Photo of the Bretagne at anchor in 1915, we can clearly see this type of boat with the typical keel drop, but with 4 ports instead of 5, as I drew, and a fender on the bow. Looking at the picture of the Bretagne 2 days before she sank, I noticed this still different canoe with a 3 ports cabin with a different line on the water, more modern, normal for the time (1940): Addition of a deck girder between the two cabins: Drawing of the stairs and I stop here. The launch boat fleet is complete. I made a quick plan of the little 3,5 mts clinthed pram. The hull is 0,25 mm thick!

  7. The progress of the day: Drawings of the 2 cabins. It's not totally finished, I still have a floor and stairs to draw, plus some small details. I drew a vents, there may have been two (see photo), the front cabin houses the engine, these vents probably allowed the ventilation of the compartment and the air supply to the engine. It does not seem to have glass windows on the back cabin.
  8. I'm having fun with this " canot ". No plan and 2 pictures. It leaves some room to the imagination while respecting as much as possible the style of this kind of boat. It seems that the scheme does not correspond exactly to the canot in photos, some details of form are different, for the "plan" aft transom higher, break of the keel line on the front. This makes it nicer I think. The line of this canoe is relatively modern for the time, it probably foreshadows the shapes of the canoes of the 30s, 40s and 50s. I think that the name "Canot à pétrole" at the time includes all liquid fuels from the oil industry (petroleum etc..). Today it means rather crude oil in English. The battleships of the "Bretagne" class have diesel reserves on the storage platform of the boats to fill the tanks of the canoes. I haven't drawn them yet. I "dug" the hull. I still have to draw the 2 cabins.
  9. Well, it's not too bad for a draft. I'll see it tomorrow with some hindsight for some minor corrections. I'm quite happy with the result for a first one without couple plans. I still have to draw the deck, the front and back cabins. A real banana this launch boat, I had to draw curved "water lines" which are not curves anymore, but it works very well with Fusion, even better for smoothing, these lines being more perpendicular to the couples than the classic water lines.
  10. I'm still looking for plans of the 11 mts oil boat (3 on board), the admiral, the commander and the officers, it's the only plan I'm missing with the one of the small boat (or pram). I will have to improvise a plan myself for the launch and the pram. I have the profile, that's not bad. The small pram (3.5 mts) is used for anchoring and Bullivant nets, it is on a davit above the anchors on the roadstead.

  12. I have drawn a few, it's hard, but I need to improve my method. It wasn't perfect but it was enough for small scales.
  13. It's ready to be printed. I have done last modifications before. Very similar Canot Major on HMS Warrior, Portsmouth!
  14. Tks Zoran, Steve! Small but time-consuming advances, yesterday and today. The floor follows the ribs, that's special " Footbraces " run through the ship so that the rowers can pull on the oars more efficiently. The holes serving as oarlock for the oars, are plugged when sailing to avoid taking water in there when the ship heels. There is still some work to be done, foredeck, mizzen and mast roots etc... but the end of the design is not far off. Toulon, very interesting pictures, especially the last ones, where we see the housing for the oars, replaced later, by steel oars or wooden tolets. http://www.cnsl.fr/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/aviron.pdf Some pictures of canot major in Toulon. We can see the very specific, very short helm, because of the mizzen mast or "tape-cul". There had to be a system that the helmsman could apply enough force especially when sailing. I drew the grating holes bigger so it would print.

Tks Stuart! 😜 I had time tonight to find the right method with the drawing program to create fake/real frames in addition to the ones used for the hull drawing, without spending hours, given the number. With all the exposed ribs, it looks much better of course. It needs to be tweaked a bit. More tomorrow.
  16. Merci! The hull of this big 13 mts boat is almost finished. I'll see if I place the missing ribs or not, it's going to take some time, but it would be nicer and fairer. I'll be able to furnish the interior now.
  17. Youyou printed with 20 micron layers with Photon Ultra. Putting in place the canvas of the 13 mts boat, as I only have the plan of the 10 mts boat, I have very slightly lowered the vertical scale of the hull.
  18. This nice little boat is now finished, I simplified it a bit because of the size ( 25 mm long ), I'm going to print it now and go to the 13 mts one, there is only one, it is placed at the top on the port side on the platform, it has a special place because it is very long.
