TSR2, leaving the RAF reliant upon subsonic Hunters and their allies. Around the same time Gerry Anderson was realizing that his Captain Scarlet series, would never be as successful as Thunderbirds, and was thinking of his next project. Rumours and speculation were rife at Spectrum, Col White opted for early retirement, Cptn Black ran off to become an undercover hit-man, Captain Scarlet an office furniture salesman, Captain Blue a male model, and Lt Green a movie stunt-double. Orders came through for Cloudbase to descent to a lower altitude over the mid-Atlantic, and for the Angels to push their Interceptors over the edge of the flight deck. In a bizzare twist of fate, the British Prime Minister heard that the Interceptors were available, and called Gerry Anderson to see if a deal could be arranged. Here was an available aircraft with twice the speed of that troublesome Lightning project that he'd cancelled - what's not to like, he'd become the Hero of the RAF! Orders came thru just in time to save the first Interceptor from its watery grave, Cloudbase ascended again - and the Angels launched their aircraft, arriving at RAF London an hour later. To say that the RAF were surprised at their arrival was an understatement - though the Angels themselves were hugely popular, despite no female mess facilities. But what to do with those planes? No two-seat trainers available, downward firing ejection-seat, strange undercarriage without wheels, unconventional weaponry - integration was not going to be easy. The first job that could be accomplished, was a repaint. As the first aircraft were earmarked for 43, and 111 Interceptor Squadrons - the first aircraft was painted in a low-viz grey scheme, with those squadrons markings on either side.
  3. Started over the Easter weekend, finished 1st July, with a break in the middle for a hernia operation - not bad going considering This is the resin kit by Simian Stuff, available from Kits for Cash It was a bit of a beast as this was one of the earlier kits, the newer ones have a different parts breakdown. It was painted with Halfords primers and Appliance White, but given a Daler & Rowney matt varnish at the end. The decals which come with the kit were printed by JBOT and are lovely. I added a load more from the spares box for the "No Step" stencils and so on. The build thread is here, in which you can see me 'wrestle' with the resin, hole, gaps and voids! It measures: Length: 2' 6" (80cm) Width: 17" (43cm) Height: 7" (18cm) This is not a decal - it was masked and painted! Some details not easily visible now: Instrument panel Now my main problems are two fold: 1) Find a box big enough to transport this to model shows and protect it in transit 2) Find a place to display it in my house! At the moment it has pride of place on my coffee table!
  4. With the prospect of an Easter weekend of good weather coming along, I thought it was time to dig out a kit I've had int he stash for 18 months since it was released at SMW in 2017 by Kits for Cash. Its a very large amount of resin that will need a significant amount of sanding so there was no way I was going to do that in the house or even in the shed! I've set up a work table in the garden ready to begin work tomorrow. Here are the original "sprue shots from 2017 Yes it has an obviously female pilot, unlike the Airfix kit! This is from the original batch of castings Simian Stuff did. Since they they've had it recast and this part is now split into 3, fuselage and separate wings. So now we come up to the present day and this evening I got it all out of the box that has been languishing on the shelf for 18 months and gave it all a good wash in warm soapy water. Here it is drying just now Tomorrow, weather permitting, I'll be out in the garden and start sanding down some of those quite prominent seams and flash...
  5. Hi there! I was going to put this in the reviews section, but It seems I can't!....................so i'll put it here...................! While building My UNCL Fireball XL5, I became aware (thanks Kallista!) that there was a Studio Scale Angel Interceptor kit, produced by Simian Stuff and available through Kits For Cash:- https://www.kitsforcash.com/captain-scarlet-angel-interceptor-new-release-i5999.htm After viewing the price, and receiving a dose of smelling salts (Thank You Lisa!!), I decided I had got to have one! After several trips to 'Stash Convertor' (Ebay!!) , I managed to gather together enough plastic (resin?) vouchers to acquire one! I cannot find an out of the box review for the kit, so I thought I would put one up here so You can see what it's all about. 12" / 300mm rule shown in photos for scale. The kit comes in a large corrugated card box with a nice full colour label on the top:- A set of instructions cover the (not too difficult) assembly procedure, the kit comprises of only 27 parts, shown here:- ....and a nice set of Decals printed by Jbot Decals:- I think You are getting an idea of the size of this model, the Spectrum roundels are about 2"/50mm in diameter! Photos of the resin parts:- Rear Fuselage:- Upper and lower cockpit sections:- Separate Front jet intake (handy for painting the hard to get at bits) ,this is then fitted to the cockpit section,a close up of the cockpit detail, and posed with the nose section, which is re-inforced with a metal rod to prevent warping:- Main wing panels are solid resin with interlocking tabs, and fit together very nicely. Panel lines are engraved throughout on the external surfaces, including the large 'A' on the underside which will make for easy masking off:- The rear Ramjet intake is moulded seperately from the fin, to allow for the (supplied) aliminum mesh to be fitted into ready-formed recesses in it's underside, and to paint the areas seperately, before gluing to the main fin, a nice touch that will save a lot of fiddly masking!:- (Edit:- After further research, it appears that these are not intakes, but control and braking outlets!) Solid 1 piece tailplane is nearly 12" Span!! Clear resin cockpit should polish up nice:- Cockpit detail includes a nicely cast instrument panel and housing (no instrument decals supplied but should be easy to source):- One Angel figure, nicely cast with separate arms and boots (), arms with 'Rams Horn' yoke section ready moulded in, and a clear resin helmet moulding:- Ejector seat with finely moulded-in harness and full control yoke:- Nose skid, nose-gear door and metal rod for leg, and wingtip main skids:- the nose canard:- No scale is given for the kit, but working on published figures for the 'Real' aircraft, it comes out at about 1/24th, 'Studio Scale' , Approx. 30" / 760mm overall length It is not cheap (It has took a fair load off My roof trusses!) , but a finely made and well researched, and to My Mk.2 (untrained) eyeball, looks pretty damn close to Derek Meddings fantastic creation!! Very little work in the way of pour-stub removal and clean-up. Oh, and I have yet to find a bubble anywhere in any of the castings! I hope this review is of some use / interest! Keep Sticking! Cheers, Pete More in depth information here:- https://www.spectrum-headquarters.com/angel_interceptor.html
  6. The World Army Air Force ‘Viper’ is a single-seat strike aircraft capable of 3,000mph. Developed by International Engineering (2068), it was adopted by the Red Arrows Aerobatic Display Team for the 2070 display season.
  7. Hi all, Some photographs of 4 of the kits I've completed since getting back into kit building - this time with a Sci-Fi/comic book slant. All mostly 'out of the box' builds and all great fun to make! Airfix Angel Interceptor Polar Lights Batmobile - Snap Kit Polar Lights Batmobile - Snap Kit Moebius Batpod Imai Thunderbirds Zero-X I have uploaded some photos of 4 of the real space kits I have completed since getting back into kit building and they can be found here. My current build of Bandai's ISS Space Suit can be found here. Cheers, Stix
