I picked up a couple of 3D printed Gonk droids off eBay the other day, cos I love Gonk droids. No idea why, I just do It's about the fourth figure I've painted now after a 30 year break, the other two being the B1 Battle Droids I painted the other day. I'll post up some pics of them shortly. I'm still learning the ropes, and painted this with an orange go-faster stripe just because I could, but I think it was a bit too thin, as it took too many coats and you can see brush-marks if you look closely I've still got his buddy to do, and I plan on doing him a different colour, and as you can see it's also going to be based somewhere like a star ship or base.

When I was a teen/young adult, I used to do a bit of figure painting of Warhammer 40K, back when they were still cast metal, and a bit iffy at times. I was looking at... was it Smiffy's thread? and found out about Star Wars Legion, the miniature game, and while I'm not all that interested in playing table-top games (you need friends for that, right?), I still quite like figures, and really like Star Wars, so I picked up a few boxes. This was the first one out of the gate, and I watched a few how-to videos, as it's 30+ years since I painted figures in most respects, with the exceptions of a couple of pilots. Sorastro was a good one to follow, so I gave it a look, and dove in after picking up a few pots of paint. Citadel Colour have changed a lot since I got my originals, which I can't find, so I had to start from scratch. more expense After much procrastination, I dove in and painted one using the new techniques and paints that have been developed in the meantime, diverging a little to put a few more highlights and things on the figure as I went along. I'm fairly pleased with how it came out, although it could be a lot better, so I'll move along and try to improve as I go along. They don't take all that long to paint, so I should be able to squeeze them in between reviews, sleeping and more sleeping, with a bit of eating thrown in for good measure and continued life. It still needs a matt varnish, but I'll wait until I have a few done before I put some in the airbrush. Here are a few pics, and please bear in mind they're only 40mm tall on a 27mm base: I've got a couple of B1 Battle Droids half-painted, so they're likely to be next.
