I wonder if it was an engineering decision, rather than an inaccuracy:

 

 

The linkages have an arm that pulls the front of the visor forward and down when you lower the model's nose.

 

It's the diagonal arm on the bottom right of the picture above.  It connects to the bottom of the nose cone.

 

If the visor were shorter (i.e., accurate), you would need more force to pull the visor down and then snap the pins.

 

The visor doesn't move independently or in the same way as the real visor, so they've had to design a way of making it work:
