487 Squadron Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 (edited) OoB, but I've replaced the kit prop with the rotol blades and backplate from an Airfix 1/24 Spitfire Vb and a slightly reshaped the 1a DH spinner to get a more accurately sized prop for the hurricane. I've left this one 'clean' - probably not quite accurate, but I like the way it looks. Edited August 15, 2010 by 487 Squadron
T-Tango Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Lovely job, nice paint finish, a bit of weathering would really bring it to life.
daz greenwood Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Very nice you can never see enough Hurricane's. And I like Gleed's markings.
Nick Belbin Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Agreed – very nice finish. Maybe a stupid question but does it have seatbelts? Nick
487 Squadron Posted August 15, 2010 Author Posted August 15, 2010 Not yet - I'm still trying to work out what the bits moulded onto the seat are (and if I need to remove them), and how the seatbelts attach behind the seat. Also, does anyone know if the seat had some sort of cushion?
T-Tango Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Also, does anyone know if the seat had some sort of cushion? I could be wrong, but I think they sat on their parachutes.
atdb27 Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 does anyone know if the seat had some sort of cushion? The RAF ones did. In MDF 2 on the Hurricane a pic shows a ribbed fore and aft pattern in dk brown leather one fitted to a Mk1. It also quotes and shows a pic that Canadian a/c didn't have a cushion! Adrian
Tin_Bitz Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Hey Nice build! I'm building the same aircraft in 1/48. My instructions are all wrong though and am trying to find the correct colour for the red spinner. What paint did you use for it may I ask for this? Does anyone else know by any chance? I've mostly been using the Tamiya Acrylics but if I have to use another paint I'd be more than happy to get the right colour. Cheers
487 Squadron Posted September 26, 2010 Author Posted September 26, 2010 Hi there - I couldn't actually find anything definitive so made the bold assumption that the red spinner would have been a colour similar to the roundel red, so used a mix of Tamiya Matt Red (XF-7?) and Tamiya Red Brown (XF-64?) - about 5:1 - to match the decals.
Tin_Bitz Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Hi Thanks for the information, going to sit down and try the two colours out and hope to get a similar result with it. I tried mixing a load of different reds/browns earlier but didn't get the desired results... Cheers
