Seahawk Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 I've been having a footle with the new Airfix Bf 110. In addition to the points made in http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=53154 the vast, semi-bathtub-shaped rear gunner's seat looks seriously overscale to me - or at least designed for a pair of Goering-sized buttocks. Luftwaffe is not really my subject so can any of the experts comment on whether it's accurate in size and shape please? I've been unable to find anything helpful in the Ian Allen Bf 110 At War, Squadron Signal 30 Bf 110 Zerstoerer in Action or Les Whitehouse's series of articles in the old Almark "Modelworld" magazine. Also, given the mismatch between the rear of the engine cowling and the front of the nacelle, is it more accurate to file down the first or build up the second? TIA
FalkeEins Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 (edited) looks OK-ish IMHO. It's the part just forward of that - the one that looks a bit like a display cabinet - that makes me smile.. as for the second question - I went for filing down the front of the mount.. have to say I'm not really enjoying this one.. although overall its a pretty decent package another helpful handbook illustration as reproduced in the Classic Pubs Vasco/Estanislau book Edited August 30, 2010 by FalkeEins
Dave Fleming Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 So pt 21D and the rear gunners seat are transposed?
FalkeEins Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 no, I was just commenting on it's total failure to capture the jump-seat type arrangement of the real thing

Two really useful photos: many thanks. At least the seat's shape is right. I might still reduce it in size a bit: it looks a bit ridiculous compared with the pilot's seat. Your pics suggest also Airfix got the layout of the cannon magazines wrong: more en echelon than in a V. I read the 2 lead ones to be on the cannons (and hence presumably either side of the centreline) and the aftermost to be one of the 4 reloads. What do others think?
FalkeEins Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 some additional magazines for those bare cockpit walls would have been nice - have to scratch them. there should also be a couple of slots in the fuselage floor for the spent casings ..just visible in that handbook illustration
