  1. funny thing is, the instructions say to use chrome yellow for the US wings,, but that color is discontinuted by testors, and the box art doesnt match with what shows up in photos for the paint.. SO im deffinitely going to need to get more paint,, yippee, the yellow with red is it.. On the paint job, the box art only has a black section in front of the front cockpit, while that photo above shows black paint in front of both cockpits..
  2. the pt-20kit that arrived today says the floatplane is intended to be a nederlands airforce stm-s2 float plane.. the kit box photos show it as overall silver wings and body, with off grey floats... but the vitachrome corporation decals only include the orange triangles and plane number for the dutch, the orange rudder is a "get your own paint on it" if you want the box paint scheme in chrome silver delivery attire. Still the green is an itneresting one to pursue..
  3. Done some more research on the kit.... seems its a simple build, the complexity comes from the minimal rigging, and painting the included water landing base if you do the sea plane version. See bits of a company called Fisher that made a 1/32 scale kit. Seen yellow as the standard wing color, but white and plain silver/aluminum fuselage covering.
  4. thats what i am trying to find, in essence a build log with actual explanation and detail of what is actually done.. its nice to read "then i applied a wash to the cockpit instrument panel, painted,,, etc..." then see a finished product, but id actually like the steps in between
  5. But thats a cause of another problem. Its easy to see user99 do a panel wash on his instrument panel and be treated like a god, or see how user357 does a panel wash and homemade turnbuckles on his plane, but its not easy to tie things together onto a different model
  6. please lets not get started on what black is in the flower world... then when the carrier agent dissipates the color changes again.. sadly..
  7. then whats the best yellow to get from tamiya? as long as i can use the chrome silver i dont mind getting a tiny bit of yellow, but this modelling paint really gets me going. Like imitation bacon.
  8. i dont have much in the way of paint right now.. that desert yellow is only one i have.
  9. Has there been a "build along" group build? I mean an educational one where one gifted person takes folks along from start to finish to do a detailed build on a simple kit.. or best way to say it every one buys an "easy low cost but good quality kit" , and then the educator simply goes along and builds it step by step and everyone else gets to follow and learn how to detail that lil kit into something better then out of box..
  10. Why are the tube sights such a rare item to see on a model kit?
  11. im getting a lindberg 1/48 bulldog and a 1/48 curtis goshawk.. the 1/72 monogram re issue goshawk is what got me started down the road, and as it was unfindable at the time i went with other things. Things that i wish i hadnt purchased, but have learned alot from. I am hoping that going with old school kits will make me happier, and get back into modelling better.
  12. Getting some unopened kits via ebay, it should be fun. The right Tamiya paints to use, i have x-11 chrome silver xf-16 flat aluminum x-10 gunmetal Not sure what one is the "idealistic" one for the body, but im thinking that xf-59 desert yellow isnt yellow enough for the wings? I plan two build both versions of the kit,, land and float plane.
  13. the propeller didnt look right to me.. however im not that concerned with it to be honest. This version is to break the ground, get used to building something in segments that need painting before final assembly. Personally im not that worried on it.
  14. the airfix kit i have in hand has delicate holes for inserting parts into. Robust is always better, but overall kit quality is what counts in a larger scale.
  15. it really is a nice plane. I know ill have fun building the airfix reissue, even though i have no plans to do the rigging on this one. ebay will be the place i guess, even special hobby is hitting 3 digit numbers on amazon...
  16. all im coming up with a smer kit for 24$ plus 16 or 50 for shipping,,,, id like it but not at that price.
  17. starting a bulldog, and am trying to find a larger scale 1:48 or 1:72 have seen mentions of a zmeda kit and a no brand kit but no one actually has other then original airfix kits for sale. Is there any luck of finding something
  18. dont believe what they say these days... never could really, But as far as that F35 going, the current government is how shall we say, more in line with the RED countries then they are with the Blue countries in terms of plitical feeling.
  19. Patent laws and copy right issues lead to a lot of creativity. There are alot of small engines being "rediscovered" due to patents and copyrights finally entering the "creator has been dead for x amount of decades now".
  20. leads ill have to go after to see whats what with them. Nice ideas, and some of the older tractors were interesting as well as suited for the truly suicidal.
  21. how did you guys get the sides onto the bottom strip? ive discovered on mine that although there is no flash on the sides, the sides of that wall behind the seat is NOT correctly molded, and as i cannot remove it vis a vis, its glue in too well, that a big bump is formed at that spot and the gap is horrid... and the whole thing looks like crap ... and as the stupid engineers didnt design correctly dimensioned pins to isnert into the holes, the sides cannot be glued together seperately seriously.. who decides a .4mm pin to slide into a 1mm hole...
  22. yeah what every infantry man wants to see,,,, sand bag side armor... in what appears to be hefty bags...
  23. i ended up with a 47db zeny aircompressor on amazon tha dr strangebrush recommended to me. Have had issues with it only in the fitting on the tank is not the same thread as the included regulator/water trap uses.. so it leaks no matter what i do with the regulator. But i havent actually had the time to use the airbrush as well TIME is not fun for me at moment. The compressor is NOT very loud, and is more of a pffftt pffft sound as it operates. But it does get to me after a short time. sound frequency.
  24. i brushed up my pilots chair with the black, it looked good, tonight afer 24 hours it could have used a second coat in spots.. but i skipped that process as i can barely SEE the pilot chair completely.. But that black created such a nice rich brown for the abelung burnt umber ive decided to use as a leather color for NOW...
  25. I havent painted anything in a very long time, and that was a mailbox. WHy does Tamiya acrylic have an ammonia smell to it? Is that why Windex original with ammonia remove 24 hour old tamiya paint from plastic and popsicle stick? I have used two so far xf1 black and xf-25 the xf 25 was like coffee creamer after stirring, and the black was basically koolaid before, during, and after mixing it up. Is this a typical variation for acrylic paint of a quality modelling brand?
