I'm posting this from a thread in AFV forum since it is related to paints.

This color recipes are for 1956 version of FS595 (not 595A) 34087. This color had been changed in future version of Federal Standard. The only correct color in FS is the one from 1956 version. I am lucky enough to have an original 1956 copy of FS, and I have a spectrophotometer so I can give you all the information about the color and mixes of the paints.

Tamiya Acrylics Recipe (VOLUME BASED)

34087
    Target: #585545, Mixture: #575443
        XF-1 Flat Black: 3 parts
        XF-3 Flat Yellow: 4 parts
        XF-7 Flat Red: 2 parts
   100x100100x100
    D65 (daylight) DE00: 0.47

Warning, this is a metameric match.

Warning 2: I have encountered different density XF-1's (wildly different). The density of the paints above in my bottles are:

    XF-1 Flat Black - 1.026 g/ml
    XF-3 Flat Yellow - 1.146 g/ml
    XF-7 Flat Red - 1.053 g/ml

Tamiya Lacquers (VOLUME BASED)

34087
    Target: #585545, Mixture: #5A5646
        LP-51 Pure Orange: 6 parts
        LP-34 Light Gray: 1 part
        LP-59 NATO Brown: 4 parts
        LP-68 Clear Blue: 5 parts
   100x100100x100
    D65 (daylight) DE00: 0.69

Warning: This is a metameric match.

Golden Fluid Acrylics (MASS BASED)

34087
    Target: #585545, Mixture: #585546
        Yellow Oxide: 5 parts
        Raw Umber: 15 parts
Phthalo Green (Yellow Shade): 1 part
   100x100100x100
    D65 (daylight) DE00: 0.24

This is a near perfect match. I highly recommend trying this one. It uses pigments likely to be available in WWII

Liquitex Basic Fluid (MASS BASED)

34087
    Target: #585545, Mixture: #575545
        Raw Sienna: 10 parts
        Ivory Black: 6 parts
        Turquoise Blue: 1 part
   100x100100x100
    D65 (daylight) DE00: 0.54

Raw data from spectrophotometer for 34087 chip, if anyone is interested (one can dream that some paint vendor may read it one day and do a spectral curve match, right?)
