I wonder if it was an engineering decision, rather than an inaccuracy: The linkages have an arm that pulls the front of the visor forward and down when you lower the model's nose. It's the diagonal arm on the bottom right of the picture above. It connects to the bottom of the nose cone. If the visor were shorter (i.e., accurate), you would need more force to pull the visor down and then snap the pins.
