  1. Hi, After getting the PE bug I’m still learning different methods of attaching parts to a kit. I have come up against something I have not done before and that is getting the right look when attaching PE panels to the external surfaces of a model. Just glueing them on doesn’t look right as the panels are raised. I’ve read somewhere about using a soldering iron to heat the PE so it sinks in to the plastic but can’t find any info. what methods do you guys use? any guidance, tips or info pointers greatly appreciated Kev
  2. When I redecorated my “modelling” room I convinced the mrs to let me put down a very light coloured vinyl floor covering... less hoovering. Coupled with the bright light method mentioned above the carpet monster is more docile
  3. I enjoyed the tamiya corsair kit, yours looks really good. Love the cockpit detail
  4. Hi all, My attempt at the tamiya corsair. this time used a resin cockpit detail and eduard photoetch for external and engine detailing. learnt a lot regarding the resin detail especially how brittle it can be when removing flash. A few things could have been better and maybe put some more effort into detail prep as i got caught out a few times with the pipe /conduit detail. It took a while to build but i like the look of the finished article so the time was worth it critiques welcome Thanks Kev pics below
  5. Thanks all for clearing that up, it seemed a little strange but being a usual email updat from Hannants the thought did cross my mind " Eduard ..... Finished, that can't be right. So I thought I would ask the well informed
  6. Have just had an email from Hannants saying that eduard has "finished" and there is no more after ther stock is depleted is all this true as I can only surmise from that eduard are indeed no more. Has any one any more details?
  7. Finally got some pics of the brassin cockpit, first time with a fully resin cockpit, I'm happy with it as a lot of it will be seen I couldn't quite get my head around the pipe work that the instruction say you can add. I think I need glasses for that https://flic.kr/p/BuLbu1 https://flic.kr/p/BWUuoR https://flic.kr/p/BuLdtG
  8. Found some time to start my tamiya 1/32 F4u-1a corsair build. I have decided to go with the Eduard brass in cockpit, eduard external details and brassin engine. It's my first time working with a lot of resin parts so hopefully learn a few more skills and pick up some tips. I have found the cockpit very "busy" indeed, a kit all in itself! Will post some pics when I have the cockpit all painted. Kev
  9. Absolutely fantastic, got any pics of what the lighting effects look like. Top job on both
  10. Hi all, Here is my 1/24 typhoon build, it has taken me around 8 months to build and there are a few things I wish I had done differently. This is my first large scale build since I was a kid and I have enjoyed it immensely. There are a few after market details added namely the wheels, flaps, cannons, decals and some cockpit detail. I got the profimodeler hvar rocket set and have struggled a bit with the rocket hangers so much so that I have decided to leave them off for the time being.. Here a few pics https://www.flickr.com/photos/kevinr_101/16558557738/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/kevinr_101/16538845237/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/kevinr_101/16538847917/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/kevinr_101/16744924601/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/kevinr_101/16746102125/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/kevinr_101/16123792464/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/kevinr_101/16720202876/
  11. Hi all, for anyone who decides to buy the eduard 1/24 flaps for the typhoon just a little note for you. On the set I bought the o/b flap ribs have unetched ends in a few of the ribs so you are unable to insert the stiffening 2mm dia rod all the way through. I am at present waiting for a replacement set from eduard so don't know how long that will be, soon I hope as they the last bits to go on. The I/b pair were fine and are well detailed. One thing I wish I had waited for was the correct pe/resin set of hvar rockets and rails for the typhoon, the profimodeler ones (pylon) are for a different a/c type although the rockets are ok for the typhoon. Will post some more pics in the next couple of days. Kevin
  12. Hi all, Almost finished, doing the ammunition panels and hopefully will be added before Xmas. I have the rockets and rails to finish and the eduard flaps to fold up, paint and fit. I used the eagle cal decals and I am impressed, they settled lovely and quite pleased with the result. I have posted my progress below. https://www.flickr.com/photos/kevinr_101/15901493490/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/kevinr_101/16062972026/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/kevinr_101/16086850151/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/kevinr_101/16088064932/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/kevinr_101/15466462634/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/kevinr_101/15902677649/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/kevinr_101/15903015577/
  13. Hi all, Finally have it on its wheels albeit temporarily, still lots if detail to add and some exterior painting mainly the yellow l/e stripes. So far pleased with the progress, invasion stripes were fiddly to paint and got a little overspray in a few places, a bit of touch up and weathering should take care of that. Have got hold of the eduard flaps and once the exhaust stubs are in and the leading edges are painted that will be my next job. Someone has said when building this kit that you would go through a lot of masking tape, they weren't kidding!! Below some links of my progress thus far. https://www.flickr.com/photos/kevinr_101/15951356936/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/kevinr_101/15791386377/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/kevinr_101/15789826020/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/kevinr_101/15951354086/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/kevinr_101/15357490923/
