I've had around 4 sets of digital calipers over the years, and each one has cost around £20 and barely lasted a couple of years, and not from misuse. This latest one has started switching off and on randomly recently, and is now refusing to zero, projecting random numbers on the LED screen instead when I press the button. It also has a habit of zeroing itself randomly while I'm using it (probably resetting itself) , which has almost caused a few inaccurate cuts lately, two this very evening. It is frustrating.
I keep buying similarly priced sets of calipers from the likes of Amazon, and this keeps happening, so I'm looking to break the circle of wasted money and the planet's resources, as every time I have to replace them, the old ones go to landfill, and a load of carbon dioxide and other waste is created in making me another one that's only going to last a few years. What can I get instead that I can rely on for years, is accurate, and doesn't cost the earth in both respects. I know I can buy a high quality instrument for £140+, but that seems a bit extreme for the amount of use they'll get, but I do need accuracy and reliability.
Whaddaya know, folks?
