  1. Building the the interior of a 1/72 Armourfast Achilles tank destroyer (great basis for some scratch building) but unsure how large the rounds need to be. Hoping to make a number of them from old sprue, sharpened at each end. I have a load of photos from builds found online so have an idea of sizing from them at least.
  2. Thanks. Just reading into the type more, it might be the Ju-87D that I need to look into for as a conversion (larger wing type)
  3. I have an Academy 1/72 Academy Ju-87d-3 cannon vogel) but wanting to make a desert/tropical based machine. What versions could I use this kit as a basis, with added scratch building, can be made?
  4. Best wishes Paul and hope it clears and the medical team can discover what's up!
  5. Use a wooden toothpick (picks) to scrape away the bled paint. Do this with care and spend a bit of time on it and the finish should, I hope look perfect. You could even dip the canopy in gloss varnish or similar once done and this should restore and light scratches caused by the wood.
  6. Same, I am starting a 1/72 B-25 and noticed lap belts were used. I have only seen shoulder belts used on modern build aircraft.
  7. Any tips how to scratch build parts to make sure the wings stand at an angle when folded, I would rather like to do this to either my Academy F4U-1 or Revell Korean war F4U-4 to show off the rockets and some heavy weathering.
  8. Ok thanks, some great insights, especially in regards to the length differences. Might decide on a late war A. Wanting it as clean as possible as I like the look of the Fw190A. I have an academy Dora to make as well so the two builds would complement each other eventually?
  9. Considering backdating the 'new' tool Airfix Fw190 A8 to show an earlier A version. A-3 or A-4. I do like the idea of removing the wing guns altogether as reading an Ipms Stockholm article it suggests a lighter bomber intercepter version was used. What other good references might be worth considering to backdate the Airfix kit?
  10. Have been considering that, looks good. Might look for an online pdf version.
  11. Thanks for the post on this guys, just picking this FJ-4B project up after a few years 🙄
  12. Really great reading thanks all. Found an Eduard M4a3 profipack with etch parts so this will provide some extra parts to enhance the Armourfast M36 alongside scratchbuilding where needed. The M36 box I have comes with 2 examples of the same tank destroyer so might open up some hatches for some extra detail opportunities (albeit on a small scale!)
  13. Just reawakening this post from earlier in the year while looking again at detailing the PM kit. Wondering if any Kansans used as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan? I have not found any reference so far but I guess the Avro Anson were the main RAF choice over aircraft like the AT-11 Kansan (if there was such a choice at the time). Can picture a few going over the boarder into Canada as lend-lease, painted in yellow or hhs and yellow training flashes (probably an official name for such a scheme). Use of the Kansan in the Arnold scheme may be more likely perhaps but again I cannot find records.
  14. Cheers @klr@klr this is all excellent knowledge. After the above then yes I will look to use some relevant parts from the Hasegawa Grant and see where I get to. I am building a Mirage kit of the Grant alongside this anyway so it will be good to put hthe older model into good use and those horrid tracks will i am sure pose an interesting issue to solve... Thanks for the link too.
  15. I have a 1/72 Armourfast (war gaming) M36 Jackson kit which I am wanting to upgrade into more or acutate or certainly detailed model. Learning a bit more about the M36 since its purchase, it seems that the chassis was used from M4A1 Sherman at the time, or certainly similar.. (excuse my lack of knowledge on vehicle subjects as I am an avaiation builder usually). I have the 'new' 1/72 Sherman Firefly and an of 1/72 Hasegawa Easy Eight in the pile as well as parts of an old Hasegawa Grant. Would any of these have parts that could be used to embellish the M36? If not what might be a good kit to find and use.
  16. What a super project, used to love playing bood bowl so pleased to see it coming back. Use of the Danish kits is fun (expecting Danepak bacon as a sponsor.. 😋). 🏈🇩🇰
  17. Thanks for this amazing knowledge, sorry for the incorrect detail on my original post, I am not too clued up on all things armour history but learning here and there, mostly via modelling various tanks. 🍻
  18. Did the US Army use the 'British' Grant tank, if so which units and where- MTO, PTO? I have found some images online of a few M3A5 Grant with the US Star on the side, these are captioned as belonging to a training unit and a single artwork of a green M3A5 captioned as Burma, C Squadron 3rd Carabiners which might be interesting. Looking for something different to finish a 1/72 Mirage Grant build.
  19. The 1/72 Academy Razorback D is currently on my bench and started, a very good and well detailed model Thunderbolt, recessed detail across all parts and a detailed cockpit in this scale.I think it is a good alternative to the Tamiya really. I also have the Hobbyboss bubble top in 1/72 and this is again just as detailed but needs tlc to recreate a cockpit (same goes for the Hobbyboss razorback it looks like). The cowl needs some air scoop parts added inside to be correct. Have not started this one yet but both with be PTO fighters. The Revell Bubble top versions D and M look like they provide some good spare parts that I have used to add more detail into the Academy kit. I think the U/C legs might be slightly too short (Revell) and long on the Academy but that is an easy fix for both.
  20. Looks like swapping the forward fuselage for the Revell parts would work, not to much surgery needed. As for a date, I have parts only for a long barrelled gun (I think) so will be reading up when these were first introduced and used during the conflict.
  21. Sorry to read this Paul but hope you enjoy the gliding of course!!
