  1. Greetings Britmodellers! I had problems posting photos before... Let me know if you can see them now! I think its working now?! I just recently joined this forum, and have always admired and been inspired by the models you guys posted... So now its my turn... I have a large collection of kits (mostly 1/72) and just converted to 1/48 because I am getting too old for the tiny models... So I have built a few 1/48 kits since Christmas and basically am having a much better time of it with the larger scale. I built alot as a kid, but now really rejoining this excellent hobby again as an old man! I am learning how to weather and pre-shade by watching excellent build videos on youtube and trying it out on each model... The original Shangra La airplane was really clean so I did not apply exhaust or hard weathering... I just finished this model a few days ago and thought to post it... I built a 1/48 Tamiya P-51B straight from the box with the included kit pilot painted up to add some life to the model... I used Gunsie Mr. Color Olive Drab from the jar, and Neutral Grey I lightened about 5%... I still use my Paasche Single action H-airbrush with an H-1 Tip from the 1970's! I just started using the Mr. Color and really love it... It gives a very durable coating. The decals are aftermarket (so probably technically this is not straight from box, but its the only change) Life Like decals for Shangra La and also the sheet has a very tempting Man O' War P51D with cammo decals that I may also make... This is my first time in a Ready or inspection... Hope this worked! I had a problem that I found and think it should make photos visible!
  2. I have started my Hurricane in this scheme... Hope to finish it over the weekend... I am applying Dull Red codes as they were repainted per the documentation above... Thanks for all the help guys!
  3. Greetings Brits... Well i think I was able to figure out how to post a few photos finally... I still don't know why it finally worked, so let me know if you CAN or CAN'T see these... I think it had something to o with installing the 'googlephotos App' on my computer... So I will try and post this... This forum gave me a huge help on getting the right RAF Dark Green and I wanted to show the result here... This Tamiya new tool Spitfire in 1/48 with excellent Xtradecal Battle of Britain Decals... The pilot and harness are from the kit... This is an excellent kit and makes me look good! I highly recommend it! I am redoing the post... Can you see this? I want to express thanks to the guys on this forum who posted color photos and offered assistance to save this model. I just started using Mr. Color and it really is nice paint. However I grabbed the C23 Dark Green, dark earth and sky to do this model. I assumed these were all the right colors to use as they were all close to the same grouping of the color range in Mr Color (and it says 'RAF dark green' on the bottle)! It resulted in the green that is on the model to the right, and compared to the 1/72 Spit on the left (done 20 years ago) in Testors Model Master RAF colors, its clear that the C23 Mr Color is far too light... This was the contrast I got! Obviously the wrong RAF Dark Green (even though it says it on the bottle)... So thankfully it was recommended on this forum to try XF81 Tamiya Dark Green... And that saved the model... I replaced the mask, touched up the pre-shade, and painted the XF81. Thanks for the help Britmodellers! It looks like a proper spitfire now!
  4. Glad this is Visible... I will try and post the new Spitfire I just finished and see if that works...
  5. Glyn- Thanks very much for the reply... Is it the last two that are visible? Now I am trying to figure out what was different that time! Its a simple matter to paste in the URL, but there is something wrong in the way the URL that I must be getting...
  6. Can you guys see this picture? This was from a thumbnail in searching google for the picture and using THAT URL... But the URL and directlinks in google will not paste into brit modeller... trying another address... Can you see the image below? I can!

I am giving up. I have tried several photo sharing sites, pasted in the links every way possible and it never works. I pasted the link into the text above... But thats the closest I got. When I paste the photo links into the Britmodeller image link spot... the field just turns pink over the link I pasted in and it wont accept the photos... Can any one tell me what I am doing wrong? I have reread the hints on how to paste in photos... but it just doesnt work for me. Does this not work for shutterfly or googlephotos? BTW, I have no problem posting photos on my model train forum! I was able to get some up on the original post, but only I could see the photo! So I am giving up britmodeller... cant get it to work...
  8. That is magnificent! I really love your model and you did a wonderful job!
  9. ok... So I am not out of the woods yet on photos. I will follow this direction. I can see them fine... So I thought everyone could see them... Thanks for telling me... Chuck- Thanks for confirming the dark earth... Yes I did use the Mr Color number that is near the C23 RAF green... It looks good... just the C23 dark green is far too light... I will overspray some preshading and then XF81 thismorning and see how it looks....
  10. ok I thought to dig out my 1/72 Spitfire made with Model Master Testors paints about 20 years ago... The Green is more like the XF81... I should have checked earlier!
  11. Looks GREAT! I like it in the green... that is a nice scheme! I also did the Tamiya Ki61 1/48 and it really was a very enjoyable build!

