Starfire Saga, episode 2
phat trev replied to PATRICK FROM THE SANDS's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
What a beautiful build! The Emhar version looks incredible too, have you any close up photos of your open nose bay. -
The answer is I have the Fujimi kit and a friend has offered me an Airfix GR1/1a boxing. Non to sure if the Fujimi version was any good, but the detailing looks nice and well molded and scope for adding more (I also now have an old Airwaves Sea Harrier etch fret) That advise and comparison is very useful, thank you @72modeler

Is there a reference anywhere that might list these updated Spitfires to MkVa standard? Really struggling to find good records for schemes for a 1/72 Airfix build looking for RAF or USAF flown/ marked examples.
-
Just opening this up again to ask if some Spitfire Va's had coffman starter bulges? if so might have been converted IIa Spitfires perhaps?
-
Just opening this chat up again, wondering if anyone knew of any photos of the Spitfire Mk Va in USAAF markings, or any other 'different' finishes to the regular D-B Bader published pics and details, etc.

Superb build and love the Super Hornet/Legacy Hornet photo at the end. I have the 1/72 Academy F-18A which looks to be the same kit, reboxed and some different sprues to make the earlier versions and CF-118? to build some day but I am sure it would not look as good as your finish.

but not finished...

These old Esci kits are enjoyable for sure. I have built the Matilda and a few others as a non-amour modeler they offer a change from a set of wings. Your Churchill tidy-up looks great, following with interest 😁

the addition of stretched sprue is a good technique. once these wings are together secure it will be easier to see where the DIY material will need to go, and separating the wings for folding, this means the rest of the build can continue while I recover the leading edges. thanks for the hints all.
-
Looking for a bit of inspiration and guidance.. Building a 1/72 Valom TBD Devastator and having carefully removed the wing parts from their sprue, I am faced with cleaning up the top and bottom leading edges, in an attempt to save as much of or reinstate the 'corrugated' skins that wrap around the leading edge of the aircraft. Guessing the same or similar issue exists building other manufacturers examples too do good to hear any hints on how others have dealt with this in their builds? cheers

cheers all. those plan links look interesting will certainly look at those. The Tamiya Bogue will be a basis for a Royal Navy conversion after reading a bit more into things. Not going to be super stressed about 100% accuracy but wanting by to identify the main differences vs the orginal kit, what turrets to remove or to add, Island detail updates needed, hanger doors open whilst at sea etc would add interest. Also going to add some interesting in combat use weathering to the hull, deck and include some kind of animated story happening on deck. A Hellcat coming into land, weapons, fuel tanks and realistic number of crew on deck, I have seen etch crews in 1/700 which look interesting 👀 First time building any kind of ship (aircraft builder here) so excited to try something new. Bring a waterline ship a base will have to be made at some point too.

Would anyone know if 1/700 Tamiya WW2 USN fighters can be purchased seperatly here in the UK? I would like to add to the few Avengers and Hellcats supplied with the Tamiya USS Bogue. Also. Looking for photos or plans/sketches of the below deck hangerage onboard the wartime Escort Carriers. cheers PT

Tips for building 1:72 Pegasus biplanes?
phat trev replied to phat trev's topic in Aircraft Interwar
love that I started this post in 2017...2025 and I have decided to reopen the pegasus Gamecock. Wing parts have been sanded, finished and look good and that's it. Also, have discovered it needs engine parts. Here goes again.
