  1. That looks amazing. What an interesting colour scheme. Simply beautiful. How did the kit go together? This is in the stash for me... Andy
  2. Wow. That looks beautiful. I hope mine comes out 1/4 as good as that. Lovely painting Andy
  3. That is some of the most beautiful modelling I have ever laid eyes on - AMAZING WORK! Andy
  4. That's what I'll do Davec. It's definitely worth a try, but like you say, weathering would be kept to a minimum and she would have been kept beautiful no doubt. Tony, Ident Green came from ebay on recommendation of great bloke on this very forum. It was a one off from what I can tell, but I intend to find more now. It is DBI Authentic Ident Green CB28. It's brand new (this particular pot) so there must be a few floating around. If I see another I'll get you it and post it to you as a pressy! The SS Hunter decals would for sure be better and I fully intend to use them if I re-decal this model. There is indeed a black ring around the roundel and they didn't go down at all well, unlike the Xtradecals which were a dream. Should have done the black version. More in my skill range.
  5. Thanks Davec for the moral support The camera tells fibs, and under artificial lighting she looks different still. It's hard to describe, but she looks too toy like in real life. The green I mixed looks ok, but the Ident Green has a more authentic look which is hard to describe unless you see it. To respray or not respray...that is the question. Plus I don't know about those decals. I flattened the surface with 12000 grit and thought it was smooth enough. I'm not skilled enough yet to create the standard of model which I can see in my head. It's so frustrating. Cheers though, Andy
  6. Well, I coated with Klear and tried some decals and now I'm not happy with the colour or the decals. The green is still too green. Too emerald and bright. But on a positive note my DBI Authentic Ident Green CB28 arrived today and it looks perfect I think. It is an enamel so my only concern is that it will go down over the acrylics I have sprayed, but they are fully dry so it should be ok I think. The Trumpeter roundels are poor in my opinion. They are almost translucent on the white, so I will have to reapply these after repainting. Also one broke up under microsol and they just aren't...right. Here is where I am at now... Here is the Ident Green in comparison: Here we go again...
  7. Totally agree with your choice of colour on the swatches. Looks very very close. The decals are on the senior service hunter scheme from model alliance. What do you think? Andy
  8. I have toned down the green to what I think Emerald green should look like for the purposes of this project. I mixed Humbrol 2 Emerald Green with Humbrol Rail Colours RC405 (GWR/BR Green) and RC410. (Maunsell Green) I used RC410 in about twice the quantity of RC405 until I got the mix to match the warpaint photograph. As discussed I aimed for the tail colour as opposed to the fuselage. To my eyes it looks very close (in real life) though I'm not sure the photos demonstrate this. Unfortunately, some of the delicate white underside lifted on removal of masking tape, so these areas will be re airbrushed. Thats it for now. Andy
  9. Yeah, but mine's greener! hopefully these new options will clear up the dilemma. More pics soon.
  10. Wow Tony. That's typical isn't it? Looks like yours is coming along nicely. It's odd. My gut instinct was that Emerald Green was wrong for this model, and I went around the houses trying all the other shades to see what worked. I tried traditional naval shades, rail shades from the humbrol rail catalogue and alas gave up, since several other guys thought Emerald green was the way to go. Believe me, it is not Humbrol Acrylic Emerald green - and thats the thing: Emerald Green in one brand is not the same as another It is marginally bright however. The aircraft may be described as emerald green, but not THAT emerald green. I agree completely with you about how the light falls on the picture in warpaint and specifically, the tail. I have checked out Railmatch Sherwood Green, GWR Post 1928 Green and SR Malachite Green and on face value, it could be any of them. I'll order them and paint some samples; see what looks correct. To be honest I hadn't heard of these before. I also agree about 105 - it somehow looks...right! I'll see if I can get it in an acrylic. I am really pleased to see your Seahawk. Good luck mate and keep us informed of the progress. BTW: What decals are you using? I have hannants black and white navy/ raf letters and numbers, the original seahawk roundels and admirals barge flags from a Model Alliance Hunter sheet which has an admiral's barge scheme. regards Andy
  11. OH MY GOSH! Humbrol Acrylic Emerald Green 2 - I've created frankenstein's green monster! Yes - it looks this awful in real life. Beauty would really have to be in the eye of the beholder. Plan B - toning down This is now a vivid undercoat, post radioactive nightmare. It was strange; I couldn't stop painting...I thought it would get better. AHHH Emerald Shmemerald... :shithappens: ha ha! Cue Revell Acrylics and anything else I can find.
