Hawk T1 ETPS progress. I am working on the color scheme as suggested, spray the white, spray the red then spray the blue. So far 2 out of 3. I am getting some bleed under masking where the panel lines are on the wings, see second pic. The red (Tamiya XF-7) seems a little dark, hoping it will improve with varnish later. This is turning into a practice aircraft with so many learning experiences, broke the canopy while masking

Hi All, My next project will be a little - ahem - unusual! I have not built a Beaufort for a good while, and this little cracker of an Airfix kit just does not wear out! I had thought of a Malta version wearing Mediterranean Blue, or perhaps a desert scheme, until scanning through colour schemes the top right scheme caught my eye (full disclosure - I have already built the scheme at bottom left!): As you may note, the scheme shows EK997, an aircraft used by A&AEE at Boscombe Down to test an....AIRBORNE FLAME THROWER!!!!!!! Interest fully piqued, I did some initial research, and found that the flamethrower used a 1500L fuel tank fitted in the torpedo bay, in order to assess its effectiveness for fighter defence. I then ran away and designed a tank based on that volume of fuel, and the very grainy video I found of the test run. Here's the first iteration of the tank in digital form: And 3D printed: On doing a little more research, I came across this fascinating video: https://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/1060021056 This video on the Imperial War Museum website shows the aircraft in flight, the flamethrower being fitted to the aircraft, and best of all a test run of the flamethrower (EDIT - the title also refers to the Aeroflame system for fire bombing, rather than fighter defence)! It also revealed that the design I had for the tank was completely incorrect, so I will now proceed to redesign it (I have taken a number of stills from the video to use for this purpose, which I will use in my subsequent posts). Other than the 3D printed tank, the build will be OOB, but it will make a nice addition to the growing Beaufort family (also, I have not seen this unusual prototype modelled before). This is a bit of a placeholder whilst I finish off my Spitfire F Mk.VIII, but I will progress the tank design straight off! Thanks for looking, Roger

This is far from being the perfect Sea Vixen kit but the options are limited until a better one comes along. I modified the nose and printed the serial numbers myself. The real aircraft is now at the FAA Museum Yeovilton and has been fitted with a standard nose. Thanks for looking. Steve

This is the Special Hobby Meteor T7 with an Aeroclub camera nose and home made decals for a test aircraft from the A&AEE Boscombe Down. The stripes on the intakes and belly tank seem to have been very short-lived as most photos don't show them - I bet they were as much fun to paint on the real thing as they were for me! 9 Steve

The Phantom FG.1 pre production airframe XT597 (currently for sale at Everett Aero) was used by the A&AEE from 'birth' until retirement. She conducted the sea trials on the USS Saratoga and later went on to clear weaponry and systems before squadron service. By 1982 she had acquired some FGR.2 outer wing panels, a Doppler 72 radar panel under the nose and an air of scruffiness about her in the pictures I can see. Having the Hasegawa 1:48 FG.1 kit and the extra correct nose for XT597 but no decals left me with a odd spare part until I got ahold of the RAM Models Early British Phantoms sheet. Having already built XT596 (currently at Yeovilton) from this set this seemed like a great opportunity. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234997445-phantom-f-4k-no2-xt596-royal-navy-a-aee/page-1 So, on to my build... Work in progress is here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235006034-phantom-fg1-148-hasegawa/page-1 The build is as accurate as I can make it, however I have added some artisitc licence. The tanks have Post Office red tips (This was a pure guess, but looks interesting) but are quite chipped and marked as by 1982 I figured the bulk of XT597's work would have been as a Tornado chase plane. For this reason I fitted an FGR.2 Strike camera in the port forward sparrow recess as it could have been used for taking film of the subject aircraft in flight. Here is a picture of the completed build, along with a picture of XT597 in her pre-rasberry ripple finish and the decal instructions...

As I usually have three or four (or more!) builds on the go at the same time I'd like to do this one as well as the Sperrin. Gerald Elliott (Sanger) kit in 1/72 with my own decals for a Boscombe Down based aircraft. The canopy is yellowed (not quite as yellow as the paper!) and has a lump in it so I may have to mould a new one, apart from that it looks like a fairly straightforward vacform build. Steve

Nice quick and easy build of the Special Hobby Sea Balliol as the aircraft on display at Cosford. I originally drew and printed my own decals to use on a Pegasus Balliol kit I had in the stash but left it there after getting this kit for about half price at a show last year. Painted with Halfords Nissan Silver and Xtracolor dayglo, with a matt varnish after decalling. Steve

Hi Has anyone any recent experience with decals from ZTS Plastyk Javelin kits. Considering getting one of these for the rear end to graft onto an Airfix FAW9 and the decals for the A&AEE Javelin http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181279497957?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648 The kit and decals can be seen here too http://www.model-making.eu/products/FAW-9-Gloster-Javelin.html If the decals are pants, i'll steer clear Cheers for any advice Chris
