  1. Greetings and salutations, It appears I’m on some kind of posting frenzy…it will be short lived as I am back to work tomorrow. Below are some pictures of a Minicraft DC4 that I built with the 70’s Qantas livery - my favourite QF scheme. Qantas flew them to regularly to Norfolk Island. I worked with a colleague who was an ex Flight Attendant during the 70’s and said they were fun to work on. Bumpy, and they leaked water which he said wasn’t so hilarious at the time. I can’t remember when I built this but it was soon after this kit and the Minicraft 727 kit appeared on the scene. I used Hawkeye decals and other bits and pieces from the decal box. I have more prop liners and decals for them in the cupboard but will wait until there are better cockpit and cabin windows decals available. I may replace this one as it’s not great but my build list is huge . I included a photo from an airline publicity scene that I always liked as a kid. A DC4, a B707 and a new B747 in the 70’s “Flying Kangaroo 🦘 “ scheme. I couldn’t resist doing my version of it. As always, thanks for viewing my models.🙏
  2. Howdy from humid Cairns Australia! I thought I would share my Revell B747-238 model in the Qantas 70’s scheme. I built a Qantas 707 and 747 at the same time thinking it would be a smart way to build, assembling , preparing, masking and painting together etc but It gets too complicated. I would rather be completely absorbed in 1 project to avoid mistakes and omissions along the way rather than stalling both projects to fix own goals. This kit is actually a -100. I used engines from the Welsh 747-SP kit as they had the correct pylons for a later build -200 which VH-EBM is. I built up a leading edge fillet on the horizontal stabilisers and filed off the obsolete antenna hump behind the upper deck. I built a APU which I just noticed is far to clean. I used some of the undercarriage parts from the Revell -400 kit as they seem to be the only good bits on that kit. Hawkeye decals were used , a painted cheat-line and I made some of my own decals particular to EBM, the crest and the “City of Parramatta “ tittles. I probably would have been better off doing what “Turbofan” did converting the Revell -800 kit in this livery, that build looks so good that it would probably be able to fly ✅✅✅. I intend to weather this kit among with some my other newer builds but want to admire them looking fresh and smart for a little longer. I will repost if they turn out ok. I am starting to stockpile kits for my golden years, I will redo this kit with 1 from Authentic Airliners along their -400ER version once the Office of War and Treasury approves the purchases. Thanks again for viewing. 🙏
  3. Hello Everyone, I thought I would show off my B707-338C build from Authentic Airliners which I completed last year. I travelled several times to and from Australia and the USA and also PER/SYD in the 70’s on these aircraft. A beautiful aircraft to fly in and gorgeous on the eyes . Great on the ears too! Also , as I have been working for this company for over 30 years now, I have started updating my model cave as a bit of a tribute to the earlier years of the airline and TAA, Australian Airlines and Ansett. This kit will replace the Minicraft kit I built many years ago. There is no comparison between the Minicraft offering and this Authentic Airliners version. Even the replacement nose on the Minicraft kit doesn’t get it close enough. The AA kit is spot on. But that is what you are paying for. It’s a real gem. I nearly didn’t build this kit as I am not comfortable that my skills are yet at the standard required for such a top end kit but I am ok with how this built went. I now feel a little more confident to finally start the AA 727’s that I have been putting off for over 10 years. I’m already part way building the CRM 727 in Australian Airlines. The 707 kit goes together well with minimal sanding and putty. I used Hawkeye Decals but painted the cheat-lines as I thought it would look better around the nose and tail curves. I built a B747 in the same scheme at the same time thinking that it would be clever and efficient to prepare and paint both kits along the way. Never again …it was far too distracting and the Lady of the house was quite vocal 🧐😬 at times with 2 kits spread out like a production line. I used Authentic Airliners detail decals along with the cockpit and cabin. The vortex generator decal from them is also great. Thanks for viewing.🙏
  4. I am a late starter for the GB as I could not decide on my build. So here it is The box contains two kits, one part started and the other untouched, I may do both if I have the space. As you can see I have decals for both QANTAS and the RAAF. I also have another QANTAS sheet for the later ochre cheatline scheme which I am tending towards.
