tinleeds Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 My first model in 1/48 scale. ARII Mustang P-51D. Used Revell aquacolor paint, Some tubes to gun imitation and decals from IPMS forum bank. Any comments are welcome 1
Doug Rogers Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 That look pretty nice, how was the build? The detail doesn't look bad for an older kit.
tinleeds Posted October 19, 2010 Author Posted October 19, 2010 The model is sufficient is simple in assemblage and hasn't demanded a lot of work. Though I see that it was possible to make better. I will repeat that it is my first experience in 48 scale and model was trial. I'll try to do next model a bit better.
BasicModelling Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Nice to see a Wormingford Mustang, I only visited the old airfield a few days ago, as I live not too far way from it.. (about 7 miles). Got decals for another Wormingford Mustang I hope to do at some point, but the red decal strip puts me off, as it divides the olive drab top from the natural metal fuselage andf I don't think I'll be able to mask and pait it properly.. You did a great job of yours, and it looks like quite a nice kit too..
tinleeds Posted October 19, 2010 Author Posted October 19, 2010 (edited) This red line on the fuselage is painted. I did metal first, then masked and did olive then masked again and did red. It's not too dificulte. Just try and all be alright! Edited October 19, 2010 by tinleeds
dahut Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 IT looks great. That old Otaki/ARII kit has also been boxed by AMT. It was one fo their better ones and now I want to get another!

BasicModelling Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Thank you.. I think I'd be able to manage that.. A great tip.. just didn't think of painting it myself as I was focused on using the decal ..... Oh, one more thing.. What paint did you use for the spinner?? It seems like you matched the checker pattern (decal?) very well.. that is another problem I need to solve, before I can get going!!
tinleeds Posted October 20, 2010 Author Posted October 20, 2010 (edited) I found for myself to "welding" decals by using my missis "Nail polish remover" from local Tesco. When dacal dry a bit i cover it with nail remover just very carefully. and don't touch until fully dry. Edited October 20, 2010 by tinleeds

Ive found a sum total of one, costing more than the older ARII box. But, Im glad to know Airfix is kitting it up over there

Davec_24 Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Love that Mustang. One of the best colour schemes, I reckon; colourful but still definitely warlike!
