BIG X
Howdy Folks - I have some quick questions to resin modellers if I may... Q: I have some resin panels from the sides of a truck which are badly warped. I believe the procedure is to plunge the parts into very hot water - but after that I'm stuck. How hot is hot? How long does it stay in the water? Will it go back to shape on it's own - or does it need twisting? Would you remove the casting block first - or leave it in place? Any advice would be gratefully received - thanks in advance - Steve
Graham Boak
1. hot to the touch but not so hot that it can't be handled as soon as removed. 2. not very long, or it will distort irretrievably 3. it will need handling and some forcing to get it into shape. If you are talking about flat panels then use of a flat piece of wood will help - the resin can be held/taped to the wood to hold it in place either before or after holding it in the water. If you need to repeat the exercise then once the correct shape is formed, placing it in cold water will stabilise the shape. 4. I'd remove the casting block as this is likely to resist your manipulation and has no value.
