1/350 Etch detail sets from Hasegawa

If the detail found in the box of the IJN Agano wasn't enough, then you can always buy the additional etch sets that Hasegawa have released. There are three sets, unusually called C, D and a Super Set.

Set C provides the ships main railings which are very nicely done in the classic Japanese style.

Set D gives you parts for the crane, ladders, radar, numerous gratings, superstructure supports and railings for the upperworks, and the inticrate funnel cap.

Finally the Super Detail set provides the modeller a chance to really go to town on the detail with a complete replacement for the storage/flight deck and it's supporting structure, including the minutae braces and trusses for underneath the deck. A new, very well detailed catapult is also included along with the floatplane support trolleys. For the ships boats, replacement stands and smaller details, including oars have been provided. Completing the set are six turned brass barrels for the main armament and a brass nameplate, (in Japanese).

Whilst these sets can make a big improvement in the detail levels of the model, I would have prefered them to be included within the original release, rather than having to spend, what is, a lot of extra money to get the model I want. Perhaps Hasegawa could start looking at what Dragon are doing and providing at least the majority of etched parts with their next releases.
