  1. One of the greatest issues I encounter is the reliability of restored planes. For example: the fuel gauge of the tank behind the pilot. I've seen a picture where it is all black (the little pole on which it is mounted), yet another one shows a bracket around it. How can you be sure which is the correct one? The instructions state this little pole (and the bracket on which the radio and battery are mounted) should be Yellow Zinc Chromate.
  2. Finished the engine yesterday. A kit in it self, though you wouldn't say so. The engine alone takes up 4 pages of of the manual. Even the pistons are included! Work has started on the cockpit...
  3. The Mixed NMF/Green as per box art it will be... The Engine is nearly ready (will post picture of finished product shortly) and I cut off the first parts and put on some primer for the cockpit...
  4. Hm... Zoukei-Mura suggests lime green as colour for the metal parts like spars, motor mount, etc. Looks nice on the pics, but wouldn't be Yellow Zinc Chromate be more appropriate?
  5. Lol. Thanks, I'll do my best.
  6. Not really sure. I most certainly want to have it partially showing the interior I think half closed up.
  7. Now that my 1:48 Hasegawa is well underway and approaching the final paint stage (primer is on, preparing the front cowling and spinner to have their colors), and I enjoyed this kit so much, I decided to add a larger scale Pony to my collection: the 1:32 Zoukei-Mura P51-D . An awesome kit with full interior. It really screams to be build. Ordered extra wheels, barrels and seatbelts. There are other sets available, but these together will more than double the kit price, so I will mak do with what is in the box and the 3 add ons. I hope I can finish it before the group build ends... Oh well, I'll see.
  8. Thank you very much for the compliments, gentlemen! I really appreciate this.
  9. My only finished project: a German/Alsacian railway station, 1942. A German BR-52 steam engine (1:35 Trumpeter) waiting for the signal to continue it's journey, while the passengers are waiting for their own train(s) to arrive....
  10. Thank you very much... That does mean however that I have to repaint it (went for yellow) while the cockpit is already mounted in the starboard halve of the fuselage 😕 Oh well... The life of a modeller...
  11. Great work on this ancient kit... It is thus old, that it makes my Hasegawa kit looks like brand new
  12. Well, it actually comes from a modelling site: https://www.themodellingnews.com/2017/04/build-guide-ptiii-gary-seals-and-shines.html
  13. After some idling, I finally picked up the modelling of this kit once more. I started painting and assembling the cockpit. Hasegawa, in all their wisdom, added a kind of cushion to the seat. The only thing I could imagine it to be (since the pilots sat on their parachutes, was that it might be a liferaft, and therefore I painted it yellow, toning the bright color down with black oilpaint. \
  14. Okay. The Hasegawa kit has one, in the back and I've seen some yellow painted yellow. 🤔
  15. Anyone got definite info about the color of the cushions in the seat?
  16. Someone got time on his hands... No, really Paul, great work!
  17. Some nice painiting guides in different Alclad colors: https://www.themodellingnews.com/2017/04/build-guide-ptiii-gary-seals-and-shines.html
  18. I found this one: Seems accurate to me?
  19. Hi Bruce, I like details, so no worries about being bogged down... Since the build will be OOB, the magic will need to be done by the paint Therefore the need to paint different parts differently, is what will make the different. I hope the decals will hold out, but I intend to use the one on the box art, since I find that one the most appealing...
  20. Allright, if I understand correctly, the wings where also doped?
  21. Merci Patrice, I certainly will. As I will build OOB, the challenge will be in the painting. It is rather difficult to tell which parts will be what color. Some black and white pictures suggest that at least the rudder is a different kind of aluminium color than the fuselage. I could not find any decisive indication however... Regards, Erwin
  22. Thanks... I'll do my best to finish it within the time frame, but I am not the most speedy builder 😐 No problem. A belated welcome is better than none
  23. With my current project coming to an end, I dug up an older kit from my stash. On "order" from she who must be obeyed, I chose the Hasegawa P-51D Mustang "Nose Art". An oldie. Upon opening the box, I discovered that I already started it (not too much though ). But the instructions are missing the blue print on the inside. Since there was no internet then (yes, it is that old), I couldn't proceed then. Started to lay down the green interior layer and the zinc yellow wheel wells. Not sure about the decals, though. What is the quality and how will they hold after all these years? Upon invitation, I decided to add to the Group Build too...
