Hi All, Any of you fly boys need somewhere to land? This will be my attempt for the group build, its a big one and i put my chances at completing it on time at slim but I'm going to try. As much as the kit is the Yorktown, I'm planning to build her as USS Franklin. From what i can tell there is essentially very little between them anyway and I think Big Ben deserves the spotlight as she was very lucky to survive the war, more on that later! The box: I bought the kit 2 years a go and have put a few bits together but its well under the 25% allowed. I'm a spreadsheet nerd so i keep track of my projects with completion %'s agasint components each with a weighted value, against the work I'm expecting i reckon she's about 4 or 5% done, The kit is early for Trumpeter and so the fit is um, .... interesting! Over the past couple of years I've got the hangar deck on and a bit of the hanger bulkheads, and sprayed it grey, An arch enemy on the hangar deck for scale, The hangar interior areas are completely devoid of any detail and will require a lot of work as I plan to open up the doors and lower two of the three lifts, lots of surgery is required and lots of making good there after, And that's where she's at, hasn't really moved forward in a long long time, To make things more interesting I'll be using the Pontos upgrade set as well! Aim for the skies I guess, Thanks for stopping by Sam

Having just acquired Trumpeter’s 1/350 U.S.S. Texas, I’m considering some aftermarket upgrades and came upon a description of the Pontos set and, as I am not a ship guy, I’m wondering if it’s worth spending nearly 3 times what I paid for the kit for what appears to be an extremely complicated (but extremely detailed) accessory that replaces much of the original plastic. Can similar results be achieved with a cheaper assortment of aftermarket items such as Eduard’s? The ship means a lot to me, and not just because I’m a native Texan or because of her historic significance. I visited the ship twice over 60 years ago when a junior high school student and have long wanted a detailed model. Also, a former college girlfriend was the lead Texas Parks Department historian for a past renovation, so there’s a great deal of sentiment involved in building a model that will do the ship justice.

Ssshh! Don't ell anyone I've snuck into the big boys playground Following in the large footsteps of @Gisbod https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235070094-revell-1144-flower-class-corvette-pontos-photo-update/ and @robgizlu https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235005424-revell-flower-class-corvette-1144/ OK secrets out, I'm going to attempt the Revell Corvette plus Pontos set in the N Atlantic with fairly heavy weathering So were looking at with Started the base using two sheets of Celutex and despite precautions it bent like a banana. Cuts and weights later it will do for a practise run..... All that and I still feel the need...... The front right hand corner is going to look a bit bare so I thought a swamped lifeboat will look good Sanding sealer when heated forms an adhesive Mk1 and I've even done some PE A part of my addled brain said it would be nice to do a kit for a change. Doh! There are probably 20 bits of plastic used from the kit, what was I thinking ?? Well I may have very little experience with PE but if when I get to the end ....... This could be the start of a long voyage Stay safe Kev
