  1. Hello forum, I'm embarking on a modelling project and was looking at the Revell 1/96th scale Spanish Galleon (Revell H-367) and the current 1/96th scale Revell Man O'War (Revell 05429). However, they do not seem to be in scale with one another? Am I missing something here?
  2. Just done with this little 'un for the Hawker GB here on the forum and happy how it turned out for an ancient kit. The short build thread is here if you're so inclined but to recap: Kit: Esci 1/72 AV-8A Matador Build: Tamiya tape for seatbelts, opened the intake flaps but rest OOB. Paints: White from a rattle can. Light Gull Grey mixed from Revell Acrylics (yes, I do that!) and applied with hairy stick. Klear, Flory Models Wash and Satin varnish. Pencil for some of the panel lines. Decals: From the kit after two weeks in the window. And alongside an Italeri (ex Esci) Royal Navy Sea Harrier in Black 14 markings built a couple of years back. Really enjoyed it and might try to squeeze in another build in the Harrier family soon. Thanks for looking! Dermot
  3. Hello everyone, Time to make a start with my entry for the group build. A place holder for now; I sincerely hope it will become more, quickly. Either way, I'll finish it either now or later, as is my intention with all my BM WIP's. I have some other group build models on the go. I'm a little hesitant to push on with them all, as in the last 18 months or so, I've developed a liking for the airbrush method of painting my models. I've been unable to use the airbrush since late April/Early May of this year. This is simply due to a frustrating medical issue grounding me, almost all of the time, in the bedroom since then. Nevertheless, I've done work on them to the stage whereby I have to stop; that usually being main primer coat time. I'm going to go as far as I can with this one. I will use, most probably, LifeColor paints on the interior and details. Hopefully if and when I get to externals, I'll be 'vertical happy' for long enough to go into the office and use the old airbrush . Here's the box art of the kit I've chosen: I won't go into a history of the Dornier Wal here straight away, I'll bring information into the build little by little. That will also be the case regarding the use, place built and other details of the Do J 'Wal' (Whale) in Spanish and more specifically, Spanish Republican service. It's strange that many of the kits I buy/have in the stash are by Amodel. In the past (sometimes even now), they've been quite a challenge to build. When I returned to the hobby for the first time in around 2003, I bought quite a few Eastern European kits. I thought that was just how kits had become; short run, lots of clean up, strategy and filler needed. I had never had Tamigawa as a kid, so had no idea how easy it can all really be ! I do know better now. Yet those companies don't cater for my inter-war/early jets/Golden Age/lesser known Air Force and Spanish Civil War interests very well. Amodel and also Azur and all flavours of Special Hobby/MPM/FrroM etc have been my saviours in this area. AZ/KP and Heller amongst others are also helpful. I don't know how well this one will go together. It's the largest model, in terms of size and number of parts, that I've tackled since a KP Aero MB200 in 2004. I thoroughly enjoyed building that; spread it between other kits over around a 3 month period. Lets hope this goes the same way . There aren't that many sprue/runner shots of this one around, so why not put some on Britmodeller? That will be my next post. Give people an idea what's here. There are various boxings of the kit, I'm not sure if all have the same inside. I just took the photos and have set them to upload to Flickr. While that's happening; it's always nice to present photographs of the type being modelled. I have two of the exact OOB aircraft I will be making 'D-8'. I try very hard to stick to BM rules regarding copyrighted works; unfortunately both of those pictures are copyrighted. In line with a little background on the Wal in general; the type was somewhat groundbreaking and enabled a number of record attempts, pioneering flights. One was by Amundsen to attempt to fly to the North Pole. Yes, they landed on ice in flying boats! There's much more to the story. This Wal has different engines (a common theme), but is of similar basic outline: Meanwhile, here is one in Netherlands East Indies service: Both courtesy of Wikipedia. Just trying to build models is good for the bonce, I'm sure you'll agree. That's what I'm going to do . Thanks for popping in to have a look, hope to see you soon Best regards TonyT PS: I received a postcard from Percy today: He's enjoying the Literature Festival . T
  4. So I was in Westfield Shepherd's Bush and saw the modelzone corner in WH Smiths which I had forgotten was there! Needless to say I went in, had a look, and got the new tool AV8 which I had been intending to get around to building, being a big harrier fan. I liked the look of the Spanish scheme so ended up doing that. I used Tamiya XF-55 Deck Tan for the upper side and XF-2 Flat White for the underside. I brush painted using the thin paint-large brush-lots of coats method and I think it turned out OK. I went for a clean job to bring out the transfers which I thought were rather nice!
  5. Hey guys, after some fails this year (try and error building) I started to build the 1/32 Eduard Bf 109 E-1 Weekend Edition with Spanish Masks from Montex. There are some smaller mistakes I did (was a bit too fast in some points of the build) and I still have to learn how to handle and paint the canopy correctly because the Montex Mask left some touches at the Canopy. This learning phase should then lead into the build of a Tamiya A6M2 Zero in 32 scale. However (still not finished) if finished this will be the first model in about 13 years which I do complete. This is also a bit a quick & dirty build as I wanted mainly to train my airbrush skills for a one color-plane. So There are small gaps here and there and she may not be perfect build, but this was not my personal task for this baby. So I started last thursday with the build and here is what I did so far: 1. Fuselage Inside and Cockpit Elements primed with black and added RLM02 2. & 3. First time building HGW Fabric Seatbelts, took a while for the first belt but it is just great! 4. & 5. & 6. Main Cockpit parts in place (except upper instrument panel). Wash and dry-brush done as well as subtile chipping at some corners. I decided to not add any Instrument decals or so because the Eduard Instruments are very badly done so I don't wanted to invest some decals at it. The Pro-Packs do Include Photo-Etched Instruments. Also you may note that the Rudder-Pedals are missing - again PE Parts within the Pro-Packs so it is totally missing in the Weekend Editions of the 109's. 7. First try of handling those small parts in the pit. I "glued" them with Clear-Coat in the end. 8. & 9. Upper panel and Revi installed, as I said above, I decided to not use any decals / add-ons for the Instruments. 10. Base-Coat of white applied, pre-shading done and added the base colors for the markings. 11. & 12. Added the Montex Mask for the Insignia and the Fuselage Markings 13. & 14. Painting progress starts with some RLM02 to the Fuselage first and RLM65 to the underside 15. To get back the pre-shade over the markings I added another layer of white and pre-shades 16. Removing the second color masks and add yellow paint to the spanish insignias and red to the fuselage smybol 17. & 18. & 19. & 20. Mask removed - isn't this nice?! In the second image the daylight reveals that I can be happy this far 21. I'm also very much happy with the pre-shades 22. & 23. Masking of the sides for the black stripes 24. & 25. Black added and...voila! Mask seems to have been good 26. Current state of this morning. So all the main parts are now colored, I'll add the main landing gear as next step and lookout to work on an antenna for the 109 with EZ Lines. Then some of the stencis will be added (not all, as I didn't see any photo with every stencils in place - mostly only the basic 87 Octane Fuel and Medi-Kit Markings). Then a wash and some weathering will follow. Hope you like it
