crookedmouth Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Finished in Oblt Dortenmann's colours, the build thread is here . This has to be my most enjoyed build so far. Dunno why - that it turned out as well as this may be part of it - but it's a gorgeous kit.
_H_ Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Lovely Dora! You've made a nice job of that mate. REALLY REALLY want this kit and for some reason it's reminded me of Pierre Clostermann's book the Big Show! Must dig that out Howard
FalkeEins Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 ..a particularly effective looking finish ..great job ! what happened to the tail wheel though ?
crookedmouth Posted April 17, 2010 Author Posted April 17, 2010 ..a particularly effective looking finish ..great job ! what happened to the tail wheel though ? I originally planned to builde her wheels up, so I recessed the tail whee. However, I found that the main gear doors don't fit the wells, so I changed tack & modelled it gear down, but couldn't rectify the tail wheel. Maybe the pilot's got a lot of luggage in the rear fuselage? Lovely Dora! You've made a nice job of that mate.REALLY REALLY want this kit and for some reason it's reminded me of Pierre Clostermann's book the Big Show! Must dig that out Howard Thanks for the praise everyone. H - is it a good book?
FalkeEins Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 (edited) H - is it a good book? ..has always been one of the best WWII pilot memoirs out there - well worth ordering from your local library. Very readable - not always strictly accurate historically though. Like most things nowadays his record has undergone quite a severe reappraisal with his 30-odd victory claims now barely amounting to 10-15 'confirmed' victories according to which French historian you care to read. As a Chevalier da la Légion d'Honneur his memory was/is as venerated in France as, say, Johnson/Bader's is here. He defended his record to the end...he even wrote into SAM in 2000 to rebutt a rather critical reader's letter... Edited April 17, 2010 by FalkeEins
_H_ Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 I didn't realise there was question over his alledged victories. The book itself is fantastic in my opinion and I really couldn't put it down. I think it's only about 4 quid these days aswell. I defy anyone that reads it and doesn't want to build a Dora or a Tempest!! Howard
crookedmouth Posted April 18, 2010 Author Posted April 18, 2010 Well, it's on my Amazon wishlist, so if anyone feels generous...
crookedmouth Posted April 25, 2010 Author Posted April 25, 2010 only word that comes to mind is....wow Cheers matey - we going to see your work sometime soon?
