  1. Hello all Finally got round to doing my 2nd ship and hopefully now that my hobby room has been restored post extension, it won't be that long before the next one is underway! May I present H.M.S Hood underway in the Denmark Straight, 24 May 1941. This is the Trumpeter 1/700 kit with a bit of spare photoetch thrown at it, along with some Starling Models crew figures and some metal barrels. Despite battling with the fit of the kit, i did enjoy it-even individually painting the deck planks and I definitely enjoyed making the sea again. I'm pleased with the way the bow spray came off. I'm thinking its going to be H.M.S Starling next, sitting pretty in Gladstone Dock. Anyway, on to the pics and thanks for looking. Graeme
  2. Hey guys, 2020 is here and it's time for a new project. This is the first step of my diorama called "Soviet Supplies", more on that soon in the diorama section of the forum. This particular build though is of Tamiya's brand new Panzerkampfwagen 38(t) Ausf.E/F in 1/35th scale. A useful and interesting overview of the vehicle history and characteristics is available on Tank Encyclopadia.com. https://tanks-encyclopedia.com/ww2/nazi_germany/Panzer-38T.php Here is the plan I always do before commencing a build. Kit: 1/35 Tamiya Panzerkampfwagen 38(t) Ausf.E/F - No. 35369 Aftermarket: None Vehicle: Nr.522, 1st Company (light), 1st Battalion, 27th Panzer-Regiment, 19th Panzer-Division Location/Time: Velikiye Luki, Russia, 17th July 1941 Markings: Decals in the box Finish: Produced in late 1940. Has been in combat for ~ a month. Extra spare tracks mounted on top of transmission cover. No damage of note. Marshy terrain around V.Luki, nice weather. Bit of a short one here since I did my research ages ago and have therefore forgotten most of it already. The build is already well underway so we'll pick up from here. Lower hull is completed and turret assembly about to start. Cheerio, Jack
  3. Evening all, Does anyone have a clear idea of what the paint scheme would have been on Upholder in her pomp please? I've seen/heard that green over green is possible, also blue over red or all over one shade of blue-grey. I would very much like to pop my little U-class in for the current Mediterranean GB but have never reached a conclusive answer on her appearance. Many thanks in advance for any thoughts!
  4. IIRC there were two periods when RAF fighters featured black port wing undersides - first lasted from April 1938 until early June 1940 and the second one from the end of November 1940 till April 1941. During the 1st period the starboard wing underside had to be white, while tailplanes and fuselages (although ordered to be divided black/white along the aircraft centreline) were sometimes left in silver or natural metal. During the second (brief) period only port wing had to be black - tailplanes, fuselage and s/board wing remained in Sky Type S. Of course the "black wing" scheme has been applied not only to the single-engined single seaters. Photos of Defiants, Blenheims and Whirlwinds with black port wing are widely known. But there are some pictures showing army co-operation types (Audax, Tomahawk) featuring black port wing. Is it possible that any Hurricanes, Blenheims or Audax with black port wing were still in frontline units during the early stage (up to May 1942) of the war against Japan? Cheers Michael
  5. After consulting the colour charts (http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/stuff_eng_colorcharts_uk.htm) I bought XF-61 for my dark green and XF-52 for the brown. when I airbrushed the green on it looked far to dark. Almost a Luftwaffe green. The closets I came to seeing such a dark green was on this Spitfire The green on this build seems more realistic http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=52316 Which matches I know screen resolutions and camera settings make a difference but if anyone has got some Tamiya XF-61 around I would be interested if they did a test. My disaster with plasti-kote mean I have had to stip my Spit down so before I respray I would be interested in hearing from others out there. I know colour has been a long raging topic and as many will point out weathering, paint pigment etc played a lot to do with the difereent shades of green. I think the Green was darker post 1941 when the Gray-Green scheme was introduced. This is given as the supposed proper colour? http://www.colorserver.net/showcolor.asp?fs=34079
