  1. He is serious. A don't call him Shirley. 🤣🤣🤣
  2. Wow, Just need the Popeye decals from the old Airfix kit upscaled if/when it comes!!!
  3. It's a Junkers Ju 290 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Junkers_Ju_290 Sadly, no one produces a 1/48 kit!!! 😀
  4. I liked the lateral thinking in using a pencil to fill in the crane and catapult.
  5. Thanks again for your comments. Yup, X certainly looks G10. Interestingly, perhaps due to the angle, the secondary armarment barrels look 507C overall, although it's probably just white countershading. Once again, thanks for your help - time to get some paint on her!
  6. Hi. So I've done a bit of research for my Ukranian Su-27 by looking at kit instructions, photos and sets offered by manufacturers. The below info may not be 100% accurate but is close enough for me anyway. The scheme I painted was the splinter pattern in the GWH 1/48 kit https://www.scalemates.com/products/img/9/4/3/1291943-17-instructions.pdf I use vallejo model air, so have put the paint numbers in () Hope it helps. Splinter Upper Surface Dark Blue - FS35250 (approx 71089 ) Splinter Upper Surface Grey - FS36373 (71339) Splinter Upper and Lower Surface light Blue - FS35466 (approx 71332)
  7. Thanks so much for coming back, it's really appreciated by a naval newbie such as myself. Firstly, that IWM photo solves most of the mystery for me re: the port side. As for the funnel - I did wonder about that but assumed is was a trick of the light given the line seems to be where the curved front end of funnel joins the side. However, looking at the IWM photo again, I agree, the funnel does look darker - especially in comparison to the 507C on the hangar sides. This of course begs the question, what colour is it? Given the combo of B15, 507A/G10 and 507C, I am assuming it would be one of the 1943 onwards colours that is a bit lighter than B15. So I am thinking either B20 or B30 (with my preference being B30 - as it is very light in the Plymouth Sound photo). I've ruled out B55 as given what I've learned from yourself and others here, I think B55 would/should be lighter than 507C. Also, I discounted G20 as the other colours are 'bluish' in nature, so B20/30 seem to be a better 'fit'. Cheers
  8. Thanks for coming back on this. I've managed to find a couple of other photos which may or may not clarify/muddy things further. So first up is a poor quality shot of her port side. Its A & B turrets and the hull beneth that pop out as being a different tone (not withstanding the light angles), although I would expect the hull to be darker, not lighter. Now the next one is hopefully a bit clearer - Again taking the light in to consideration, the bridge and rear hull do look lighter. The side of the lower section of the bridge superstructure (to my eye) does look lighter than the G10/507A on the B turret area and lower hull beneth. Cheers Kirk
  9. Hi All - just resurrecting this thread (can of worms) as I'm just starting to paint my QE. As per the images kindly shared by @dickrd , I'm going with the 1943-44 colour scheme of 507c, B15 and 507A/G10. Whilst the 507C is easy enough to see, my question now, is what are the best guesses as to which dark colour is which?, After studying images, I've come up with the following thoughts . For starboard I am thinking, from bow to stern - a. Hull first 3 dark sections G10/507A b. 2 sections under Y turret B15 c. B turret, its barbette and the nearby superstructure - G10/507A d. Section of colour on bridge superstructure, moving as band upwards from aft to bow (this can be seen in other pics)- B15 e. Rear superstructure, X barbette and rear 2 secondary turrets - G10/507A (see below) f. X and Y turrets - B15 g. Main turret roofs - either deck grey or G10/507A All the above broadly matches a colour profile in my British Battleships book by RA Burt (although he goes with B15 for the lower part of the aft superstructure, aft 2 secondaries and X barbette) Now port is more problematic as there's not a lot of difference in the tone, so I'm really guessing here. Again from bow to stern - a. First two dark segments on hull - B15 (i've seen other images where these sections look lighter than the image below - but I can't find them again. Typical!!!) b. Rear segment - G10/507A (again in the other image I saw this was darker) c. A & B Turrets, B barbette, adjoining superstructure - B15 d. Rear superstructure and X barbette - G10/507A e. X & Y Turrets - G10/507A Any thoughts or suggestions gladly received! Although whatever happens, I think she will look quite nice with all that B15 on her.
  10. Hi All, So here is my Trumpy Cornwall in a camouflage scheme I found on the WW2 Cruisers website. Painted with Vallejo model air. My only additions were - 1. Wooden deck (forgot the make) from China, which included anchor chains. 2. Some spare p/e to add extra ladders and doors (the turrets are very bland). 3. Name plate from Signomatic 4. I drilled out all the portholes 5. I used Infini 1/32 medium for my little bit of rigging - so much easier than the stuff I used on my Warspite. 6. Modified the stand to make it fit better (by trimming the top flat, and laying the plastic name plate on top), drilled a couple of holes and glued in some pins. Overall a nice build (can't comment on the kits accuracy) with a couple of exceptions - 1. Trumpy p/e is so delicate that it bends if you look at it funny 2. The main wooden deck came in two halves which left a 1mm gap (fortunately mostly covered by the midship superstructure). I has some spare individal planks which I laid down to cover it. 3. I managed to lose the davits for the large midship lifeboats 🤬 Cheers
  11. Clearly it will be a 1/48 Sunderland, There is no need for any further conjecture.
  12. Not sure if this has been mentioned, but on ICM's website the marking options are listed (no images though) - MARKINGS B-26B-55MA 42-96077 "Ladies Delight", 584th Bomb Squadron, 394th Bomb Group, Summer 1944 B-26B-55MA 42-96214 "Coral Princess III", 494th Bomb Squadron, 344th Bomb Group, 1944 B-26B-55MA 42-96165 "The Big Hairy Bird", 599th Bomb Squadron, 397th Bomb Group, July 1944
  13. Like yourself, Ive just dipped my toe in to 1/350 ships and POW may be on my horizon. With regards to Micromaster, I've bought some bits and bobs from them, mainly gun directors, which are superb and are so much easier to use than pe. The postage to UK was about £18 (I think they sort out VAT etc at their end). If you buy some of their stuff, get a couple of sets as the postage stays about the same. Also, whilst I'm not sure how accurate they are, Eduard do a couple of pe for POW which look useful, the one set dresses up the vents and boxes on deck and has some nice bits for the primary and secondary turrets. The second set supplies railings and most importantly (IMHO) replacement cranes. Both sets are reasonably cheap (I'm a Eduard BFC member, so get another 15% off) in comparison to others. Finally, try evilbay for a wooden deck if you fancy one of them. I got ones for Warspite, QE and Cornwall all for around £20 - some of them have decks for the small boats as well.
  14. Hi, I'm not an expert, but my understanding has always been that the V was blue, but I stand to be corrected.
