As I was looking around to find some reference pictures for one of my ongoing projects namely Su-27M (T-10M 701, 703, 709 and 711) I have landed the Ken's Su-27IB conversion progress page. Then I decided to launch a parallel project for T-10V1 conversion using one of my Revell Su-27SM (I have 60+ pieces of it 🙂) and Italeri Su-34 (currently only 4 pieces in hand) kits. The main idea is to join Su-34 nose and Su-27 rest. Next I will add some pictures of my work in progress. Regards, Serkan

As I am building the latest iteration of the Sukhoi Su-34 - I thought I'd have a go at the earliest version - the T-10V1 Su-27IB. I originally thought of just grafting the original Su-27 tailboom onto the Italeri Su-34 kit - but the biggest problem I faced was filling in the mainwheel wells - they are huge on the Su-34 and cut into the intake sides - the whole area is totally different between the Su-27IB and production Su-34. So I have adopted the method that Sukhoi used - grafting the new side-by-side cockpit section front fuselage onto the rear of a tandem two-seat Su-27UB trainer...... Here's what I mean - the Italeri Su-34 is on the left, the Heller Su-27UB on the right - the blue tape shows where I am making the cuts.... Underside view showing the major difference in the main landing gear wells..... The Italeri Su-34 front end grafted onto the Heller Su-27UB rear end - note the discrepancy in the shape of the spines - fixable with generous applications of Milliput (I hope) Undersides ....... Now all I have to do is graft the Italeri wings onto the Heller fuselage (the Italeri wings are better), fix the intakes (the scallop for the well on the Heller intake is now correct for the Su-27IB - but the intake lower edges are too 'square' and lack the slot in the bottom)....... More later.. Ken

Finally finished - my Su-27IB conversion - combining the front end of an Italeri Su-34 mated to the back end of a Heller Su-27UB trainer to make the prototype Su-34.... (exactly what Sukhoi did! - grafting a new front end onto a Su-27UB) The WIP is here...... I wanted to make my 'Platypus' as it was displayed to the leaders of the CIS countries near Minsk, Belorussia in 1992.... fully tooled up with a full load of dummy weapons... Note the differences to the final production Su-34 - no fat tailboom, single main wheels, taller fins and metal radome. Underside view showing weapons..... I was trying to replicate this configuration as seen during the presentation to CIS leaders at Machulischi, near Minsk, Belarus..... This is what I ended up with..... Decals are from the stash - as are some of the weapons.... A few more images - including build photos - here. Ken
