I'd like to introduce my Galactica. Moebius, Paragrafix PE's, a few Shapeways parts, a lot of scratch, additional Greeblies and lights. Normally I build historical ship models out of materials like pear, boxwood or something like that 😛 but SciFy was always my 2nd passion and so I took a break from wood and learned to work a little plastic. The Galactica is my first "real" plastic model and my first airbrush, fiberglass, decals, etched parts experience. Thanks for watching, Dirk

Hi Everyone Welcome to my first build. This is to be more to be precise my first build of this type. I am currently doing the Eaglemoss Delorean and the Deagostini R2D2. These though do not require much modification and are partworks . I decided to do this model to generally learn the art form , so expect a lot of mess ups and experimentation . I am not the sensitive type so please feel free to Laugh and poke fun at what I am doing. Criticise as much as you want . However if you can also find it in your heart to give some constructive suggestions that would be fantastic. Please have fun. My intention is to learn the skills need edto do the 1/350 polar lights Trek Models. This is a practice as I would love to to do those to a very high standard. I gained a lot of inspiration from Smiffy's build of the same model I am doing. Very impressive work. Please don't expect work of that quantity from me at this stage . I am doing mine a little different. I do want panel lines on the model but painted on . so I an going to have to use the filler rough too . I will however try to make the best model I can . I am a Trekkie but I also love Star Wars and other franchises. So Welcome to my First Ever ' Non Partworks' Build

Aged TREK-heads (like myself) may recall the 1970's Lou Zocchi/GAMESCIENCE Star Trek gaming miniatures, issued in the oh-so-common 1/3788 scale. (These pieces were based on the famed designs of artist Franz Joseph Schnaubelt, from his Paramount-authorized 1975 publication Star Fleet Technical Manual: designs meant to retroactively 'flesh out' the Star Trek universe by providing additional Federation ship designs deriving from more-or-less logical (and clever) extensions of the posited technology. Though eventually declared 'non canon' by the 'official' franchise-holders. these designs remain fan-favorites to this day---frequently modeled and modified in a bewildering variety of refits, updates, and inspiredly-insane configurations.) Despite their tiny size, the Gamescience pieces were among the most detailed models of TREK ship issued up to that point---and they still hold up surprisingly well, detail-wise. I confess myself an unabashed Franz Joseph fan---I always particularly liked his designs for destroyers, scouts, and cargo tugs---and I had a modest collection of these pieces when they were new, painstakingly detail-painted and hand-lettered. Those originals long ago went to the 'big yard sale in the sky,' but a few years ago I discovered that not only were those pieces still available...but that a company called Mark's Models and Toys, through their Starfighter Decals line, did sets of decals specifically for them. I was hooked---again---and picked up a few of the ships, and some sets of the decals. Here's the recently-completed 'task group': First, the Constitution-class cruiser USS Lexington. (Even non-Star-Trek fans will recognize the familiar shape...the same as TOS's Enterprise....) Next the name-ship of the Saladin destroyer class...looking a bit hard-used and ready for a refit. And the slightly-fresher Hermes-class scout vessel USS Bridger---basically the same lines as the destroyers, but with lighter armament (a difference which is authentically replicated in the molding of the game-pieces): And last...the cargo tug Al Rashid, with its tandem load of cargo pods. "The Wingnut Wings Sopwith Camel having finally been released...Stardate 4329.7...the Fleet Transport Al Rashid conveys an emergency supply to the desperately kit-hungry, Tenax-breathing amphibian modelers of Eminiar XII...." And the 'penny' shots, just for reference. The decal sheets aren't entirely 'accurate' (so to speak...for fictional craft), but they were lovely to work with, and soooo much easier than trying to carve tiny hair-width strips of decal stock, or hand-lettering with a technical pen (even back when the vision was still something close to 20/20). All in all great fun, and a nice nostalgia trip. It's also whetted my appetite to break out one one of the larger-scale kits I have long had resting in the 'stash.' (Maybe it's time to take on the 22" 'cutaway'....) Hope you enjoy the shots.

Hi Everyone, In memory of Leonard Nimoy, 1931 to 2015. Here is the 2nd of my 4 submissions for this group build (3 of which are starships) : the Revell 1/600 USS Enterprise NCC-1701 from Star Trek The Original Series. Here is the boxart : Starship history : Due to remarkable technical advances, above all in transmission technology, the Starfleet decided on a comprehensive modernisation program across the entire fleet in the year 2236. On this new type of ship, the current technical developments were taken into account, and components such as warp nacelles and the primary hull were implemented into the standard series as the ships were built. The development of the Constitution Class began in 2236, the commissioning of the first models, amongst them the 288.6 m long U.S.S. Enterprise, took place in 2245. The new Class, consisting of 13 spaceships, was developed specifically for scientific investigations and research in unknown areas of the Galaxy. Diverse scientific laboratories were located in the saucer section which turned the Enterprise into a mobile research platform. In spite of this, the heavy cruiser was well-armed, as it and its crew of 430 people were alone way outside the Federation space during the missions - and in addition, as part of the United Federation of Planets, they were obliged to protect its sphere of influence against aggressors. During the 5-year mission starting in 2265 under the command of Captain James T. Kirk and First Officer Spock from the planet Vulcan, the Enterprise therefore explored strange new worlds , seeking out new life and new civilizations , and boldly going where no man has gone before . During this time they made many initial contacts, some involving armed conflict with alien species. Hi Everyone, As I like to have a starship project on the go and my Enterprise E build is almost complete, so I am preparing to start a muiltibuild of federation starships - The Original Series USS Enterprise NCC-1701 and the Star Trek Into Darkness USS Enterprise NCC-1701. I will be using the same Revell 371 - Light Grey paint that I used on the E-E project for both of these starships. I used Enamel paint for the Enterprise E, but will probably use Acrylic paint to speed up the drying time on these two. Anyway onto the sprue photos and kit descriptions. 04882 - 1:500 USS Enterprise NCC-1701 from Star Trek Into Darkness This kit includes the following features - Newly developed construction kit - Large scale, two-piece Saucer Section - Separate command bridge - Multi-part deflector and sensor - Large-scale, two-piece secondary hull - Multi-part nacelles with separate pylons - Many transparent parts, including Bussard collectors and navigation lights - Display stand - Kit suitable for the addition of lighting (equipment not included) - Detailed instructions with tips for painting - Extensive set of decals for the Enterprise When completed this kit will be 588 mm from bow to stern. It comprises 91 individual parts. 04880 - 1:500 USS Enterprise NCC-1701 from The Original Series (TOS) This kit includes the following features - Construction set in completely new form - Extensive, two-part saucer section - Separate command bridge - Multi-part deflector and sensor - Large, two-part secondary hull - Multi-part warp nacelles with separate pylons - Many transparent sections, including Bussard collectors and position lamps - Display stands - Clear building instructions with painting tips - Comprehensive transfers for the Enterprise, Potemkin and Constellation When completed this kit will be 481 mm from bow to stern and comprises 117 parts. Anyway I am posting these now because I will be getting the paint for them over the next couple of days. If anyone has any idea how many tins of paint I will need please let me know ?
