palacefan Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 I havn't recieved it in the post yet but i will be making the airfix 1:72 scorpion, hopefully RAF regiment. I dont make many targets but the few airfix ones i have made have not been too hot. Saying that, i have seen fantastic finished models on here, ones that i have made rubbish and blamed it on the kit. Time to pull my socks up i think, like Chris Accabusee (spelling?) says: "Get in, get the f***ing job done, and f*** off!!!!" Wayne
seanrgb Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Welcome to the GB Wayne .... looking forward to seeing this
AnonymousA667 Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 I have one of these stashed, it looks very nice on the sprue, also I am informed it is a good build. peebeep
Mandrake Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Basic but nice kit, just watch out for the tracks because on my example they were abit short and kept snapping!
Mandrake Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 (edited) Is it me or does the box art look like a Scimitar ? Now tank expert but I thought the boxart was of a Scorpion however the contents does allow for a Schitar if I'm not mistaken. Edited July 10, 2007 by Mandrake
AnonymousA667 Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 the contents does allow for a Schitar if I'm not mistaken. That must be why the RAF calls them brown jobs! The box art shows a Scorpion, but there are optional bits for a Scimitar inside. peebeep
thx6667 Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Is it me or does the box art look like a Scimitar ? That kit include options for both. The only real gaff is that the light arrangement on the front is for one of the early prototypes. Back around 84/85 there used to be a little el cheapo shop near the bus station in town and they used to have baskets full of Scorpion tank sprues, not boxes, instructions or decals, possibility a job lot of mouldings someone acquired from the end of the Haldane Place era. They were selling them for 10p each at the time and I would buy a few with my loose change - in the end they were doing them two for 10p so I bought the lot! Ended up with 21 kits! Similarly they also had some Angel Interceptor sprues (which I also bagged) and the S-3A Viking, sprues, box, decals, complete kit for 50p!
Guest snipersmudge Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 ahh the old airfix scorpion, as a kid i built whole compays of these, smashing little kit, you can just feel the nostalgia!!!
palacefan Posted July 23, 2007 Author Posted July 23, 2007 It's here! god it's small, if only i amused myself in a more productive way as a teenager my eye sight may be up to the job. here we go, all the bits pic 2p for scale pic the tracks are too short, i think i will cut them into lengths and cover up the bodge with "mud"
seanrgb Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 flipping hell that is Tiny Well looking forward to the progress
palacefan Posted July 24, 2007 Author Posted July 24, 2007 This is where i have got to, if it wasnt for the tracks being too short it would have been finished in a day or two. this tank stuff is quite fun!
seanrgb Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 Not a bad looking kit ..... You might be able to hide the missing track under the front mudguard
palacefan Posted July 26, 2007 Author Posted July 26, 2007 This is one of the most enjoyable kits i have ever made! Apart from the tracks being too short, this has gone together perfectly. The detail may be a little absent but there is enough to make it look nice. i will put the finished model next to my revell Abrams to show the scale of this thing, it is so tiny I had to check the box to make sure they were both 1:72 here are some pics of it with the first two coats of paint.