  12. Amazing - great subject. Really well done!
  13. I hope that when I build mine it looks just as fantastic!
  14. Thanks guys. I'll check those out. I'm not being antagonistic in any way and I really appreciate your views. I would not dream of knocking anyone else's opinions and choices. I certainly agree that it is closer to emerald green and I'll try the gloy or compucolor avenues. Photographs are very hard to match. I just wanted to really open this discussion up since I cannot find it detailed anywhere else and hope that this helps anyone else who fancies this scheme from wasting hours pondering like I have. Actually, it's insignificant of course in the scheme of things. All of the above models to my eye look wonderful. All comments sincerely appreciated. Andy
  15. Yes Roys - it is beautiful. I'm certainly not knocking it, it's just that the colour does not seem to agree with the Royal Navy references I have seen. It looks a wonderful model nevertheless. (If indeed your comment refers to the vampire.)
  16. Bottom picture: It's hard to believe the Royal Navy used this colour though I suspect it looks a completely different shade in real life, such are photographs. (Pretty none the less)
  17. This is more like it I think... Humbrol 105 - Matt Marine Green Seems more 'Navy' to my eye. Personal crusade continues...
  18. Brilliant - thanks for those comments. Roys - I take it the model art sheet is 1/72. Gloss Emerald Green. (That is BS381c: 228 I believe.) The BS381c: 640 to which you refer is Extra Dark Sea Grey. Do you have a pic of these decals - I cannot locate them online. I will post a pic of my colour dilemma from the warpaint reference and you will sea what I mean...but that's great. I'm sure that model art would have done their homework. Davec24 - I guess I'll go with white for the gear bay now I'm certain to try the admirals barge scheme and yes, the baffles will be done in the topside colour; whatever it blooming is. Gentlemen, if you don't mind, bearing in mind everything that has been discussed about which hue of green is correct, cast your eyes over these to pics. Both from warpaint although one sourced from Ray Sturtivant. The colour is referred to as Flag Officer Green. Which one do you think it is. In summary from what I have found out: Flag Officer Green - Not a real colour from what I can tell. I would like to be proved wrong. Emerald Green - According to Humbrol and Model Art. Based on which reference I would love to know. I guess the photo below looks a bit emerald-ish but colours deteriorate in photos and this one almost looks filtered to me. Brunswick Green lightened with a little white - According to a leading model review and magazine contributor. Middle Chrome Green & Middle Bronze Green - Both BS colours, popular at time of actual aircraft and historically accurate for admiral barge vessels. (White ensign models) Lincoln Green - The nearest green I can find to the supposed flag officer green in BD colours. or this green whatever it may be - looks a bit bronze/ olive to me... http://www.nazcastudios.com/sea-hawk/repai...6-repaints.html Someone must know...the warpaint profile and the FS2004 are definitely not emerald green so where did these references originate??? Cheers Andy
  19. Hi and thanks. It's just an airbrush stand from obeeliks website. Makes life a little easier. Idea is that you can plug two brushes in at once but I don't use that feature. Regards Andy
  20. One of my favourites, nicely done. I also have this, but I also wish I had it in 1/48. The classic airframes ones didn't hang around long and now seem to go for over fifty squid if you can even find one. Interesting about the ejection seats! Regards Andy