  5. Just finished this one up as part of the KUTA GB, it is the Revell kit built OOB with decals from Hawkeye Models Australia for a QANTAS A330-300
  6. I will be joining Tim by building a Lancastrian operated by QANTAS. I am using an original tool Airfix kit which will require a bit more work than Tim's. I am also using a Jen's Bits conversion and decals from Hawkeye Models Australia. Pictures of the kit and conversion to follow.
  7. I had this one haunting the shelf of doom for some time and decided to get it finished. It is the Revell FW-200B in 1/72. Far from perfect with a lot of self induced paint issues I couldn't decide on a scheme until last week, so here it is, and you may have guessed a bit of a What-If
  8. Hello folks, anyone planning decals for the new Qantas retro scheme? Looks great. http://www.airliners.net/photo/Qantas/Boeing-737-838/2733726/L/ Looking at you Ray... (please) Cheers, Andrew
  9. All, Every now and again I go back to the DK Decals main website and check (in hope) that new decals are on the way. I can happily announce that two new Catalina decals sheets are being produced, however as yet the decal sheet and instruction lay-out are yet to be fully published. Two of Qantas' famous "Double Sunrise" Cats are included on 72020, which having worked for the airline for over 27 years I'm am truly excited.. http://dkdecals.cz/ Thanks Franta - nice one my friend. Cheers .. Dave.
  10. I started this conversion some time ago (before the Revell kit was announced and released) i spent a lot of time refinishing the fuselage as I kept stuffing it up. Decalling is almost finished, still need to sort out the engines paint wise and add the gear. The decals are from Hawkeye Models, sheet designed by Scott G on a request from me. The tail kangaroos are from their A380 sheet and fit quite well. They just need the tip of the tail trimmed once the decals are dry. Quite happy with how this is turning out Just spent about 40 mins trying to lineup the nose cargo door decals Aarrrggghhhh! Oh that will have to do....
  11. Qantas 737-800's 1:144 Draw Decal One of the most attractive airline liveries of recent years has in my view been that applied to the Qantas fleet. The A380, 747, 767 and 737 all look very clean and uncluttered, with that big red fin flash and 'Roo making them instantly recognisable. Draw decal have released a set for the Revell 737-800 kit in their 'Digital Silk' range, covering most of the 738's that Qantas have used. The printing is, as always, razor sharp and neatly laid out on the sheet, on continuous carrier film. No fewer than 32 different fleet names and registrations are provided. A nice touch is the inclusion of two sets of Roo decals to apply one on top of the other and eliminate any chance of the underlying red paint showing through. The leading edges of the red have a thin gold pinstripe, the two lengths on the sheet being more than enough. Red areas for the winglets are also provided, but as the Revell kit has undersized winglets it is easier to paint them after correction. It is important to follow Draw's instructions. The constant carrier film requires that you need cut around each decal individually. Here is how my sheet looks after all the subjects have been removed with a no. 11 blade. It can then be dipped in water, and applied to the model as normal. After allowing 10 - 20 minutes for the decal to grip, a cloth dipped in hot water can be pressed over it to blend it in to the surface. I used a sheet of kitchen paper folded over many times, dipped in hot water from the kettle, being careful not to burn my fingers! The decals will the conform to any curvatures, and stick like limpets to the surface. As with all types of decals, a coat of Kleer/Future will seal them in. More info here Conclusion. Another lovely sheet from Draw, of a livery I have long wanted to have in my collection. Having now built and applied these to a Revell 737 I can confirm that they go on beautifully and make a lovely little model.(In Ready for Inspection) Review sample courtesy of
  12. Qantas 737-800 1:144 Draw Decal Another Revell 737-800 leaves my workbench, this time in the very attractive Qantas livery, courtesy of Draw Decals.Reviewed here Revell's 737-800 is well known by now, it needs the winglets extended as they are too short, and the engines are too flat on the bottom and require building up with Milliput and reprofiling. The intake rings need to be enlarged to fit this, and the passenger window line is too low, so you need to fill them and use decals. It sounds worse than it is, and this corrective work doesn't take that long. Alternatively there are resin engines & winglets avaialble from the aftermarket. The Qantas livery is one of my favourites, it is simple, clean and classy and thanks to Draw Decals I have been able to add one to my collection. I really enjoyed building this one, I had no problems at all, everything went like a dream, unlike some of my other current builds! Difficult to get a 'with something else' picture here. How about some of my other 737's with Draw Decals on? An 800 in Kalula, and a 900 in KLM; Thanks for looking John
