GTZIM
This is the 3rd plane included in the Hasegawa 1/48 "Pearl Harbor Attack" limited release. The other two planes in the kit were a B6N2 Kate and a D3A1 Val which I have already completed. B5N2 Kate: D3A1 Val: The Box and kits within: The A6M2 included in the kit is offered in the markings of EII-102 (Mobile Task Force over sky direct support unit from carrier Zuikaku) or AI-110 (Pearl Harbor 2nd Attack unit from carrier Akagi). I will be going with AI-110. Along with the Hasegawa kit, I also purchased Eduard detail set, Eduard seat belts, and Eduard mask. Rivet work complete: Cockpit cleaned up for paint and PE parts: Cockpit painted in Tamiya XF-71 Cockpit Green IJN: Next up will be addition of the cockpit PE parts followed by weathering.
Pajarito
Hi GTZIM, Nice work on these birds. What brand is the riveting tool you're using? <--- Incidentally; that Japanese pilot needs to lay off dainties urgently... 😆 Cheers, Igna

The tool I used is - HUBEST Model Rivet Maker Tool with Handle for Model Hobby Craft Building Accessories Tool(Set S4) a.co/d/a04Po28 There is various sizes to choose from depending on your scale. Yeah… Hasegawa likes em to be a bit on the thick side
GTZIM
Last night I was able to get the interior finished! Base coat: XF-71 (IJN Cockpit Green) Weathering: Oil paint - Black Dry Pigment - Soot, Green, Dirty rubble, Beach sand, Rust Dry Brush - XF-71 (IJN Cockpit green), XF-70 (Dark Green), XF-16 (Flat Aluminum) Tonight I plan on getting the fuselage glued up. Cheers!
GTZIM
Seem lines filled: Sanding complete. Engine and fuel tank assembled: Hasegawa doesn’t appear to care if bullets run into the engine cowl… This is just a dry fit of the engine cowl, but based on how it fits every where else, I think this was just an oversight on Hasegawa’s part. The plastic on this particular kit is rather thin and brittle, so I am a bit nervous to remedy the issue…. Other than that specific angle; you cannot tell:
Thom216
Hope you get the cowl figured out. The rest looks really good, from the 'pit to the riveting. And that last shot looks like a forced perspective shot, with a Zero flying above what looks to be a carrier/cruiser? 1
marvinneko
That is one wicked cockpit. Amazing work.
Keeff
Superb detail on the cockpit ... 👌 I hope a solution to the engine cowling problem apperas .... strange it was missed in design/production. Keith 😁
GTZIM
So... I remedied the cowling issue. I had to cut a section of the engine off which was preventing the cowl from going any lower: I applied metallic blue paint (Tamiya X-13) to sections of the gear flaps and inside the engine cowling: Lastly I applied Alclad aluminum to the prop, engine, landing gear, and a few other misc parts:

The ship in the background is a 1/350 Mogami from Tamiya.
Thom216
Glad you got the cowl sorted out. Which part did you have to cut? And I have that ship too! Currently in the pile of the Great Unbuilt. Edited January 3 by Thom216

GTZIM
I was able to get my primer on. Decided to go with black versus my normal gray to cut down on the need to pre-shade: Completed the engine. Painted it and placed wiring based on a reference photo I found:
Thom216
Nicely put together engine, and the cowl is black anyone, so cool there!
GTZIM
Apparently I forgot to add the lead cables to the spark plugs… I have added them here and decided to go with a dull yellow cable: I got the body, cowl, and fuel tank painted up: Thanks for taking the time to checkout my WIP! GTZIM
I got the gloss varnish on 2 days ago in preparation of decals. Last night I got all the decals on: It’s bitter sweet completing this step, as I have finally finished using all the decals from the giant decal sheet that was supplied for all 3 kits. Tonight I will apply another gloss varnish to reduce silvering and as a layer of protection before oil washes.
GTZIM
Last night I got my oil wash applied. I went with a burnt umber followed by a medium grey. For the engine cowl, I only used the medium grey since the burnt umber wouldn’t be pronounced: In addition to this kit, I am also painting 4 figures from Tamiya. I got the faces painted for the figurines. I feel accomplished for getting the eyes done. I had done eyes on 1/48 in the past and they turned out pretty crazy looking…. These seem much better especially since they haven’t even had a dark wash over them yet.
GTZIM
Thank you all! The A6M2 Zero is officially done! I have some glamour shots prepared, but won't have the shots on the carrier deck with all the figures and the B5N2 & D3A1 done until tomorrow at some point. Thanks everyone for following along, I appreciate all the input and interest over the coarse of this build. I will post my completed build tomorrow. Painted figures:
