Thanks to everybody who followed along during this slow build - I like to get my money's worth out of each kit and make it last!! A bit like playing golf - if I'd paid to play a round of golf I'd want to get good value and play as many strokes as possible! Anyway - thanks for looking in good people - your interest is greatly appreciated. This is from the 1/48 Revell Tornado GR.4 "Farewell" boxing, which contains all of the bits for a GR.1. Just choose the appropriate spine, leave off the under-chin FLIR, and retain both nose cannon. I wanted to arm the machine with Alarm missiles, just for something a bit different, but this limited the airframes I could model - as you can see I chose ZD746 AB "Alarm Belle." Aftermarket stuff included Kits World transfers - not much choice available for a 1/48 Gulf Tornado. The Alarms and Sidewinders are Brassin - lovely additions and far better than I deserve. Cockpit uses the Eduard Look set but the only parts actually used were the instrument panels - certainly better than I could paint. Seats are CMK, ladder is by LP models. Background additions are Flightpath. WIP is here. Anyway - enough prevarication - I suppose pictures are expected........ 97a by Dr. Quack, on Flickr 97c by Dr. Quack, on Flickr 98a by Dr. Quack, on Flickr 98b by Dr. Quack, on Flickr 99 by Dr. Quack, on Flickr 100 by Dr. Quack, on Flickr 101 by Dr. Quack, on Flickr 104 by Dr. Quack, on Flickr 106 by Dr. Quack, on Flickr 107 by Dr. Quack, on Flickr Thanks for taking the time to look - and thanks to everybody who followed the build in progress, and tolerated my ramblings. Please feel free to comment / advise / make suggestions - all comments and questions welcomed. Next problem is to decide what to build next.......help! I can't decide. Choice is all 1/48 - Italeri Hawk T1 (It has to be black!), Airfix Lightning F.6, Kinetic Sea Harrier FRS.1 or Airfix Canberra PR.9 That's the choice cos that's what I have in my stash. Maybe I'll have to let Colin decide for me. Best to all. Keep Calm and mangle plastic! Q

IIRC the 3rd TFW based at Clark AFB in the Philippines deployed 4 F-4Es to the Incirlik base in Turkey during the Desert Shield and Desert Storm operations. I am trying to build such a 1/72 grey F-4E from the Gulf War and three years ago the choice was simple - Hasegawa. But then the long-nosed F-4 from Fine Molds came out - the problem is that the USAF version box clearly anticipates: the early version. So Vietnam-period fit and no slats. Happily there are other boxings available, namely the: FP-37 F-4EJ FP-38 F-4EJ KAI FP-40 F-4EJ KAI 8 TFS 72737 F-4EJ 306th Sq. 72738 F-4EJ KAI TAC 1995 72838 F-4EJ KAI 2020 scheme 72937 F-4EJ 2021 scheme 72938 F-4EJ KAI Last Flight Which box should I buy so that it doesn't take 10 months to build the USAF F-4E from Gulf War. Or maybe stay with Hesegawa? Or the RoG? Cheers Michael

I’m a late starter now I’m finishing the Interceptor GB. I’ve got the Airfix 1/48 Frontline Fighters set with a F3 Tonka (does not look great and I just built the Italeri) and a Jaguar GR3. Not sure if I need to ‘dial back’ anything to make it a GR1? I need to decide on a subject and get some kits works decals. also need to get a couple of CBU-87s as it seems only 8 of the BL755 in the kit were dropped early on in the campaign ... I don’t have any uk 1000lb bombs or CRV7s... grabbed a bad pilot out of the Buccaneer kit which will have to do ... Got started on the pit - the kits fairly basic but I can see I’m gonna need to use filler and sanding sticks 🤣 I may paint the ALQ 101 ECM pod RAF Dark Green just to add a bit of variety ... seems ‘Diplomatic Service’ had both the green ecm pod and also dropped 4 x CBU87s over 2 sorties ...

... not the new one, sorry This is the 1989 version of Airfix Buccaneer in 1/72 painted in the Gulf War scheme. Spiced up with few extra parts - such as resin nose & tail, etch details in the cockpit & air brake. Making the airbrakes open up was bit fiddly as they clearly weren't meant to be displayed open. But I think I got it figured out eventually. Painted with Vallejo paints using brushes. Dirtying up using Tamiya panel liners & pigments. Model was bit on the more challenging side to build, it felt like older kit than -89. Most of the plastic was pretty soft & clunky but I'm pretty happy with the results. Hope you like it - feel free to comment & post constructive criticism.

Hot on the heels of my last post of a Gulf War 1 RAF Jaguar, here's my effort at a Tornado. I gather the 'Tonka' is a bit of a cherished {and semi-sacred?} aircraft on BritModeller, so I hope I did it justice! "Emma" is shown alongside her Op Granby friends - they remind me of watching Gulf War 1 on telly as a fascinated 14 year-old. The Tornado is out of the box, apart from the nose art decals, from Print Scale. I have to say the Print Scale decals were a bit flimsy, and less than satisfactory. If anyone wants the left over ones, drop me a line.... Rob

Here's my second Op Granby effort, following an RAF Buccaneer.... Out of the box, depicted as "Saddam Kicker" - hope you like! Next is a Revell 1/72 Tornado to complete my British Gulf War 1 trio... Rob
