  1. This is the 1/350-scale MikroMir USS Growler, an early attempt by the US Navy to field a cruise missile submarine in the nuclear deterrence role. This is a styrene kit with a couple PE details. Detail is good, fit is satisfactory. A small but persistent amount of flash makes working with some of the finer pieces difficult. Base coats are Mr Color and Tamiya lacquers, following by an enamel pin wash and some weathering with oils. Fun little kit, but a little more involved than it looks! Thanks for taking a peak.
  2. After a recent run-in with Hobby Boss' RMS Olympic, this little 15-part kit was a delight to build. I had no idea that the Church of England had a side-line in submersibles: this little craft seems to have had a fairly safe, albeit short, career until it was lost whilst under tow off North Wales. The only modification I made was to glaze the four portholes with AK Water gel, and as it wasn't provided with a name plaque I made one up with Slater's 5mm letters.
  3. In a voice more common for someone who has absolutely no practice of singing properly: "Как фанеера наад Париижем..." (might delete this bit later) In other words I almost missed this GB but I've got just the kit for it too: Plywood. More specifically its second version Plywood-2. Want to know why plywood? Because it was the construction material of choice of course. Meet Lisichkin NIAI-1 "Plywood-2" NIAI-1 "Fanera-2" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NIAI_LK-1 Kit by Mikromir and as usual instructions are attached. This time the plan is to make it a little bit easier by detaching parts from sprues and not taking too long on construction phase. Starting tomorrow obviously.

  11. This Venom was delivered to the RAF in May 1955 and served its whole career with the RAF’s 2nd Tactical Air Force in Germany with number 11 squadron. Following the short-sighted Sandys defence cuts this and most German-based Venoms were withdrawn from service with unseemly haste by the end of 1957. The type soldiered on with the RAF in the Far East until the early 1960s, however. After a fiddly start to the cockpit and nose wheel bay, the kit actually became a joy to build once I realised the instructions are more for guidance rather than accuracy! A couple of the parts are misnumbered in the instructions too, including the tail boom halves. It’s worth dry-fitting all parts first as many of the tabs are too wide for their slots. However, apart from the tail boom joins under the wings, it didn’t really need much filler, fitting together quite well. The paint was all from rattle cans; gloss dark green, dark sea grey with PRU blue undersides and satin black tip tanks. Decals are all oob except I added a few extra stencils from a spare Vampire decal sheet. This is the photo I used for inspiration, from Roger Lindsay’s superb ‘Cold War Shield’ volume II. All comments and suggestions always welcome! 50s flypast.
  12. #1/2025 So, let´s start the new year. First one finished by my dad is this cute T-70M from Mikro Mir. Well, it isn´t Tamigawa but with some attention it turns out ok. Painted with a selfmixed 4BO, used some tools from the sparesbox because he kit ones were slightly too large for the fenders. Replaced the PE fender to hull struts with plastic stripes, easier to work with. Did some weatheirng with Tamiya and AK stuff. 13. Hi, This is my MikroMir Valiant with the Transport Wings conversion set. From the first time I saw a picture of that prototype (about 40 years ago), I loved that menacing look of it. I hope I can produce a good-looking model. Cheers, Stefan.

  22. This is the MikroMir 1/48 Junkers W.34hi built pretty much OOB but with the addition of the Metallic Details engine and details sets 3D printed. The kit is well detailed, corrugations are really well done. I didn't bother detailing the interior due to lack of references and the fact you wouldn't see anything anyway! Cockpit detail is minimal, although a 3D decal instrument panel is supplied. Canopy I wasn't too impressed with being a four piece assembly, I ended up slightly fogging part of it MikroMir do actually supply two sets of transparencies which unfortunately didn't help me!! Also supplied is a small sheet of photoetch details and sheet of masks (not all of which fit very well especially the fuselage windows). My biggest problem with this build were the decals, I should really have tried to paint the markings usual problem corrugations and decals!! Despite the use of plenty of decal softener the results were not satisfactory . I finished the option in the kit of a W34hi of FFS(C)16 in 1938, finish was overall RLM63 ( Real Colours).:- Cheers Andy