  13. I got it to work! finally able to post pics! look out! ok... This is the Mr Color C-23 RAF Dark Green#2 over Mr Color Dark Earth... This has no contrast and obviously the wrong green color... The XF-81 Tamiya color is much darker green, and that looks to be what I should apply now...
  14. OK, Here is the Contrast with C23 Mr Color Dark Green... Yuk! I will try the Tamiya XF81 I think and try and save the model! Do you guys think this dark earth is too dark? ok, it still wont let me paste in a link to a photo I have up on shutterfly... I will keep trying. It just wont accept the link I paste into the forum...
  15. Wow Chuck! You are RIGHT! After spending all afternoon masking up the Spitfire, I just finished applying C23 to it... probably when you were typing this... There is NO CONTRAST with the dark earth and C23 and It looks terrible! Again I have not yet done the photo host but I will post it soon... Wish I had your comment sooner, but I want to share so others can see your wisdom... I have C330 on order, and its not hear yet, so was trying the colors I had... I am new to Mr Color, but the C23 says its RAF WW2. I was able to restore the one mask that I removed, so I have a shot to hit it with the XF81 now and maybe save this model... I noted the XF81 much darker than the C23, it was obviously the C23 was TOO LIGHT! Thanks alot for your help... BTW do you think the dark earth is too dark? Should I be using dark earth or light earth on a Spit Mk 1???
  16. Thanks Guys... Those color pics are stunning! I hope to post some pics soon, just finished a nice Tamiya P51B... Tried and failed to get pictures up yesterday... i will try again when the spit is painted! I noticed both Tamiya and Mr Color (Gunsie) call it out as Dark Green #2... They do say its RAF WW2. I have the Gunsie Mr Color BS641 on order,,, So that will be used for my Brit planes... Thanks very much for that. I have very good knowledge of RLM (German) colors, and that took 30 years of study! When I saw the 'Dark Green #2' it shocked me... I thought this Tamiya XF-81 I have may be mislabeled! Its very dark... like a RLM70 Black Green! Maybe its my florescent light in the basement... I will have to look outside in daylight... Thanks again for the great photos...
  17. Greetings Brits- I am working on a Tamiya Spitfire Mk1... Really nice kit. I am preparing for cammo and have found a HUGE difference between the Tamiya and Gunsie Mr Color for RAF Dark Green#2... I am not as familliar with the WW2 RAF colors as you, and I need your expert help in what is the best Dark Green#2... Mr Color #C23 Dark Green#2 is lighter... The Tamiya XF-81 Dark Green#2 is very dark Olive. These two colors look nothing alike. I need to learn how to share photos here, otherwise I would post what I found. Tamiya includes a color foldout in the kit and the Mr Color #C23 matches it well.. But I really need expert guidance on what Dark Green#2 you guys reccomend... Did the RAF have different Dark Greens? The name of this is Dark Green #2... Mr Color also has another RAF Dark green farther up the line at #C361 and that is called Dark Green BS641. They also have a #C330 Dark Green BS381C/641 which is also called out as RAF color. I am doing a Spit Mk1 so if the RAF changed Dark Greens during the war I am eager to learn. Thanks for your help... Bob I should have mentioned... I have the #C361 on order from Taiwan (it takes a while to get) and have the #C23 and XF81 on hand. Out Hobbyshops are closed for Covid19 so not likely to get any other colors choices... But really want to hear what you guys use...
  18. I am so glad I joined! For years I have seen posts and was aware of this site... I really appreciate the help... I think I will do LK-R or LK-? (as I just saw in the dogsbody link)... I have been scanning ebay for RAF 30" Dull Red Code decals... I did find a promask for them and may have to paint myself... I thing the dull red codes would look sharp on the intruder scheme and they are mentioned in the references posted above... The Intruder photos I do find seem to have sky or light grey codes... They dont seem to be the dull red. However I am still looking! I will post my progress on this build... Thanks! -Bob
  19. Thanks Graham- I think I will build LK-R as in the photo above... It has the Wing Tanks on it and in the Intruder scheme... The boxart link talks about the grey codes eventually being repainted to dull red... i think I will order some RAF code decals and do them in red... Thanks very much for all your help! -Bob
  20. Hi Troy... Thanks very much for this! ok, that's Night Intruder Scheme! Perfect... Now I am digging thru these photos and this is a big help! Thanks! Do you know if all of these Night Intruder's had the permanent Exterior Wing Tanks? I got resin ones already for my kit but the profile color diagrams don't show these wing tanks... Did the Wing tanks come into use after the Night Intruder Scheme on the Hurricane? I may just paint up LK-R... That would be great... Thanks very much!
