Jimbob1208 Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 HI, I always seem to have problems when trying to glue two painted parts together using Revel l Contacta Professional cement glue. The two parts appear to melt together and the paint and glue mix to form a stick gloop. For example in the picture below I have glued the airbrake flap on this aircraft model to the fuselage and you can see it has become a bit of a mess. How do I avoid this? Should I glue them in place before painting or am I using the wrong glue? Thanks
azureglo Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 You should clean off any paint from the surfaces to be glued: A scalpel and care is usually enough or I use liquid mask that I peel off after airbrushing. Contacta et al is actually a solvent that seeks to make a weld by melting the plastic's surface, if you put a layer of paint in its way, it will try and melt that first hence your gloop.
Black Knight Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 I concur with azureglo. or use superglue, on parts that wont be under stress, such as your airbrakes there.
